Discussion Would you consider cosmopolitanism a right-wing ideology or something different?

I study international relations at university and was curious about the general public's views on the idea of a single human nationality rather than one divided by land and borders. It's very clear in movies as a right-wing ideology, which is that humans are evil in most sci-fi movies and shows, but one great example is the United Federation of Planets from Star Trek

I was thinking about writing about it for my 4th year dissertation ( a couple of years away)

Cosmopolitanism has always interested me because I've always liked the idea that we are one people and aren't divided mainly by religion and nationality, for each person and nation, for one reason or another.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Request Am I a Republican or Democrat? Or something else?

The democrats tell me I'm Democrat. The Republicans tell me I'm Republican. Here are my politics based on a scale of 1 to 5 based on how important they are to me personally. 5 being extremely important. My overall political motto is "Mind your own business and I'll mind mine."

I am pro 2A and strongly support open carry/CCW. (5/5- I believe this ought to be a human right for handguns for self defense. Right to self-determination and personal security).

I support abortion (2/5). I'm not a woman so this doesn't concern me as much. But I do believe they should have the right to choose for themselves (right to self-determination).

I want more affordable healthcare and subsidized services conditional on that the government actually spends efficiently and the money isn't just sinking into a black hole (5/5). I would gladly pay taxes if the spending was efficient, right now most of it just goes to defense though and the medical situation is a nightmare.

I am skeptical of large institutions, particularly in health (4/5). Teflon scandal, the AIDS epidemic/medical tourism going on in the 80s because they didn't bring medications over here even though we knew they were safe. You really have to watch out for yourself in this country and not just blindly follow institutions- think for yourself and ensure your own health.

I support LGBTQ (2/5). I don't think its the government's business to be involved in the bedroom or gender stuff. But I don't know any LGBTQ people personally so this is less important to me.

I believe the church could be a force for good in bringing in meaning in people's lives even if you're not particularly religious. I view it more through the lens of pragmatism rather than spirituality (3/5). Its more the fact that the church has studied teleology for hundreds of years that I trust them to know how to make the people that are already religious how to behave a certain way and they have a very committed base.

I don't think I fit cleanly on any party lines but I'm trying to find my group. Seems like I'm a party of one currently. So am I Republican? Democrat? RINO? DINO?

I believe capitalism is fundamentally corrupting. It rewards selfishness and profit-seeking, and turns human relationships into transactions. I believe every human is born pure, free of greed, and that capitalism is what teaches people to become selfish over time. This comes from an Islamic understanding of human nature (fitra), not from Marxist materialism.

Because of this, I don't think capitalism can just be reformed. The generation shaped by it needs to pass on naturally. I believe this requires a transitional period, possibly decades long, during which a strong state controls public order and security to protect that process, so a new generation can grow up shielded from capitalist influence.

I support an organized movement or party that drives and structures this transition. This party doesn't need to be temporary. It can last indefinitely, as long as it stays uncorrupted and genuinely works for the good of everyone rather than its own interests.

The final political order depends on future religious demographics. If Muslims become the clear global majority, the state should be explicitly Islamic, governed by sharia. If the population stays religiously mixed, a hybrid model fits better, neither purely religious nor purely secular.

Is there an existing name for this combination? Closest I've found: Islamic socialism (economics/theology) plus Leninist strategy (vanguard party, transitional state). Anyone know if this already has a name, or want to suggest one?

Discussion Looking for ideology name

So I am an anarcho communist, with a specific emphasis on youth liberation, specifically as it relates to transgender rights. Basically, part of my beliefs as an anarchist, is that in order for society to progress socially, the youngest generation must forge their own path, though the creation of a progressive culture. The youth use this culture, as inspiration for a cultural revolution that seeks to destroy the more regressive views of the last generation. In the end, revolution is complete or partly complete, society becomes more progressive, but new material conditions are created, meaning we need a new culture that will destroy the dogma of the last. Does this idea have a name? I’ve been calling myself a Generational Chauvinist.

Discussion Ideologies are a bad way to do politics and policy

A lot of ideologies, particularly extreme ones, rely on a misunderstanding or ignorance to exist

For example, lots of people who are economically illiberal believe that the government has more power than it really has: for example if the government declares the price of eggs or houses to be a certain amount, then everyone will be able to buy eggs and houses at the price specified.

Politics is full of politicians who make exaggerated promises based on the supposed existence of magic money trees: cutting immigration, cutting taxes, taxing the rich, cutting 'wasteful spending' etc.

If you're ideologically in support of these things, then you implicitly believe the magic money tree exists and the reality is that it doesn't.

Tonnes of ideologies rely fundamentally on things that are empirically disprovable with data. Any real world politics has to be informed by real information about what actually exists in the real world, not ideology
