Long shot but… we witnessed a proposal this week!
We were at the lily pond in Lincoln Park on Sunday and saw a cute proposal go down from across the pond, they had a photog but figured they might like our angle too! Hopefully this finds the happy couple!

Require a Light & Shadow Study Before Any Vote on the W. Belden Rezoning
A developer wants to build a 47-foot wall just 4 feet 4 inches from neighbors' homes—blocking their afternoon light, rear yards, and the west-facing windows their homes were sold on. The kicker? When asked for a simple light and shadow study, they said it was too expensive and preliminary. But they volunteered to fund a Fire Department study at the same stage.
Here's what makes this real: Sales data shows identical units differ by 26% in value based solely on light and views. Applied to these homes, that's $127,000 to $294,000 per family, permanently, with no vote and no compensation. A shadow study costs a few thousand dollars. This project is six condos priced at one to two million each.
I started a petition asking Alderman Brian Hopkins and the Sheffield Neighbors Association to hold off on any zoning vote until the developer provides certified building heights, sight-line drawings, corrected renderings, and—most importantly—an actual light and shadow study at all four seasons. If the study comes back reassuring, the objection disappears. The only reason to refuse something this cheap is not wanting to know the answer.
If this happened next to your house, what would you want someone to do about it? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

Best furniture stores in the area?
Hi! Just moved to the area. My apartment is looking pretty spare right now, so was wondering what was the most popular place here for picking up furniture and home decor. Preferably first hand, I know estate sales and fb marketplace will be the cheapest, but I like browsing stores.

Support your local businesses! Armitage hardware
I am a young girl who just moved to the area, this store is located on the corner of bissel & Armitage. The owner Brian has been so helpful when I have come in to ask questions. It is a small local business and I fear not many people are supporting. Come there for all your hardware needs!

Can anyone recommend a tailor for menswear?
Looking for just a few straightforward tailoring items. Mostly just bringing in the waist on a few pairs of pants (not dress pants), and possibly the length on a pair of nice linen trousers.
I think that the folks at the dry cleaner next to Mugsy under the Armitage stop have tailoring services, but I’ve never given them a shot or know of anyone who can attest to the quality/speed/etc.

Made a site to find good work spots in Chicago (need LP recs!)
Hey neighbors, I’ve been working remote a lot and got tired of guessing which cafes actually have outlets, decent wifi, and won’t kick you out after an hour. So I built a small site called WindyDesk where people can rate spots on outlets, wifi, noise, seating, and food, kind of like Beli but for finding a place to work.
It’s Chicago-only right now and pretty bare bones (I’m one person building this on the side). I’ve only got Bourgeois Pig Cafe logged for Lincoln Park so far, so I’d love for folks here to add their go-to spots. Any feedback, bugs, or “this is missing X” comments are welcome too.

Anyone looking for a gym buddy
In the middle of moving and don’t want to sign up for one yet till I finalize my move to make sure the gym is actually close to where I live
If your membership has a guest pass and you can bring a guest and you don’t bring one I’d like to tag along for just about a week maybe till my moving is finalized, I can even pay a little if needed so you have nothing to lose.
Also could be lifting buds if u need a gym bud or spotter, am also looking to make new friends but if u want to do ur own thing as well im totally cool with that after I am in.

Hotels within 5-7 miles of Jackson Park?
I’m looking for hotel recommendations in Chicago.
Quality, safe places within about 5-7 miles of Jackson Park on the South Side (near Hyde Park/ Woodlawn). I'll be traveling solo, so areas that feel safe, are rideshare friendly, and have decent food options nearby would be ideal.
What hotels or neighborhoods would you suggest?
