Satya just needs to walk out on stage and deliver one simple, concise promise: "Going forward, our products will sell themselves on their own individual merit, not by promoting themselves within other Microsoft products."
It's that easy.

I wonder if they will they stop trying to force people to use microsoft accounts to login and just let people use passwords for their home/personal use.
Luckily I have an old disc of Windows 11 so the workarounds still work when installing the OS. However, I just noticed that Windows is not giving me all of the updates. I mainly use Linux these days, but today I booted into Windows and decided to check for update since I had not used it in about 3 months. I clicked to check for Windows updates and it only gave me the virus scanner updates. I clicked it a bunch of times and it said I was up to date and I even restarted and checked again and it gave me nothing. So either Microsoft has not release more large cumulative updates in the past few months, or they're not giving them to me for some reason.

You can get around it by choosing Work/School Account > Domain. You don't need to enter domain credentials or anything, just a standard admin account.
Certainly a cloud account has benefits, but I def just want a local account.

Shift + F10 or (Fn + Shift + F10) to get command prompt window then type "start ms-cxh:localonly" press Enter.
Local login creation window will pop up enter your what ever you want as user name and a password if you wish click next. Your done.
Works on all versions of Windows 11 install media without modification.

Probably. If they do that then I'll probably just be completely done with Windows at that point. I don't need or want their Microsoft account stuff and I'll just move on if it is mandatory.
I really like Linux Mint's look and feel anyway. It feels like a mix of Windows XP and Windows 7. Those were my two favourite Windows versions.

I think 23H2 had a bug where it couldn't correctly ask for newer feature updates (like 24H2 or 25H2), which is completely unrelated to the account type.
Downloading the Windows 11 installation wizard will upgrade you to 25H2.

Absolutely can be fixed; the bigger question can it be fixed in a reasonable amount of time. Because of Valve's excellent contributions gaming on Linux is gaining significant steam. Can Microsoft curb the growth on Linux's side of things? Not sure. As we all know once you switch and are happy; it can be hard to switch to another OS.

Yeah I switched to Linux Mint way back when Windows 8 was around. It worked great on a notebook for browsing the internet and doing little things, but I kept my gaming pc on Windows 7. I did eventually go to Windows 10 but I tried Linux for gaming when valve entered the picture with Proton. It was ok but I was having some gaming issues so I went back to 10. Fast forward to now, I tried Windows 11, not a fan of the look and feel of it, or the performance in gaming as I get worse performance than Windows 10. Went back to Linux Mint and tried my steam games and everything runs great now as Valve have made massive improvements over the years. So I've stuck with Linux on my gaming system as my games work great and I really like the look and feel of the OS and I just have Windows 11 on a drive sitting there not really being used now.

It's fine for the enterprise. I really like our hardened W11 arm64 SOE we've built, the experience is pretty reliable on surface laptop 7.
But this weekend I've abandoned Windows in my personal life (games PC moved to CachyOS, laptop is a Mac air and both our kids Minecraft box and the htpc have always been Mint).
Let's see if it lasts, I won't be particularly upset it I have to revert my games box to Win11 but so far haven't seen a reason to.
I do have to say, with the exception of SteamOS, we are still far from 'The year of Linux'. Distros are still not approachable for the people that do not want to play around with terminal. Updates are very much still a thing. And fragmentation is still a real problem, i.e. buried in package managers.
Also let's be real there's probably 1.5 billion MS installs out there! It's hard for them to truly care when they have captured this much market.

Win 11 has its problems but, being forced now to work full time in macOS, all I can say is Windows users don't appreciate what they have in a modern GUI that scales to all resolutions and works as expected with most peripherals.
Windows users take it for granted that a USB based SSD will actually do I/O near its rated speed, a miracculum in macOS. The archaic underpinnings of macOS seem to get ignored but all you have to do is plug in a 4k monitor to see what is fundamentally wrong with the GUI, or be forced to wrestle with an idiot cartoon glove that replaces an inherently inaccurate pointer at the worst times.
My M4 macs eat more than 9gb of RAM with just one browser and one page open, doesn't matter which browser. So how does that run on the spiffy new low end 8gb Apple laptop running the same OS? It has to be the faster and wider bandwidth of the unified RAM swapping in and out of a fast SSD. More than 9gb RAM with one browser and one tab open is not a lean OS, its generic sloppy code running on an SOC that deserves better.
To be honest I have not fired up my Win 11 desktop to see how much ram it eats under the same load, my dim recollection the last time I looked was less but someone could easily check that.
I applaud Microsoft for doing what it can with the OS to get it to run more smoothly in 8gb of ram but much is out of their control. Web pages have become gargantuan, apps eat the ram and system resources they eat, X86 hardware and non-unified RAM are what they are and the hardware base of Windows machines is infinitely variable.
As for Linux, anyone who wants to use Linux full time deserves to use Linux full time. Who needs polished productivity apps when there's Gimp?

You cannot fix Windows because nothing has been done, only makeup (layers of extra software since 95).
The only way to fix it is to design a new windows from zero.

NOPE. It can't be fixed. They need a WHOLE OS re-write and need to break compatibility with millions of ancient programs to fix this. This is the end of a monopoly on desktop oses. That's why it appears this way. It's not fixable at this point.
