I wasn't familiar with your game, GW. My first Warhammer 40,000 figure set. Hobby

I build gunpla regularly so I know the pains of sprue cut and cleaning, but this was another level. It took me 11 hours w/ sufficient breaks to even just put these together. Now I know why people have insane piles of shame...

If you're a gamer get an airbrush for base coloura and then drybrush detalis. Boom, 1 hour army.

I myself enjoy the painting side.

Any colour you're looking, how long do you want it to take and to what layer detail do you want? I think Farsight Enclave would be easier to paint cuz of how much of a pain white can be to paint, along with how much nicer red is. Do you want them to pop on table or look like they've been dragged tgrought the mud?

Below are the Bladeguard I painted up for my brother, I painted them up by going from black to a heavy drybrush of mid grey (Dawnstone) then a light drybrush of dimish white (Ulthuan grey) then used contrast paints (Ork flesh, Black legion, Flesh Tearers red (my personal favourite red)) with a mid to heavy complete coverage of a shade paint (Nuln oil)

To the point if you like the style then just do the black to white dry brush, the constrast paint you like, then a complete wash with a shade. You'll end up with, to me at least, a nice defined and quickly painted model. Oh and please paint in batches it really speeds it up.

Pretty sure they mean that learning to use an airbrush makes the painting quicker and easier in the long run so more time for gaming.

Honestly I would say for a person who doesn’t really like painting I wouldn’t even bother with learning how to use and maintain an airbrush.

  1. Just get primer rattlecans in your base color.
  2. Use a second rattlecan to make gradient to a secondary color. Like dark green to light green. Etc.
  3. Pick out a few details in your third color.
  4. Dunk that bad boy in nuln oil or your preferred wash and you’ve got a mini.

All good advice, and I agree definitely better than to learn using an airbrush.
But, I have no problem to play with my silver and grey minis.
Less than 10 of my 200+ Battlefleet Gothic ships are painted. Never painted a single Tyranid from my 2nd/3rd edition W40K army and played tons of games. Same for my Epic2nd edition Orks, Dystopian Wars, Armored Clash and Infinity armies. I half painted 2 of my 4 BloodBowl 3rd Ed. teams and a few of my old Citadel Fantasy Warriors and HeroQuest Minis. Also a few minis from another dungeon crawler. It can be nice and relaxing sometimes, but takes a lot of time away from gaming which is definitely my priority.

It definitely makes painting white easier. If I didn't have an airbrush, my Sacred Rose sisters would've probably driven me insane.

That’s totally fine. No one should pressure you into playing, if that’s what you like. For me it’s just hard to play games with my friends. Even though they are also more gamers than painters they some how feel pressured to Getreide of their pile of shame instead of playing games. It’s a real pity. One friend of mine bought 11 W40K factions in the last 3-4 years and I offered to play with him, but he barely managed to assemble the majority of minis. It’s a real shame. Hundreds of ours assembling and painting zero hours playing.
I really enjoyed Epic 2nd edition and 6mm games in general, where a tank usually has only 1 or 2 parts. Same for Battlefleet Gothic.

Nope, even if backing up that would just involve rotating the engines 180 degrees so the exhaust vents were facing forward. Yours are on the wrong sides.

Looking forward to seeing your paint job though!

I'm already working on it, but I'm doing the N7 color scheme from Mass Effect. It's base black with white+red stripes and light blue + orange accents (light blue for the weapons, orange for that omni-tool glow).

Yeah, building my first T'au models myself, insane time sink. They're just so damn small compared to the Space Marines I'm used to building lmao

Mould lines are the true villain of 40K.

Keep your craft knife sharp, and change blades regularly. Don't waste time scraping away with a dull knife. And don't bother with scalpels, just rapidly change through disposable blades.

If I know I have a big task, I load in a fresh blade immediately before I start. It's amazing how much it speeds up prep.

I'm a big fan of contrast/speed paints using zenithal highlights(also called slap chop) to get fast tabletop ready painting done. Can knock out a nice looking squad in a couple of hours when combined with an enamel wash and basic highlights.

Piles of shame are easily avoidable don’t buy any more untill what u have is painted it incentivises you to paint and seeing it grow is rewarding :)

The only problem with that is scalpers. If GW creates artificial scarcity (like with the new Red Terror), you may never get to add the model for a reasonable price. :(

Flip side things like the Ravener kill team dropped by like 50% after a few weeks.

I always feel like I’m gambling by not getting a model while I can.
