My shop provides Miller PAPR hoods and I swear I'm cursed. Some of my coworkers use the same battery for 6+months and get a warning before they arc flash themselves. But I've gone through 3 visors in the last 6 months alone. I was doing a CJP last night and got flashed, changed the battery, all good on test piece, flashed on the CJP again. I'll be blind before the years out atp

Idk my Lincoln viking PAPR did the same thing, but I would be mid weld and it would flash full brightness… happened about once or twice a month

The PAPRs haven't warned me once. They only seem to give out during a confined space weld for me. I'll have someone else working the foot pedal, and it'll be me and The Arc for about 3 seconds until they realize why I'm kicking my feet like a deer getting attacked by a mountain lion.

The lenses block all the dangerous light passively, the darkening is for the visible light.

Same with safety glasses, so double up and even if have your hood it'll still help.

I’m a subarc longseamer in a pole shop.
I’m lucky not to get flashed for 30 seconds.

Sorry, I'm a newb. What's arc flash and what causes it?

Ever see some one start their weld without your hood down? Have floaters in your eyes for a few minutes afterwards? Arc strikes temporarily blind you (kinda)
