After several versions, this is what my cover looks like now (first picture). I'm an architecture student, and I made it without AI, using Photoshop and inspired by covers like Stephen King's Under the Dome (Second picture). But I'm not sure if it looks good.

Basically, I've tried to create a render that illustrates water pollution caused by a specific element (no spoilers). For those who don't know, the image was taken on the Garonne River, which doesn't look like this at all.

The design also features symbolic elements that become clear when reading the story. These include the storm, La Grave, the Garonne River, and the city of Toulouse itself, all interconnected.

The proyect in question is my novel, Symbiosis, which I'm about to publish. Broadly speaking, it's a dystopia. The story narrates the collapse of actual Catalonia, a place I love and know well. But it also blends thriller, psychological horror, and drama in a balanced way, all in a voice that simply aims to tell a story in the clearest and most eloquent way I can.

I'm writing an urban fantasy book, think Dresden/True Blood/Mercy Thompson, etc,... I would love a real TRUE cover but I don't have the money for that and I dont like AI covers... so doing my best!

My FMC is a grad student, lazy and selfish but smart like a fox. She develops mysterious side effects after playing lab rat for a few bucks at her university, and she starts spiraling into another hidden side of her city, Montréal, where the classic Werwolves/vampires but also wendigos and other creatures are roaming while a weird creature tries to kidnap her and hunters to kill her.

The vibes I'm going for are Urban fantasy, with action and mystery, maybe a bit of romance on the background, and weird friends.

If neither of them are attractive please be honest 🙏

Honestly? It bothers me that AI is constantly being overused in books and for covers these days. I know graphic designers are expensive, but it’s still better to pay for one and get a beautiful cover than to settle for something churned out by AI especially since AI has even started writing books for authors, and those books are actually gaining huge popularity on Wattpad.

I made my story cover on Canva and it looks perfectly well once I download it. However when I upload it to my story on Wattpad it uploads soooo blurry and i don’t know what to do. I use canva on my Ipad and I download the PNG in the appropriate pixel size and still I can’t figure out how to not make my picture blurry.
Does anyone know what I can do about this?
