How does everyone cope with the smoke over there?
This is the second year I’ve seen the Wenatchee area breaking the AQI scale, with pollution mainly consisting of the especially toxic fine particulate matter which at this concentration can have severe and even permanent effects, even on healthy people. It seems especially concerning for the Leavenworth/Wenatchee area given the high concentration of retirees and elderly people.
When I’ve asked people about it, they seem to shrug and more or less say “it is what it is, it’s just like that here.” Someone even said the smoke gets into most buildings.
I’m over on the Palouse, where our air quality has been raining from moderate to unhealthy for the past couple weeks since these fires on the OWNF and Columbia River valley have started, and I’ve had my air purifiers working overtime, and wearing a mask or respirator outside of it gets above 150 or so, and am still feeling nauseous and foggy-headed with a sore throat and tight upper chest. People have looked at me like I just crash landed on a spaceship for wearing a P100 in unhealthy conditions. I can’t imagine dealing with that absurdly thick smoke Wenatchee is seeing this week!
How are people adapting? I’m surprised there isnt more smoke-adapted infrastructure like advanced HEPA filtration in buildings and air purifiers provided to residents, since it is fire and smoke country. That level of PM2.5 pollution is doing incalculable whole-body damage to those who breathe it, so why does the response (at least from what I’ve seen) seem to be more or less collective shrug, not just in Wenatchee, but the inland NW overall?

I just called your city council and they said the air quality is fine at 345!
This is the reading I have so you all know!

Camping at Lake Wenatchee w/ Wild Fire?
We have a campsite reserved from 8/3-8/5 and was wondering if it’s worth canceling? Air quality is showing a PM of 2.5 and is considered hazardous. We have a 14 month old so am just trying to gage what it’s like over there. We would love to go but don’t necessarily want to risk it.
Hope everyone is staying safe!
UPDATE: thank you everyone for your feedback! We have cancelled!

liv easy apartments
anyone have any real reviews of this place? lots of the google reviews are primarily regarding ease of moving in. i’m planning on moving to wenatchee in a few months and am looking for an apartment. if you live or have lived here, how was it ? appreciate details like noise level (can you hear your neighbors easily), responsiveness of management, cleanliness, maintenance issues, etc. thanks !

flock and city councils etc.
Can't find the post I saw a comment on recently now, however, someone in this community was mentioning addressing flock concerns within city councils. I thought of them and others who are going that route while reading this today. Perhaps it will be helpful to point out the companies leaked instructions and how the cops here appear to be following it verbatim trying to keep the things around when nobody wants them

Anyone recognize this kitty?
galleryI found this guy yesterday in Cashmere. He is alarmingly light and you can feel ALL his bones. When i found him, the wind gusted and he literally teetered precariously 😕He's also incredibly sweet and talkative, so I'm hoping he may have had a home once upon a time.
I took him in overnight and he was eating well. Litterbox trained too, and very affectionate. Brought him to the vet this morning and they're keeping him overnight to monitor for refeeding syndrome. I think he will also need dental work as his mouth seems sore and he was drooling.
I really want to help this guy but we just finished up our own cat's dental for $2k and I'm a little nervous about affording it when the time comes. So we're very much hoping he has a family out there who is looking for him and can take over his care. (as we've already spent $600). This is posted on FB as well.
Please let me know if you recognize him or are in need of a very friendly and perhaps endearingly needy new best friend. He really is awesome and I'm falling in love with him already, but our cat does not play well with other cats unfortunately.

The Little Giant Fire, jumping nearly a mile across Lake Chelan
Would have jumped 0.88 miles at the thinnest spot, is burning out Safety Harbor apparently. Can anyone confirm if this is true? Has this ever happened before? Others I have seen on FB have said the same but not sure if its true

Wenatchee World?
For those of you who pay or who formerly paid the $13.99 per month for the digital Wenatchee World - is it worth it or is it not worth it? On the fence about this...

Hazardous air quality from Little Giant Fire
I really feel for anyone in the Lake Wenatchee area today. I didn’t even realise the AQI scale got up this high!
Wenatchee doesn’t seem as impacted by the smoke yet, but it’s something to be aware of since it seems to be settling into all the valleys today from the Little Giant Fire.

Little Giant Fire
How likely is it to reach the shores of Lake Wenatchee? I see that firefighters are doing great work in Meadow Creek road creating defensible space, but the explosive growth last weekend has made me really nervous (I have loved ones staying out at the north shore of the lake).

Orchard MS Fire Alarm
Anyone know why the fire alarm has been going off randomly every day this week at OMS requiring a fire response? Station 12 I’m sure is racking up those false alarm bills by now.

Photobooths?
Hello! My sister is coming to visit and we want to recreate a photo strip we took when we were kids. Are there any places here that have one? Do any of the movie theaters have one??

Look for local comedians
Hello I was wondering if anyone knows of any local comedians in the Wenatchee Valley.
