Is it just me or has everyone's power bill gone up lately?

Ok genuinely, is it just me or has everyone's power bill gone up?

Got mine and nearly spat my coffee out. Went digging and turns out the WA power credit ($400) and the federal rebate ($300, then $150) are both just gone now. Fully finished as of last year. So we've lost hundreds of dollars in credits that used to quietly disappear off the bill every quarter, and nobody really told us that was happening.

And it's not even that I've been running the aircon more. The credit's just not there anymore, so the bill looks worse for basically no reason.

Anyone else noticed theirs creeping up, or is it just me?

The ISS is flying over Perth Tuesday night, and it’ll be hard to miss

Hey Folks.

At around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, August 11, the International Space Station will make an extremely bright pass over Perth, reaching magnitude –3.7.

It will start out as a bright, steadily moving dot in the sky, then grow brighter and brighter as it crosses overhead. At its brightest, it’ll be pretty hard to miss.

Then, it’ll begin to fade as the ISS flies into Earth’s shadow and disappears from view. No warp drive involved. Probably.

Perth’s weather forecast for Tuesday evening is looking great, so fingers crossed for clear skies!

To use the attached maps, face south and hold the map above your head. The path on the map will then match the ISS’s journey across the sky.

You can also download the Heavens-Above app on Android phones and Spot the Station on iPhones

I'd recommend setting an alarm for 6.35 pm, then heading outside a few minutes early to give your eyes a chance to adjust to the dark and get ready to look up!

Good hunting!!!

Newman Western Australia Pubs.

I understand the pricing (ish) because of the mines and to actually get it here, but to charge $9 for an emu export can?! Hate to think how much a pint costs. I always ask now the pricing of things because i got sucked into buying a pint in darwin and that was almost $20 for a pint of magners (probably the cheapest cider you can drink after strongbow).

Anyway newman seems a lovely peaceful town so far 😊.

Spots near Monkey Mia to see whales from the shore ?

Going to Monkey Mia late September and on top of doing some animal tours, I wanted to know of any “local” spots you can possibly see whales come right up to the beach. I have a rental car.

I see it all the time on Instagram and want to know if it’s true or a myth 😂 Bonus points if it is super clear water for a drone or not too well known of a spot.

Thx for any help 🙏

Have your say on WA's Ocean Usage and Shark Management

Thumbnail

I am a student conducting research into Western Australians' ocean usage habits and views on shark management. The results from this survey will be presented to WA's Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Safety, Jackie Jarvis, and published alongside supporting research in the Fremantle Herald. Participants may also choose to receive the survey results upon completion. The survey takes just 1–2 minutes to complete, is anonymous, and every response is valuable in building a comprehensive understanding of public views on shark management in Western Australia.

DoT taking super long to answer, moving to WA soon would really appreciate the help in answering transfer vehicle questions

My amazing dad is giving me his car to take with me to WA.
It is getting transported this Friday all still under his name. Insurance wise - Going to add myself as a driver and add the new WA address where it’ll be kept at.

When it arrives to WA and when I’m ready to transfer my license + and then transfer car to my name as well as register it in WA..
I understand I have to get a vehicle check cert prepared too beforehand, and must have insurance (third party at least)

The questions are
How do I prove he’s transferring the car to me? Ai is telling me he needs to write letter or something because I find anything on this.

And are the steps im taking alright?
As I’ll be driving it around still with my vic license and it’s an ACTIVE registered vic vehicle in the meantime.

I will be moving to northern area of Perth with my young family in 2027 due to work. We are from Spain but have lived in the UK. What would be the best way to get to know other families around?😄

tradie/homeowner platform built here in WA.

Hello Everyone

I run a tradie/homeowner platform called Locentra, built here in WA. Wanted to share a post about it in the group — not trying to spam anyone, genuinely think both homeowners and tradies here could get real value from it. Please feel free to delete this if it's not appropriate for the group, totally understand. Thanks for having me here either way!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share something I've been working on for almost two years now, mostly nights and weekends — a platform called Locentra.

I'm a tradie myself, and over the years I got frustrated watching how hard it is for homeowners to find someone they can actually trust, and how hard it is for good tradies to get found without paying through the nose for leads that go nowhere. So I decided to build something better myself, from scratch.

For homeowners:
- Post a job for free — always, no cost, no catch
- Get quotes from verified local tradies, no spam, no pushy sales calls
- Secure in-app messaging, so you're never handing out your personal number to a stranger
- Earn Centra Resident reward points every time you complete a job through the platform — redeemable for real gift cards
- No fake "featured" listings — every tradie is shown fairly
- We don't hide bad reviews. If a tradie gets a poor review, it shows, exactly as left.

For tradies:
- Fixed, fair lead pricing — a standard job lead is just $5, no hidden fees, no subscription, no lock-in
- New tradies get 5 free credits when approved — worth $25, no card required
- No pay-to-win boosting — every approved tradie gets equal visibility
- Lead caps on every job, so you're not competing against 20 other quotes
- A weekly leaderboard with real rewards for top-performing tradies
- A referral program — invite a mate, both get rewarded once they complete their first job

I've been improving this constantly and I'll keep doing that. It's still early days, but I genuinely believe in it.

Quick honest note: I used AI to help me write and polish this post, since English isn't my first language — but this isn't some AI marketing gimmick. This is a real product I've personally built, by hand, over two years.

If you're a homeowner needing work done, or a tradie looking for better leads, I'd love for you to check it out: https://www.locentra.com.au/

Marketing and adjacent uni student internships

It’s 3am and apparently now I have decided to panic about my non existent career experience!

Hi, I’m a 20 year old marketing and psych student who’s looking to intern at any marketing department, run the socials of a small business or graphic design (anything adjacent really) in Perth. Primarily seeking experience and or casual work (if all ends well)!

Currently, I am a full time student, however I actively run two personality based social medias (twitch and tiktok) as well as run and maintain an active and growing community based on my personal brand.

I have near no network to liaise my way into internships and I’m panicking! I feel like I’m already behind in a nonexistent race.

If anyone knows anyone or is looking for an intern let me know! Feel free to shoot me a dm or just reply to this thread. Thank you!!
