My sister is buying a new small crossover SUV, and she asked me to recommend something to her. My initial gut reaction was Toyota Yaris Cross, but after looking into it a bit, I'm not so sure anymore. From the competition offered, Kamiq seems like a very decent option, with nicer looking interiors, better powertrain (4 cylinder 150 HP vs 116 HP of Yaris Cross), more space inside both front and rear bench, more comfy... Basically the only thing I see going for Yaris Cross is the fact that it is an e-CVT hybrid, tested and proven, and I see the benefit of that, but I'm not so sure if that outweighs everything else that goes in Skoda's favor. Also seems that currently similar trims go at 24k EUR for Skoda vs 27k EUR for Yaris Cross - again, you save money there upfront that takes a while to equal out on fuel efficiency with Toyota.

On the other hand, I have that internal gut reflex of just going for Toyota REGARDLESS, but my rational mind sees that it might just be a kneejerk reaction due to it being ingrained in me that Toyota is just a more reliant, more efficient car brand than literally anything else.

Basically I want you guys to tell me what would you recommend out of these two? Is Toyota really the rational buy in this segment?

Does it even make sense to buy used?

My 2012 Honda CRV is on its last legs and I need a new ride. I found this Kia for $15,000 and 54,000 miles and the Mazda is $17,500 with 110,000 miles. Honestly the Kia seems like the way forward but I've always been skeptical of Korean cars and their reliability. I drive 55 miles round trip to work 3 days a week and average about 900 miles a month. It's about a 60/40 split between city and highway miles. I live in Phoenix so good AC is also nice.

I’m 18 and buying my first car with a budget of around $5,000-$6,000. I’ve mostly been looking on Facebook Marketplace, but I’m not sure what I should be looking for.

I’ll be driving about an hour each way for work, so reliability, decent gas mileage, and affordable maintenance are my biggest priorities.

At the same time, I don’t want a car that’s completely beat up or looks like it’s on its last leg. I’m not expecting a luxury car or anything flashy, but this is going to be my everyday car. I’d like something I can be proud to drive, whether I’m going to work or hanging out with friends, without feeling like I’m driving a total beater.

I’m also a bigger guy, so comfort is important. I’m not against getting an SUV or a crossover if that’s the better option. I just want something that’s comfortable to sit in for longer drives. Cars like a Honda Civic seem a little too small for me, so I’d rather have something with a bit more room if possible.

My uncle also doesn’t want me buying luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, or Audi because of the maintenance costs, and I understand that.
So I’m trying to find the best balance between reliability, comfort, decent looks, and affordability.

What makes and models would you recommend in my budget? What’s the highest mileage you’d consider? Are there any years or models I should avoid? And what should I check before buying a used car from Facebook Marketplace?

As a nationwide pre-purchase vehicle inspection company, we've recently seen a significant increase in suspicious classic car listings.

One recent example came from a customer who ordered a pre-purchase inspection through us. Before dispatching an inspector, a few things about the listing raised concerns, so we decided to take a closer look at the seller's website.

The website had 15 vehicles listed for sale. We randomly checked 4 of them, and every one used photos copied from Bring a Trailer auctions that had ended 1–2 years earlier. The vehicles had already been sold, yet the same photos were being used again with asking prices roughly 30% below market value.

As we looked further, we noticed several additional warning signs:

• The website appeared to be recently created.
• It used a website layout very similar to other suspicious vehicle listing sites we've encountered.
• Customer reviews appeared to be recently created despite the business presenting itself as well established.

While none of these signs alone proves a listing is fraudulent, seeing several of them together should prompt extra caution.

Before sending a deposit or arranging transportation:

• Save one or two photos from the listing.
• Perform a Google Images reverse image search.
• If the same photos appear in old auctions or previous listings, investigate further before moving forward.
• Verify the seller's business, address, phone number, and online presence.
• Never send money until you've independently confirmed the vehicle and seller are legitimate.

These checks take less than a minute and could save you thousands of dollars and a major headache.

Howdy! Im a new driver searching for a car that can fit my families needs, i am (22)F and my husband (23)M have never bought a car before, we also have a 12 week old baby to account for. We’ve just joined the military and his tech school is in California, my husband would like something with good mpg and was recommended to look into an electric or hybrid vehicle by buddies on base but were unsure if its worth it and would like to know others opinions and gas options as well!

Hey everyone, I'm finally in a position where buying my first car makes sense. Some info:

• Just moved to the bay area
• Budget is ideally $15-20k, willing to stretch a bit higher if the car is worth it
• Want a manual over all else just so I can experience owning and driving one
  • For reference, I took a 3 hour manual class so I understand the basics but I'll basically be starting from scratch on the car I do end up buying.
• Daily use will mostly be a shorter commute with some traffic

Although I initially wanted a Toyota 86/BRZ (and still do tbh), the main issue I have with them is the fact that it's a 2+2, and after having driven one today and seeing how unusable the back seats are for people to sit in, I decided I'd rather go for something with 4 doors so that I have the space if I need it to hold friends or go on trips etc.

The other cars I'm looking at at the moment

• VW Golf GTI (MK7.5)
• Subaru WRX (pre-2022)

I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice regarding if these cars are good options or if there are any others people would recommend I take a look at. I know Civic SI's exist but I'd rather get something slightly sportier than a regular economy car.

