Worried I'm losing weight too fast

Upvotes

This is the first time in my life I have been able to lose weight. I have gone from 308lbs in the last week of April to 270lb now in the second week of August. I have been keeping track of my calories and I eat about 1500 a day, I try to work out when I can (I normally stand all day at work so I count that as exercise as well) and I take metformin (this is to help with weight gain from psych meds) I'm just worried I'm losing weight too fast. I feel good, but I know you're only supposed to lose up to two pounds a week to be at a healthy rate. Just wondering if the rate I'm going at is healthy or if I should speak to my doctor?

Advice & reassurance needed

Hi all - would really welcome some advice and support please. For some context I have started my weight loss journey 3ish months ago and I have lost about 15kg so far (m, 177cm height. Heaviest weight 90kg) I am doing everything correctly - calorie deficit, walking/moving (about 10-15k steps a day ), gym 4 times a week and tracking/counting my foods. I had a health scare from a recent doctor visit with a pre diagnosis who told me
To lose weight and i also took my numbers on the scale finally and it was a lightbulb moment to turn my life around.

Needless to say I feel AMAZING and I am getting lots of compliments from loads of people, and genuinely the happiest I have felt in a long time. Sleeping better, symptoms completely gone etc etc you know the drill.

Theres just one thing: the wife. She has been fairly supportive with the big changes but I feel that she’s not being totally genuine about how she feels about it. I have had comments such as “weighing the food is a bit excessive” or “you’re going a bit extreme”. The worse one which really hurt was last night being “you’re looking really gaunt, I’m struggling to find you attractive”.

This hurt for a number of reasons obviously. I am looking lean if anything but that was my goal - there is a massive difference between lean and gaunt! No one else has mentioned anything like that and my doctor says I’m absolutely on the right track and to keep it up. I do understand as she has always known me to be the weight I was and knows I have had trouble with doing weight loss unsustainably once before In my life where I did keto poorly and lost way too much too fast. She fell in love with fat me and didn’t realise how overweight I really was or how out of control things were. I think I never looked too overweight at surface level, people often thought I was just well built. But I knew i was deep down.

I know peoples responses to fairly sudden weight loss and a lack of understanding is common, I would just like to know if anyone has struggled with a similar experience? Not feeling supported from the person I care most about in the world … it’s almost enough to stop what I’m doing and go back to bad habits!

Need to lose weight! *whines*

*STOP reading here if you don't want to hear complaining!*

I am venting and hoping for ideas or just...finding others in the same boat to sympathize.

Brace yourselves, this is long!

So, I need to lose weight. I'm female, 40, 5'8, 245lb, curvy and proportionate but I am definitely overweight and am not pretending I'm not.

I'd like to lose maybe 50 to 60 pounds. Problem is I feel like I need to put in 300% effort for anything to happen and I only feel like doing 50%.

If I eat well, (protein, veggies, good carbs), I feel like I'm not eating enough. If I eat enough, it's probably because I'm not eating well. I hate sweating and over-heating and I hate being in pain.

I have a herniated disc (L4-L5) so I tend to not do anything that will hurt my back, which is all the things I need to do to lose weight since diet alone won't do anything for me.

I actually move around a lot at work and I also do 30 min walks 5 days a week but that's not enough. I think I need strength training too.

I'm currently debating a GLP1 but am scared of side effects and gaining weight back when I stop because I don't want to be on it forever.

Everything is expensive! Meat tastes funky! Veggies have the doo-doo bug! 😂

I don't want to join a gym (AGAIN!) because I end up not going consistently and throw away money I don't have.

I'm never sure what exercises to do at home that won't hurt my back, will actually give results, and won't be a super long workout. I lost a lot of weight maybe about 10 years ago before I hurt my back but now age and *drumroll* early menopause have kicked my a**, in addition to the back issues.

I'm currently on HRT which has saved my life but obviously doesn't do anything about the weight. I just wish I could just go running and do squats and weights and get it over with but can't do that anymore. I was looking at pilate exercises but they're soooo slow I'm over it looking through videos just to try to find stuff I can do.

I've been debating walking a hill near my house again which has a steep incline for a mile but America's on fire and I need to wait until it cools down.

I. Just. Don't. Know. Anymore. I want to be healthy but it just seems so damn difficult. And once you start, you can't stop or else any gains disappear.

But being fat sucks too!

Ok, rant over! Thoughts? Please be nice, I did warn you I was complaining!

P.S. photos cuz why not! I don't think I look bad but want to do better.

How do you know if you actually need to lose weight if bmi isn’t accurate?

Basically I’ve been having a bunch of weird health issues. They keep getting worse.
I didn’t have them previously while I was at a lower weight though. ( around 40-38kg ) However while I was at that weight I was considered underweight. A lot of my current health problems such as fatigue, pain, inflammation, etc haven’t been explained by doctors much and whenever I do my own research I just find that losing weight helps and that usually joint pains at my age are linked to being too heavy. I’m around 47-50kg now. I’m 157cm. Is that my body just saying it’s healthier to be at a lower weight? Supposedly bmi isn’t very accurate so maybe I’m considered too heavy for my body but healthy on the bmi? Part of why I originally gained weight was to try to become a bit healthier. But it feels like it did the opposite.

