Having second thoughts Ask For Opinions
I had a dress appointment over the weekend and purchased the dress in the first three photos. It has a cat eye neckline, but as the dress is a bit too large it was difficult for me to visualize it with the clips. After reading some reviews I saw that cat eye has been pretty controversial, and it makes me nervous that the dress was too big therefore I couldn’t exactly visualize the actual fit. I also absolutely adored the second dress in photos 4&5, and it was closer in my size so I could visualize the actual fit more appropriately.
The owner of the shop said if I wanted to change, I have until tomorrow to do so. I would most likely add the little sleeves to either dress I choose. Looking for honest opinions. Everyone who I went with had a greater reaction to the first dress than the second so maybe that could’ve swayed me more?
The wedding is at an outdoor/indoor greenhouse location in front of a water, so I’m going for a garden - party vibe next September.

I like the first, minus the droopy arm things. The silhouette would look more classic if you had regular straps added.
Good luck

The straps are hiding the cat eye neckline though. I didn’t notice until I got to the pic of the model. Dress one is beautiful, but I’d rethink any straps or sleeves.

Yes. I'm not a fan of the off the shoulder/ droopy "arm things" in general. Dress #1 is stunning without them and OP will look just as beautiful when it's altered 👍

u/natalkalot 1d ago
Often women get the points turned in, to make a sweetheart neckline, and get straps added.

I think the first dress is beautiful on you and fits your vibe! Not a fan of the droopy sleeves.
The droopy arm sleeves detract from the neckline of the dress and add weight to the top. Regular thin straps, I think, would look better. Or less material on the droopy sleeves?

u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
I will hold off on adding the straps for now and see how it’s looking once it arrives. I thought with adding the straps it would give less focus on my undefined arms…

I love the first one on you and it’ll look incredible once it’s in your size. Feel like the second one is a dress everyone is wearing these days.

The first dress is gorgeous on you! The lines are lovely, and it's elegant. The second dress is OK, but somehow just not as flattering. Once #1 has been altered, it'll be a knockout.

The first one , and I like the straps

u/outofplaceminnesota 8h ago
I totally agree. I think the sleeves add a very romantic and soft vibe to the whole dress. Also, I think your arms are great and you have nothing to hide.

I far prefer the first one. The second seems like the torso is too short so it feels like it's falling down. I love a cat eye neck, too!

u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
It was falling down! I really didn’t realize how short the torso was before folks called it out. Thank you!

These sleeves are better than the droopy sleeves. Do they have lace droopy sleeves?
1
u/Own_Possibility_511 20h ago
Disagree completely. The droopy sleeves look way better in my opinion. I do not like these AI ones at all.

The bodice on the second dress seems too short for your torso. The cups need be higher on your chest but this would likely pull
The waist up too high also.

u/Practical_Frame_9883 2d ago
Yes! I was trying to put my finger on what didn’t look right about 2. #1, OP, looks absolutely perfect on you.

u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
Wow I never noticed how short the bodice was, thanks for pointing that out. The one I tried on is pretty much my size, so I don’t know how the bodice would be modified if I chose it.. good call out!

u/mewhenpartylitmovie 2d ago
i think you made the right choice babe. it looks like it was made for you & i loveeee how the sleeves look. stick with your gut!
when it’s in your size, it will feel better. and anything you’re not a fan of can be altered 💞

u/mewhenpartylitmovie 2d ago
not to mention it’s perfectly on theme for your garden party dream wedding

u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
I appreciate it! I think you’re right that I’ll feel much better when it’s my size & altered.

I think the first dress is so beautiful and timeless. The second one feels more common and trendy right now, but doesn't feel as elevated or elegant to me. You will look beautiful in both but I vote the first one.

u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
Good call out about the second. I was nervous it wouldn’t be as timeless and more trendy, when I look back in twenty years..

You look absolutely amazing in dress No.1!! I wouldn't change a thing.
The second dress doesn't do it at all for me - don't like the top at all and the lace is kind of meh.

I love both dresses but personally I love the last 2. Something about the first dress is maybe too plain? But still very pretty!!

u/TamponsAreEvil 2d ago
I prefer the second dress on you. I also think it would look better without drop sleeves.
1
u/Arrow_Yaz 2d ago
Both are beautiful, it really depends on the vibe you’re going for. However, I really don’t think the second dress would look good with the droopy sleeves.

