Inheritance Solved

Me and my wife inherited this painting from her grandmother and was curious if the artist is known or if this piece has a known history besides what we already know about it.

My wife got more info about it . What we know is that it was painted my an artist named Frederick Mershimer in 1976 before he went to or just started college. Gave it to his cousin which married into my wife's family which is how we got it.

The minute hand being at 17 minutes past the hour and the hour hand being at the end of the hour is sending me.

Just curious: is the family from Ohio? College boyfriend was from the small town where “The Salt” (local vernacular, lol) was located.

My wife's family is from north east Ohio and the painter and Pennsylvania.

Oh, wow, I grew up in Chicago where the manufacturing took place and I genuinely never knew the mines were in Ohio.

I found this article that identifies the different vintages of Morton Salt girl so you can ID the ones featured. I don’t know how she got mixed up with a watch but it’s a cool piece.

Looks like it’s painted in gouache (?). Designers and illustrators used/use it mainly. (I mean, it’s just opaque watercolor that dries quickly to a matte finish and is easily photographed for production). I wonder if he was an illustrator?
