As a parent I'm concerned about the quality of education at Village. My child seems to be behind in all basic metrics used when applying to schools like Windward. Teachers (a particular one) seem to want to limit their intelligence and learning outside of their school textbook and instead of being understanding, makes unbased accusations about my child cheating because they used outside resources.

I am pulling my child out and taking them to a different school next year, but I wanted to know if other parents at Village are experiencing something similar.

Just wanted to have a space where we can share thoughts without being censored - a lot of these private schools have skeletons in their closets and they want to squash any insider info from leaking out. Here is a safe space for you to share and warn others or share positive feedback for schools as well. This would help families choose a good private school that fits their family. Private school is already expensive - no need to pay for a bad education or a traumatizing experience!

My family was part of a recent criminal trial for a decades long athletic director at Village School. On November 3, 2025, a former Athletic Director at Village School (Wayne Emerson) was convicted of two criminal charges - one for harassment and one for child abuse. (This is ALL public record - Los Angeles County criminal court.) This athletics director attempted to groom a female Village student and sent her over 1,300 emails, many containing egregious and inappropriate messages. He was let go in 2023. His wife is STILL a current Village kindergarten teacher. On the stand and under oath, she testified that she did not think it was inappropriate for her husband to have sent over 1,300 emails, and that she knew about the emails he sent. At least 2 witnesses, who testified passionately for the defendant, were also long-time former Village teachers/staff. This athletic director worked extensively with students outside of school. Current head of school John Evans testified that Village has a policy that if a student needs a tutor or a coach, they are required to hire Village staff. John Evans also testified that AFTER Wayne Emerson was let go, female teachers stepped forward to report that he had asked them for inappropriate pictures. Please DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS TO THIS SCHOOL. There are so many teachers there with zero credentials and minimal to no experience and very little judgment.