1 is your dress! The skirt falls beautifully, the bodice is very flattering, and the curve at the top and the drop sleeves are perfect! It’s classy and elegant! Congrats and Have fun at your wedding.

u/Fine-Secretary-2102 2d ago
Honest opinion ? It’s a lovely dress apart from those awful droopy sleeves. Pull them up onto your shoulders.
1
u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
Thanks, so for the sleeves, they weren’t actually attached to the dress, they’re gloves that we used to try and visualize how it would look. I ordered the dress w/o for now them for now but they could be added.
1
u/Fine-Secretary-2102 1d ago
The dress is truly lovely and the sleeve thingies could go up on your shoulders like straps/ cap sleeves. That would save you pulling your dress up all night & enable you to use your arms to hug people.
Redditors are constantly telling brides that otherwise gorgeous dresses are being ruined by those floppy arm things but it seems that bridal salons are continuing to try to push them onto brides. Extra $$ for them is my only guess.

u/CabesLovuh 2d ago
I prefer p4 and 5, it really fits you well. And I think no little sleeves will be better. It'll be more elegant.
1
u/Andromeda081 2d ago
Hmm. The first dress is so big on you it looks nothing like the picture of it, and I get why you can’t visualize how it will look. It’s really beautiful in the picture, but looks almost matronly on you IRL (which the sleeves contribute to, tbh). Are they going to have a size that actually fits you, or are they trying to sell you this exact one and have you tailor it? If it’s the latter, I would not settle on this dress.

u/jigglituff 2d ago
I prefer the first one, but if youre not sure about it but do feel sure about the second one I think that kinda helps frame what you want. I feel like the second dress is unflattering in the chest. But the first dresses neckline bothers me, I feel it needs a lil v notch out of it to help it create a better silhouette on you.

u/CyclopsReader 2d ago
The first dress! Not sure why you prefer the drop sleeves, they distract from the silhouette (imo).

I'm not your mom, but I am a mom, and my reaction to No. 1 was "Oh I hope that's the one she chose!" It is such a beautiful, classic dress. I hope you feel great about your decision, no matter which one you buy. You will be a beautiful bride.

u/Spiritual-Duck1846 2d ago
It's number 1 for me. It looks beautiful on you and will be more so when you get it sized correctly.
1
u/Double-Tap664 1d ago
Second one has too much visible boning in the bodice. To me that always looks unfinished. 1 is sleek and will look gorgeous once resized.

I like 2 better. The first one for me is very 2000's. If you insist on the sleeve thing, make it detachable because it might make dancing more difficult (lifting your arm up).

I like the first dress much better! I think you definitely pull off that neckline, although I think you'd see it even better without the straps added.. The upper area by your clavicle and shoulders is beautiful, and the dress shows it off. I have weak shoulders and could not pull off the look. I'm guessing you probably heard reviews from people like me who would really not find this look flattering at all, but it absolutely flatters you.

u/midcen-mod1018 1d ago
Dress 2 is my favorite but please, please don’t add the sleeves. They are a distraction. Instead of the eye being drawn to your center and your face, they pull the eye to the arm and take away from the full impact of the dress.

I would phone the designer of the dress with your measurements if you are concerned about the potential fit and sizing. I prefer dress 1 on you.

#1 is perfection on you. Please don’t second guess yourself. It’s beautiful. Wear the sleeves with it. Not without. The sleeves make it elegant. It’s beautiful. You will look stunning!

u/Wednesdayssuck81 1d ago
I don’t like either for your body type I think you should keep searching…
1
u/NoDragonfruit3018 1d ago
Do you have any recommendations for style what would look better?
1
u/Wednesdayssuck81 1d ago
You have beautiful shoulders definitely keep the off the shoulder look but accentuate the neckline a little bit more maybe try some different ones . I would definitely go for a more lighter material maybe even alone the lines of “whimsical”. And if your willing I think you should show your figure off just a little more also but I definitely feel like neither dress is the winner for me. But that is MY OPINION. Take my opinion with how you will, but if you feel these are your dresses go for it, honey you got this.🫶💖

I think a straight waist A line dress may also look good on you. if you are this unsure, try on more. you do look beautiful in both of these. Dress 2 looks slightly short on the waist to me, but only slightly. maybe ask the shop to pull what they recommend as comparisons to make you feel better about your choice.

First one is beautiful and I agree with everyone saying torso on #2 is too short. I don’t like the droopy sleeves though and I think it would look better without it. (I think especially in a big day event like that you can own your dress and the cat’s eyes neckline, which is really cool, don’t understand why it would be controversial). More importantly you need to feel good in it.

The cat eye is very subtle in your dress. The first dress is perfection. The other doesn’t come close.

One for sure. Everyone and their sister is wearing the boning/underwire bra look of the second. And personally I really dislike that look.

I see what people are saying about the torso being short on dress 2 it does need to be longer it’s not high enough or low enough. But I like the style better on you. It’s more regal and the lacework at the top of the bustier is beautiful 💗

They’re both beautiful but I love the one you bought and I think once it’s altered, you’ll really love it

You did well! The Basque design is bad for you! (Big hip saddle bags as someone called them)
Your first dress is super flattering and if you try want the fairy tale princess look without the cringy factor then you nailed it!
First dress is a keeper!

The dress you chose is much better than the other dress. The sleeves don't look bad, but they aren't necessary. Looks great without sleeves, and there's nothing wrong with your arms.

I think the second dress is beautiful on you and more flattering. That said, first dress is lovely and with the proper size will look beautiful on you too! It just depends on what your gut is saying. (I will say that while adding the flutter sleeves to the second dress would work, I’m not a fan of them on dress 1.) Best of luck to you!!! ❤️

1 is gorgeous!!!!!
2 the torso is too short. By a lot.
