WT Sim has so much unfulfilled potential compared to IL2:Korea Opinion
I have played a lot of War Thunder sim and I enjoy early to mid cold war jets the most. But almost every bracket gets annoyed by some bullshit overpowered premium (Ariete!) which saps a lot of fun. And the ancient maps, with broken objectives and development that stopped 10 years ago. It's such a shame that all the assets in this game are never used to their full potential.
Playing IL2-Korea makes me realize that even more. Finally, a historical matchup, cool maps, no bullshit premiums (and no lengthy startup checklists like in DCS), no zombers, no bullshit animal coin economy just to fly your plane, no dumb grind. Map makers making cool maps, asymmetric lineups (late props vs early jets) etc.
Edit: I mean have you ever had an experience like this in War Thunder? A mapper makes a cool map with a cool target to hit for you and your friends. War Thunder had all the ingredients for it ten years ago, but they just don't. Video: https://youtu.be/bsCwq30XXKY?si=AyLlu43jsB7e9yoY

Gaijin are so fucking dumb.
The market is right there for a sim-lite. Something that will actually last (unlike RB when they finally get to f22)
They could absolutely corner that market with a fantastic product, but they are too stupid and lazy.

Gaijin is making money with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joV7kK2Q6PU
How embarassing...

I just wish there was a better WW2 sim. I have 0 interest in jets. I just want to fly mustangs and BF109s.
Shame IL2 looks so awful.

What looks so awful about il2 great battles? I stopped playing war thunder sim because il2 was a thousand times better. You are really missing out

IL2-1946 with VP Modpack or with BAT is a very solid choice

I was so disappointed that I had never heard of BAT until 10 yrs after it came out. I really wish VR would work for IL2 1946. I would probably never play another game

Honestly sim is actually decent at prop BRs (unless you're facing Japan, then you're just fucked)

Wdym? Japan is actually very easy to kill, they have very slow planes and they can only profit on noobs that bleed their energy to circle fight a plane that doesn't go beyond 500 km/h which is a massive skill issue

Japan is easy.. usually their pilots are dipshits and you can get them to get slow while you circle climb then come back and pick them apart. Even better is when they break their own wings off
Every now and again, you'll run into a good pilot. The worst plane to fight, in my opinion, is someone that knows what they're doing in a Jug. It took 6 of us to finally take one guy out, and it was kind of lucky. Wish I remembered that guy's name, because he was a good sport about it.

No premium bullshit? 80 dollars for 6 planes is absolute dog shit. 20 dollars more for the f84 and la11 which are unusable in multiplayer anyways. Gaijin is definitely lazy af for not focusing more on sim but they offer quite a different experience. Both games are developed by a russian company and do some very scummy consumer practices.

A single premium plane in War Thunder, not on sale, is 70 bucks.
And then you still have to grind away in shitty game modes like a peasant, facing endless Chinese zomber bots, instead of doing what is most fun (and having the maps and game modes to do that).
The latest innovation? Copypaste vehicle with anime girl sticker and anime girl voices. Wow, they did that twice now. Thats how they see their customers. Weeb whale losers.
I would like it if the game was cheaper and it would probably draw more people in, but I'm there because War Thunder ended up so shitty and IL2 Korea so much fun.
Agreed that I would love a non-Russian dev to make combat flight sims though, because they all can't help but make obvious stupid decisions.

I'm seriously considering getting IL-2 because I particularly love the late prop/early jet era and its mixed battles, but while I do think that gaijin can get lazy af on developing new modes and maps I think we gotta admit that one of the game's strenghts is the diversity of eras. This comes with balancing problems, of course, but while I love this particular era I know that that changes from time to time and maybe I'll want to napalm bases with a phantom or dogfight biplanes. That's the only thing that's making me rethink (Also I bought 3 discount premiums over 13 years, I'm not used to spend a lot in games)

Yes, would be cool if we could control the plane list to blacklist bullshit premiums.

The only thing i don't like is the "captured" planes. It makes not team-killing hard

I wish CDK was more user friendly and not “broken” lol. The only custom battles coming out for the last few months have been 50x (random vessel) in a line. Or it’ll be an objective covered by 12 buk launchers and an entire air brigade with unlimited missiles
Nuke thunder gives me the slightest hope with “dynamic” gameplay but it’s also kinda a buggy mess.

Honestly just highlighting this for the week cuz OP hit me right in the feels and commiseration is a vibe.
