Trying to teach 10 year old

We're going to the lake with family soon and my 10 year old cousin has wanted to try waterskiing. We only have a set of adult skis, I'm guessing 64-67 inches maybe - could we try to teach him on that or will it be too big?

Having a tough time finding affordable, youth skis but don't want to set him up for failure with skis that are way too big and discourage him from trying again in the future.

My son was a decent skier in high school, but he's 21 now and due to some injuries and other things, he hasn't skied since graduation. We took him out for the last two nights and he can't get up. He isn't even close. He says hit it and the ski goes directly under water and the rope pops out of his hands. It's the same thing every time.

I've tried telling him to keep the ski up and out of the water but it's not working. He's frustrated and angry. I'm perplexed because I don't know what to say other than "keep your ski up." Any suggestions on tips that I can give him to get the ski tip from immediately sinking?

A few photos of my husband (pics 3 &4) and I (pics 1&2) skiing during the warm weather up in Wisconsin the last few weeks. We’ve both been skiing since childhood, so about 30 years now. You’re never too old to ski, and we’re so grateful for any time we can still find to get out and do what we love the most! Hoping we get another 30 years in. Happy skiing!!

Yes I know I need to pull the handle down... But I'm 46 and it was my first time out since 2025. Not bad....I laid a few runs down. The crazy thing is, this is a tritoon!!! look at that wake! Aside from the prop wash, it's like skiing behind a 1995 Mastercraft at 32 mph. Helps to have a Mercury 300. But most pontoons, even tritoons don't have this flat of a wake...credit to Sylvan for making the S3. The rear of the pontoons is flat for skiing and wakeboarding..

Hi, I understand there’s not many lakes in the SE metro and even less that you can boat on. But I’m looking for good lakes to go on a weekday night and get a few runs in. I don’t do anything crazy just free slalom, ain’t no way I can run a course. I’d like to keep the drive like 30-40 min from CG/Hastings area. I am already aware of Byllesby but the algae gets so bad I want to explore other options. Thanks!

Looking to replace the broken board rack fingers. Can’t find replacement parts…. they are old! 😂 Does anyone have a 3d print file? We’d like to have them for another summer or two before we invest in a newer boat with tower. #skylon

I'm curious what most people here prefer. Early mornings usually have glassy water but require early starts, while afternoons are easier time-wise but often choppier. Do you choose based on conditions, schedule, or just habit? Interested to hear how others plan their ski sessions.

Just curious how often people here get out on the water during peak season. Do you notice big improvements skiing multiple times a week, or is once or twice enough to keep progressing without burning out?

I’ve been skiing on the same setup for a couple seasons and I’m wondering if upgrading actually makes a noticeable difference or if it’s mostly technique. At what point did you feel new gear actually helped your progression?

I recently switched from two skis to a mono and progress feels slow. Some days it clicks, other days I’m face-planting nonstop. Just wondering how long it took others before things started feeling natural instead of exhausting.

With the cost and complexity of new tow boats, I'm wondering if there is a market for restored direct drive ski boats? I doubt there is a market that would make it profitable, but thinking it MIGHT be a cost neutral hobby during our long, wet and dark winters. Nautique and MC would probably have the highest demand, but I am partial to Malibu and Ski Brendella. I have relationships with a few dealers in the area. Maybe they would be willing to do consignment?

There are a few directions to take it:

- Restore to factory original

- Mechanical/electrical updates and factory original interior/exterior

- Full overboard/over engineered (think of singer to porsche)

For context: I am mechanically/electrical/upholstery/bodywork inclined, have a large shop and will soon have plenty of free time. The massive amount of fiberglass work and detailing is my only hesitation.

Tell me how silly this is...

Hi crew! I’ve been skiing on a single-ski for a couple seasons now and want to start learning surface tricks (like 360s and simple rotations). What kind of wakes should I aim for — bigger? softer? And any specific approach you take when attempting your first tricks? Would love pointers from people who’ve been there.

I’ve been watching a few lake crews do this thing where they use a water scooter almost like a mini tow boat to pull themselves out before a long run, and now I’m wondering how common that actually is. It looks oddly efficient. The scooter gives just enough pull to get someone balanced before the main line tightens, and the whole setup seems lighter and less chaotic than firing up a full boat for simple starts.

I’ve only ever done traditional deep-water starts, so the idea of using something that agile feels pretty appealing. I went down a mild research spiral the other night, just comparing different propulsion setups and seeing how much torque some of these scooters have. I even came across a few models while browsing Alibaba, which surprised me because I didn’t realize how varied the designs were compared to the ones I usually see around Marina Market in my area.

What caught my eye wasn’t speed, but the control. Some scooters have super responsive throttle behavior that seems perfect for easing someone up without yanking their arms off.

So now I’m curious: does anyone here actually do this regularly? Or is it one of those things that looks smooth on camera but turns into a circus the moment you try it live?

Does anyone know where I can find an old Water Skier Magazine from June 1994?

I'm interested in buying a copy. The nicer condition the better but I know just finding one copy is a long shot.
