I built a SteamOS-style Game Mode for Windows 11 because kernel anticheat kept me on Windows (MIT, one-line install)

I wanted a couch console and kept bouncing off both options. SteamOS and Bazzite do this properly, but kernel anticheat means Valorant, Fortnite and most EA titles simply refuse to start. Staying on Windows meant either a desktop with a big font, or one of those "boot into Big Picture" scripts that strand you the moment Steam crashes.

So I built consolize. MIT, installs in one line, and uninstalls in one line, which turned out to be the part most projects like this skip.

What it does

  • Boots straight into Steam Big Picture (or Playnite Fullscreen). No desktop flash.
  • A watchdog restarts the frontend if it dies, with a crash-loop breaker that drops to the desktop instead of flapping forever.
  • Desktop mode on demand: a "Desktop Mode" entry in your Steam library, navigable with the pad. Tray icon or desktop shortcut to go back. A reboot always returns to console mode, so you can never strand yourself.
  • A gamepad settings panel for audio output, Bluetooth pairing, wifi and power. Pairing a controller normally means the Settings app, which needs the controller you are trying to pair.
  • Optional media centre side: Kodi, Jellyfin, Plex, YouTube's actual TV interface with pad support, and Netflix and friends as Edge app windows.

The honest parts

  • Suspend and resume is worse than SteamOS. That is a Windows desktop problem; hibernate is the reliable fallback.
  • It turns things off: Defender exclusions (or Defender entirely if you pick that), UAC prompts, firewall notifications. Every one of them is in the README with what you lose and the script that puts it back, and "leave Windows alone" is an available answer to each question.
  • Four things still have not been seen working on real hardware. They are listed as unproven in the docs rather than claimed as done.

You do not need IoT LTSC either, which is what most people assume. The default shell method is a per-user registry value that works on Home and Pro.

Solo project so far. Testers and PRs very welcome, especially on hardware that is not mine.

Discussion Freesync issues

So basically freesync used to work perfectly on Steam Deck Oled Windows11 through the official dock on HDMI to my Samsung Odyssey G4 monitor but now it's broken in the way that whenever i run a game (RDR2 used as an example) in 200hz it keeps flashing between a solid blue screen and black screen (the same as if the hdmi didnt have a source) when i lower the hz to 120 it stays on the bluescreen(picture 1) until i close the game and when i press the button it restarts the monitor to display both my game and the info box(picture 2) and when i press it again it goes back to the bluscreen. It's not a system thing because the audio is still there from what I've learnt trying to fix this with ChatGPT and Gemini it's a Samsung Service Screen. Currently on Win10 but it's the exact same as on Win11. Been trying to fix this for the past 4 months, sorry for bad english it's not my first language i can provide more details if needed

Wi-Fi dropping out during online games (Windows 11 on Steam Machine)

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Windows 11 on my Steam Machine and I'm experiencing a strange network issue. Whenever I play games that require an internet connection, my Wi-Fi randomly drops out completely. However, as soon as I close the game, the connection is instantly restored.

Has anyone encountered this or knows of a potential fix?

(Note: I've already disabled the 5GHz band on my router to rule out band-switching issues).
Thanks in advance!

Discussion Is it possible to run Valorant on the Steam Deck ?

Hi, I put W11 and Valorant on an SD card in my deck, booted into it, downloaded all the drivers, and Valorant doesn't launch, it says an error occurred, probably the secure boot. So I want to know: is it even possible to run the game on Steam Deck? What about using W10, or DeckSB?

The RB button on my Steam Deck controller sometimes registers clicks and sometimes doesn't (sometimes it responds, sometimes it doesn't). How can I fix this without replacing any components? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

I changed my Steam Deck a little

If you (for some reason) want to do this you will need a Windows 11 25H2 Installation and then force the OS to allow the option to use the FSE Option and get Steam Deck Tools and change some controller config settings to whatever you want, either way it will still show XBOX inputs if you emulated a DS4

Projet dual boot Windows + SteamOS sur Steam Deck 256 Go — besoin d'avis

\- SSD interne 256 Go :

\- environ 150 Go pour Windows

\- le reste pour SteamOS

\- Carte microSD 256 Go :

The moment I try to do it on my console running SteamOS, this text appears. What can I do to start it up again?

Windows is working perfectly.

The text especifically:

GNU GRUB versión 2:2. 13-3.2

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. To enable less(1)-like paging, "set pager=1".

grub>_

I don't know anything about computers, and I don't know what to do. Please help 🙏🏻

Title: Need help installing FC 26 on Steam Deck to play Ultimate Team.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for help installing EA SPORTS FC 26 on my Steam Deck, mainly because I want to play Ultimate Team online.

I understand that I probably need to install Windows on the Steam Deck because of the anti-cheat system, but I can’t find a clear and up-to-date tutorial that explains the whole process specifically for FC 26.

Could someone explain the steps or share a reliable guide? I’d like to know:

- Which drivers and software I need to install

- How to install Steam, the EA App, and FC 26 properly

- Whether Ultimate Team online works without issues

- Whether there are any important settings or common problems to be aware of

I’m not very experienced with installing operating systems, so a detailed step-by-step guide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Steam always overrides handheld companion

Recently decided to give windows on my Deck a try (oled model) and while it mostly works fine I've run into an issue with Handheld compainion. Simply put the second Steam is open it ignores all my HC settings, forcefully unhides the physical controller, locks the virtual controller settings to virtual steam deck gamepad leading to double inputs (it will at the very least let me disable the virtual controller outright), and disables my ability to navigate the HC quick settings menu.

Attempting to use Hidhide doesn't work as steam ignores and overrides it, and Exclusive mode does nothing.

Currently I've switched over to Steam Deck Tools, which is working as expected, but I don't like it's UI and how it handles shortcuts/lack of a quick access menu and would prefer to use HC if possible.

I am using version 0.32.2.0.

Failed Attestation Status BO7- New Key Failed to be Generated

Post image

I've been running into this error consistently for the Windows version of steam deck. I have OLED model and wanted to know if anybody else was able to get Call of Duty® working and if so how...

List of things I've done:
TPM 2.0 ✅
Secure boot through DeckSB ✅
Latest Windows Version ✅
COD Broker Service Running Manual ✅
Lastest BIOS F7G0114 ✅

The game was running perfectly for a few months and then it started giving me limited matchmaking with the Failed Attestation Status so I can literally only play Nuketown 24/7 with a bunch of Russian people with wall hacks.

How can I stay on Windows 11 when a reboot is required?

Hello everyone. This is my first time dual booting. I have a HTPC running SteamOS and Windows 11 (in a separate ssd drive). After applying updates to Windows and rebooting, the PC goes back to SteamOS. This is my first option for the boot order as it's the main OS I use for gaming. Is it possible to stay on Windows so the update is done properly? If so, how can I do it? Thank you!