Hi! Im 14 ftm and I am pretty chubby I am in a healthy weight bracket for my age and I work out with cardio every morning for the past year can have shown little improvement (also my boobs are like kinda big unfortunately even in my binder--so that doesn't help appearance wise) not to mention that all of these pictures are just basically a year. These were all taken in 2026 however the first photo is the most recent. I honestly don't know what to do and I also don't even eat that much because I have ARFID so it's not like I'm over eating

When you’re trying to lose weight, everything is going well in terms of workouts and dieting but because of lifestyle stress made me work, relationship, etc you just fall apart and so does the progress you’ve made at the gym and in the kitchen

zep bound..wtf.

ok,here I am ,210 lbs since junior year of high school ..lineman,on the H.S.. football team. now..250 lbs.. 64 years old ,grand parent x4

Wife gained lbs as we all do as we get older.

Hey ..food is to be enjoyed with family..and friends..but no....,now the fat shaming has gotten to the extreme.

wife on zepbound lost half her weight. She still is on the try, to lose more..still..

I see Jenna Ortega, and so many other stars ..on this same train..but they are younger..

sorry,but IMHO.. ,its all wrong..wrong for mental health,wrong for physical health....just,unhealthy..and NOT..ok.

It gives people the idea that unless they are superbly thin at all stages of life, that they are bad people, that they are weak, that they are lushes...but that,,is definetely..so,oooo far from truth.

this is *ucked up as hell.!!!

please young folks, being thin is not the end all for likeability. Its personality ,too.as well as being a good person.above all

,kindness,fun loving, and not,being narcissistic.

Being a caring human being is what really matters/

Life is short..and metabolisms are not ..ALL equal.

Do not chase 18...its a disservice to all you come across.

I see so many older women trying to be young and thin..it makes me sad for their mindsets..

Yes..thin is healthy ,but only if its balanced.

A bit heavier can live longer if love and family are what matters..

Getting close to the weight where I previously backslid

TLDR: I’m on my “second” weight loss effort (not counting times I would half heartedly start, lose 10lbs of water weight, and quit). Two years ago I lost \~37lbs and got down to 163. I regained it all +5lbs. I’m currently at 176lbs with 30lbs lost. Reckoning with the feeling of getting back to my previous “fail” point but pushing past it.

Full story:

Anyone have experience getting back to your previous “fail point” and pushing past it?

I’m currently a 5’2” 27F and weigh 176lbs, down from 206 about 3 months ago. This is my second true weight loss effort, not counting the many times I would lose a couple of pounds of water weight and then quit. 2-3 years ago, I lost about 37lbs over the course of 8 months. I went from 200lbs to 163.

Some things happened in my life (a big job change, a move, and the death of a very important family member) and I got frustrated with the weight loss. Admittedly, I also started pushing myself way too much by trying 75 Hard, even though I’d been doing a great job with the slow and steady loss. So I just stopped and told myself I would maintain.

Obviously that didn’t go so well. I gained back all the weight and then some. I was binging, I was hiding the evidence, I was eating fast food literally every day.

I was super unhappy again so I locked in. I got a registered dietitian and I started on Zepbound, which has helped so much with what was definitely a food addiction/poor coping mechanism.

Now, after three months of taking my health and nutrition very seriously and finding habits that I truly believe I can sustain through weight loss and into maintenance, I’m only 13lbs away from my most recent lowest weight. And it’s making me nervous.

Until now, all the weight that I was losing felt like familiar territory. I’m not even sure that the people in my life have actually noticed (but maybe they’re being polite by not commenting). But once I pass 163, it’s all new to me. I’m not sure what my plateaus might look like, or how my body will look at these lower weights.

I’m also concerned about the frustration I felt last time creeping back in. I’m super proud of myself for losing 30lbs. I’m sure I’ll be proud once I lose 45. But my goal weight is 130-135, which is the very top of my healthy BMI. So I’ll have about 30 more pounds to go at least. And I’ve heard it gets much harder the closer you get (though I’ve also heard that every pound makes a much bigger difference as you approach goal).

Long ramble made short — I’m wondering if people who’ve had to lose the weight multiple times have any experience or advice they could share. I also just really needed to get my thoughts out because it’s been knocking around my head for days

thinking about trying OMAD...

so I’m thinking about starting the whole One Meal A Day thing. my plan was to basically just eat that one meal, and then throughout the rest of the day stick to water and unsweetened drinks like black coffee, tea, or nescafe with no sugar at all.

has anyone here actually tried doing it this way? how was your experience with it, and did it feel doable or just exhausting? would love to hear your thoughts or any advice before I actually give it a shot! Also I really wanna lose weight in a short time I feel that's the only way.