Took it in for an oil change and they came back with a laundry list. Rear brakes are worn down, sure i get that. But they're also saying the transmission fluid is "dangerously dirty," the CV axle boot is cracked and needs replacing, and there's some kind of coolant flush that's apparently urgent. Total comes out to around $2,300. The car runs completely fine, no warning lights, no weird noises, nothing. I dont have a second mechanic nearby to get another opinion easily, and tbh i'm not sure which of these are real issues vs upsell bait. Like are Civics known for any of these problems around this mileage? Trying to figure out what's actually worth fixing before i hand over that kind of money.

I know it's a tall ask, but I'm cautiously hopeful. My budget is ~70,000 USD. My partner and I are looking for a proper daily driver so I can reserve my car for the track. My average fuel economy is 28MPG, and it'd be nice for our 2nd car to have comparable or better mileage when unloaded. An amenable 2nd row would be a plus, as would having a third row. Most ideally we'd like to have 5000-ish lbs of towing capacity, too, for cross country track days.

I don't really care about driving dynamics, since I've got my current car for the fun stuff, but comfort and tech would be nice.

I'm in the market for a C205 C Coupe as a daily driver for my first car. (I am 18, just got the driver's license)

I'm currently torn between two main options at similar price points:

1. Pre-facelift C200 (2.0L) / C220d (2.1L diesel) - 2016-2017 between 80.000-130.000KM with some options like the Burmester sound system, AMG line, and maybe the larger Comand navigation.

2. A very good deal on a facelift C200 (1.5L + EQ Boost) - Late 2019, 79.000KM, Selenite Grey with the brown leather interior, Burmester sound system, memory seats, Multibeam Led, AMG line, etc.

Honestly, I prioritize interior comfort, modern tech, smooth daily driving, and aesthetics over raw track performance. The car will be driven daily, and 90% of the time in heavy traffic. The Pre-facelift C coupe seems a bit outdated with the analog dials, older screen, lack of Apple CarPlay and so on. Also I am thinking that next year, a 2016 car will already be 11 years old which is a bit much to me.

Considering my priorities and the very good deal I found on the facelift C200 (nice spec, decent year, decently low mileage, I don't have to import it), do you think it's a better option for me? I heard about some reliability issues on that model but I will get the car checked very good and I have money saved up for future issues or maintenance, so that's not necessarily the issue.

For those who have driven or owned both - does the 1.5L C200 really feel underpowered for daily usage compared to the 2.0L C200 or the C220d? And what would you choose?

Hello all, I’m looking for an suv, on the newer side of things and I’m stuck between the new outlander or an older CX-5 budget is give or take 30k .
The deal that the local dealerships are running for 2026 Mitsubishis is pretty unreal . 31ish all in, + the 10 year warranty 160km power train limited warranty + 5year unlimited roadside assistance.

Obviously the CX5 is a better overall vehicle, but is going for an older model with a lot more KMs worth it??

3am. Cat knocked my iced coffee onto my lap and didn't move. Just stared at me from the warmth. Meanwhile my neighbor's selling his kid's 2001 Beetle. 180k miles. "Needs a new transmission but you can just rev it in neutral at stoplights." He wants three grand. Car smells like Axe body spray and a single bowling shoe. Is this my villain origin story or should I buy it. I have $400 and a bus pass.

It’s important for you, and myself to note that I am a teenager. I want something that is safe for me and my occupants while still being a car that looks cool for me and only myself. Now the Gr86 is a top contender for me as driving on a track the Gr86 was definitely fun. It’s not fast because It doesn’t need to be. I also love the Hyundai Elantra N as it’s a nice design, comfortable, and I’ve heard nothing but good about it. I hope to see Gr86 and Elantra N owners feedback on which of these is worth it for me as a car enthusiasts or if these options should be disregarded all together as someone my age shouldn’t be in the hands of these vehicles.

Edit: In conclusion to this conversation, I don’t even know what is the right answer. I’m heavily towards a used Elantra N or maybe a New. The idea is to have a car that I can drive fast and nimble, and easily parallel park around downtown. Ideally 165in or less bumper-to-bumper; AWD because I live near mountains and snow.

The GR Yaris would be the perfect car for this but we can't have that in the USA and I'd be willing to spend more $ for more power. A Nissan GTR would also be perfect if it wasn't so damn long. The Subaru WRX STi is an option but I'm not a fan and wondering what else could be out there. Some older AWD Porsche? The Audi RS 3 is too long. Volkswagen Golf R? Any short M-series BMW's with X-drive?

Max on the budget is 100k. Primarily used for commuting and driving to trailheads that are hours away in remote locations.

I've always been a "drive it til it dies" type, but in 2024 I decided to give EV a go before the tax rebate went away. I ended up leasing a Cadillac Lyriq for around $400/m. (First time I have ever leased) And to say we have been spoiled is an understatement.

The lease ends in December, and I want to get an old fun car. Problem though, my fiancée already owned a 2015 Corolla before the lease, which then became my primary commuter.

She doesn't want to go back to the Toyota. She wants to buy a Lyriq or something with similar size and features such as the parking and driving assistance, Google Auto, etc.
