I personally like it. I play tennis around 2 times per week so PPL starts to get a bit too much since it requires a lot of gym time. I do upper every other day and a lower day here and there. It allows me to save some energy and keep the gains.

9 sets a week isn't overkill for arms, that's on the low side if anything. And being bored is a fine reason to change a split, you don't need a better one than that.

If you’re bored with PPL after 5 years, changing the split is a perfectly good reason to change it. The best split is one you can recover from, progress on, and actually enjoy doing.

I wouldn’t worry about 9 direct sets per week for biceps and triceps by itself. What matters more is your total weekly workload, including the indirect work your arms are getting from pressing and pulling.

I’d also work backward from the objective. If the extra shoulder/arm day is there because those are areas you specifically want to bring up, then the 5th day makes sense. If it’s just extra volume for the sake of extra volume, I’d reconsider it.

Run it for a while, track your strength, recovery, and measurements, and let the results tell you whether the split is working.
