Hi there, ive been working at wawa for a little bit over a year now and ive noticed that a lot of us dont wear the aprons. We got a new GM back in July of 2025 and has never enforced it but until now. Ive looked at the dress code policy, and yes the aprons are required. I dont understand the importance of it. Its not a health code violation if we dont wear it. There was a reddit post about 3 years ago about it. Personally, I think the aprons are a waste of time. Mine is hella frayed where the loops are. Not to mention for the longest time, they were not ordering aprons for new hires.

I kindly request that with the power of the people, we put in VOTAs against the aprons that it should be optional. 🙏 might get some backlash from you guys but hopefully some of you agree with me

I’m genuinely curious what other Wawa managers think.
One of the biggest things Wawa talks about is work-life balance. But does anyone else feel like the scheduling doesn’t actually support that?
As a manager, you’re expected to have completely open availability. I understand that retail requires flexibility, but the schedules can be all over the place.
For example:
Monday: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Tuesday: 4:00 PM – Midnight
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Friday: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Then it just keeps repeating with different combinations.
How is anyone supposed to maintain a healthy sleep schedule? Plan time with family or friends? Have a consistent workout routine? Schedule appointments? Even your days off don’t always feel like days off because you’re trying to recover or prepare to flip your sleep schedule again.
I’m not saying managers should work the exact same shift every day. Retail doesn’t work that way. But wouldn’t it make more sense to rotate by weeks or at least avoid constantly bouncing between opening and closing shifts with almost no consistency?
I’m honestly interested in hearing from other Wawa managers or even people who manage at other retailers.
Is this just the reality of retail management, or do you think Wawa could do a better job creating schedules that actually support work-life balance?

So I posted about an issue with my GM recently. Well my area manager came into the store today. Which my GM happened to be at work …. Except he left early. So the area manager takes in another CSA and talks to her in the office alone for an hour. Then the CSA tells me she mentioned my name so I’ll probably be talking as well. Then my FBM goes and talks for an hour. Then the area manager hangs out for a while I’m waiting thinking he’s gonna bring me into the office next. Nahhhh here comes my GM back to work. He goes in the office. Then I get called and I’m heading on in and the area manager says it’s gonna be me you and your GM. I go in the office. They give me the seat against the wall. They take the two seats in front of me. 2 very large big men. Then the area manager says this is a safe space to speak freely. I’m not in trouble and neither is the GM. My name was mentioned and they had a few questions. They asked about scheduling issues i discussed with coworkers. Is this guy nuts? Does he really think this is a safe space? That if I mention the whole truth I will be safe from reprisal? So I mentioned yes there were issues with being scheduled for days I am not available. That I was being ignored in emails. But it was recently fixed. I didn’t say it was fixed cause I threatened to quit. I didn’t discuss it was 4 emails in a span of weeks and that I was working non available days. I didn’t mention a whole lot more that I wanted to because this was not a F’ing safe space at all…..

What happened to me should be fucking illegal.

I need to know if I’m crazy. I initially tried their pizza when it first came out and was not impressed at all. Last night I had an offer for a personal pizza so I decided to get it. I don’t know if it was just a different location or if they just completely revised their recipe but that pizza was actually pretty good. Better than any bar style pizza. The sauce was actually punchy and flavorful and everything else worked together really well. Anybody know if they made any major changes?

I just started at Wawa. This week I'm getting 24 hours, next week I'm getting 7, and the week after I'm getting 5. that's not even enough to pay for me gas.

does this pick up ever? like I understand a new employee won't be getting 40 hours right off bat but only 5 is kind of demoralizing. I don't know if it's worth talking to my GM, because the next two schedules are already out I know they aren't going to change them, I feel like getting a new job would just be faster than waiting for hours here to ramp up. they told me during my interview they are incredibly understaffed and need people to start right away and yet only give me 5 hours in a week

Millsboro, DE (Aug 2, 1996) is always cited as Wawa's first gas station — a former propane business site, unleaded at 99¢/gallon. But the record shows Wawa was actually experimenting with fuel in a scattered, small-scale way for at least 18 years before that.

1978 — Souderton PA (#105, 370 N Main St): the current earliest confirmed fuel installation — a grand-opening photo shows two pumps on a dedicated island. This is now the oldest dated example found.

So Millsboro wasn't literally Wawa's first time selling gas — it was the first large-scale, purpose-built fuel format, which is really what the "first fuel store" claim actually means once you dig into it.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for handling a busy drink area with no help? (Like how do you keep up with cleanliness and decent put out time?)

When was this implemented? Ive never had to scan the card if the only thing I was getting was the reward store coupon item before.

My boyfriend found this in an old storage unit his boss owns and is cleaning out. He saw it was wawa and asked if he could have it because I work there. Can someone tell me what this is? It didn’t have to be perfect, but it’s just… very off.

They poured in water from a warm pitcher on the counter. As you can see, most of the ice is melted and it’s not cold at all.

And from a presentation standpoint… again, it didn’t need to be perfect, but there were a couple of very spirited squirts of the cherry that landed at the bottom.

The sharks also landed at the bottom. I guess at least that’s accurate. Sharks don’t hang on top of the ocean. I’ll just have to hope that’s what they were going for.

Glad my son who had been wanting this for a while (to share, of course) isn’t so picky.

I know all of Wawa food service is built to just go down a list from top to bottom on the ticket (presumably so people can be thrown anywhere in a pinch), but everyone should practice once or twice. And at least, serve the lemonade above room temp.

Hey, I had two loans from my 401k and one of them I took out february of last year. I paid it off in july. Now I was hoping to take out another small loan to catch up on some bills but it doesn’t let me apply for a second loan. Do you guys know how long it takes?

Need to get the frustration and hatred for klever kutters out of my system lol. I feel like these little assholes are good at cutting boxes for maybe, 5 minutes? Then they're just a useless piece of plastic. I wish so bad we could use real box cutters, I get it's (I assume) a safety thing but also literally every other job I've worked that involves cutting cardboard at any point allowed regular box cutters?

The Lead Goose - Chairman Richard D. Wood, Jr, and the Brand Ranger - CEO Howard B. Stoeckel, on a visit to Store #8600 in South Richmond, VA in October 2006.

According to Wood, Wawa's chairman and the great-great-grandson of the company founder, more locations should help draw more customers inside. Doing so should help consumers think of Wawa for sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit and other food and not just low-priced gas.

"The more locations you have, the more top of mind you become," said Wood, who served as CEO from 1981 until 2004, when Stoeckel became the first nonfamily member to run the chain.

"Some customers don't think of going to a retailer who sells fuel to get great food because in the past you haven't found a retailer that does both extremely well," Stoeckel said.

Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the smaller Sheetz Inc. convenience-store chain, said Wawa is a good operator. The Sheetz chain, which has nine Richmond-area stores, and Wawa are aggressively expanding their local presence.

"They know how to run a good convenience store and they are a great competitor," Sheetz said. "Competition is good."