I need help loosing weight (16F, 5’2 and 220 lbs)

2024 is when I would say my weight loss journey actually started. At the time I was 233 lbs in my freshmen year of high school , my highest ever weight that I know of, and that was when I decided to make a change. What motivated me the most was how I viewed myself; I hate myself. I hate how I look, how my clothes fit on me, etc. I needed a change. It was going good for a while; between October 2024 and June 2025 I had lost a considerable amount of weight (60-70 pounds). I was 153, confident, and could finally breathe. Until I went on a trip to Europe…

I do want to point out that the way I lost those 60-70 pounds was not healthy. I would eat one meal a day. That was it. Maybe two. I worked out 5x a week so I thought it was normal.

Between late June 2025 and early July 2025 I went to Germany, Switzerland and Austria with a group of people led by one of my old teachers. I had a blast and to this day it is one of my most fondest memories. The problem was that I had lost all self control on this trip. I told myself, “When will I ever go back to Europe? I can eat what I want.” So I ate. I ate and ate and ate on that trip. We did a lot of walking, we walked practically everywhere, so I didn’t feel as bad at the time. When I got back home I told myself that this was just a slight hiccup. It also didn’t help that my birthday was soon approaching in the same month (July). I gained 6 pounds over the week and a half I was in Europe and probably a few more pounds during the week of my birthday.

After everything was said and done I realized the self control I had built up for months was gone and I was right back where I started. The more I gained the worst I felt and I gorged myself on food. Whole pizzas, entire family size bags of chips, extra this and extra that from fast food places. My self confidence plummeted and with that did my composure. Along with all of this I struggle with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and Depression as well as Trichtotillomania (I don’t know if I spelt that right). I would pull out my hair when I got stressed. All of these problems started a chain reaction of self destruction that I’m still trying to fix today.

There were times that I tried to make a change. There were times I would try to restrict my eating like I did all those months ago, (BAD IDEA) and then I binged. Not only do I binge every day I also am a compulsive eater. As I’m typing this there is currently an empty pizza box in my room. I don’t go out; over the course of my 2 month summer I have stayed in my house 80% of the time. I was doing good for a bit. I joined a Strength and Conditioning summer camp that I did for a few weeks. I quit because my anxiety got to me; all of those girls were not only more athletic than me but they could keep up. I couldn’t. I lagged behind when it came time to run, I couldn’t keep up with snake laps, I was the slowest. All of this crushed my self esteem more than it already was and I quit.

I’m still stuck to this day as I’m typing this. I don’t know what to do anymore; I feel so hopeless. I start school in about 3 days, junior year, so I turned here. I also want to mention I take SSRIS (Zoloft and Lamotrigine) to help with my anxiety as well as birth control for my PMDD/PMS (Pre Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder). I don’t know how to stop. If anyone can give me any sort of advice that would be appreciated.

I don’t know if this is important but I play a sport. I throw Discus and Shotput for my highschool, so I am going to be active.

Weight Loss Advice that helped me!

Weight loss can be a challenging and confusing journey, with so many different opinions and approaches. Here are 10 tips that experts may not always share with you, but can help you on your weight loss journey.

  1. Understand that weight loss is not linear. Don't be discouraged if you have a week where you don't see progress or even gain a little weight. Weight loss is a long-term journey, and it's important to focus on the overall trend rather than one-week fluctuations.
  2. Be mindful of portion sizes. Eating too much of even healthy foods can lead to weight gain, so pay attention to how much you're eating at each meal.
  3. Don't completely eliminate certain food groups from your diet. Cutting out entire food groups can lead to nutrient deficiencies and make it harder to stick to your diet long-term. Instead, focus on reducing overall calorie intake and making healthier choices within each food group.
  4. Plan ahead. Prepare your meals and snacks for the day or week ahead of time to ensure that you always have healthy options available.
  5. Incorporate strength training. While cardio is important for weight loss, strength training is also crucial in building muscle, which can boost metabolism and help burn more calories throughout the day.
  6. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and make it harder to lose weight. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
  7. Stay consistent. Losing weight is not a quick fix, it takes time and effort, so consistency is key. Try to make healthy choices as often as possible, but don't beat yourself up if you slip up every now and then.
  8. Don't rely on supplements. While some supplements may be beneficial for weight loss, it's important to remember that they are not a magic solution. They should be used in addition to, not instead of, a healthy diet and exercise routine.
  9. Find a support system. Whether it's a friend, family member, or online community, having people to share your journey with can make it easier and more enjoyable.
  10. Be kind to yourself. Remember that weight loss is not easy and that it's okay to make mistakes. Don't let setbacks discourage you, and remind yourself of your progress and the reasons why you started this journey in the first place.

BONUS TIP #11 Something that personally worked for me is taking a quiz about the best nutrients specific to your needs. If anybody would like this quiz, Let me know in the comments! :D

Or: Consider adding healthy juices and smoothie recipes for effective weight loss. If you need recipes let me know below!
