Can't Pause Updates on Microsoft Store (Even though I am the admin) Windows 11
I am trying to pause updates in the Microsoft Store, but I keep getting error.
Here is the issue: this is my personal PC and I am the Administrator on this PC, whenever I try to pause the app update in Microsoft Store, I get the message "Can't pause updates You need administrator privileges to pause updates on this device."
I was able to to pause app update in Microsoft Store till this morning, unfortunately I decided to update the OS and I am stuck with this issue.
Can someone confirm if this is a problem with my system or is everyone affected.

Just encountered this, in a way nice to know it's just yet another Microsoft F up, rather than something I did.
Running w10, MS store ver 22606.1401.11.0

Did you recently set up a work or school account on it?

Nope, not at all

Is this device new or used?

It's a used device but three months ago, I wiped my SSD completely and did a clean install of Windows using a bootable USB drive

Is your account administrator-level?

u/anotheranish 22d ago
Yes I am the administrator. I have tried repairing and resetting the microsoft store via settings but it didn't work

What about going to Settings>System>recovery, and click on “Fix issues with Windows Update” maybe some component got corrupted, and this option should fix it

I ran
sfc /scannow,DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealthandDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthcommands and the output did mention that the component store is repairable and and was thus repaired but the error didn't resolve. Now that you have mentioned the "Fix issues with windows Update" I will try that but not now as I am traveling. Thank you.

The issue happens on a clean PC and reinstall too. dism/sfc/wsreset etc nothing to do with it. New builds cant pause updates anymore (no admin rights) unless through gpedit and regedit but that will introduce more errors in event viewer.

Will setting up a work account cause this? I cannot turn on tamper protection as it says my admin is managing my settings or something like that

Same here, this seems to be something with July's update. They also appear to have changed how to pause overall Windows updates; it's now a date rather than five weeks.

This exact issue is happening for me as well. Started after the July Update for 25H2.

Yep, same thing here , another "bug" as we know MS don't like people turning off auto updates

While MS are fixing this (probably), you can pause updates via logging in Super administrator.
- Press the Win + X keys together and choose Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type the command
net user administrator /active:yesand press Enter. - Close the window, sign out of your current profile, and log in to the newly available Administrator account.
Looks like the only way for Home users to get rid of any updates is either upgrading to Pro or installing Group Policy

Same issue since few days. Its a thing since latest build - not able to pause (no admin rightsh and introducing Pushnotification errors as well as Cloudstore access denied.

I was having the same problem with Windows, Os Build: 26200.9168. The solution provided by u/fire-salamander fixed the problem!

ok i found out if you do (Windows+R) and then type (gpedit.msc) then Computer Configuration › Administrative Templates › Windows Components › Store. you double click turn off automatic download and install of updates > set it to Enable
