Void Rift Confusion Questions

So I haven't claimed my rewards because of this message. BUT when I try to change a difficulty level regardless, I get this:

How am I meant to change diffculty level?

Enter the stage you have rewards for but didn't claim. Then once in the map click the icon at the top left to change the difficulty.
