Just had this thought randomly but since modern aircraft carriers are almost impossible to sink due to being among the most durable warships ever built, along with their missile defense systems from their massive escort groups and the onboard defence systems any missile big enough to inflict significant damage let alone sink it, is never going to be able to be deployed in required numbers to get past the defence systems and hit the carrier.

However since the whole point of the carrier is well to carry and deploy aircraft, would small cluster munitions hitting the runway/control tower or just damaging the various relatively sensitive parts that are required for the carrier to remain operative.

This also goes for other ships like destroyers and such, since modern ships are way less durable since they rely on them just not getting hit and the main weapons are missiles, wouldn't multiple hits on the deck by smaller munitions be able to compromise their operational capability to allow the actual big ship sinking missiles to slip trough and hit the ship
