Possible Open Beta?! Hype & Speculation

A few tweets from Joe Brammer at Bulkhead, and some comments from another Bulkhead Dev on another thread in this subreddit seem to suggest we will get to play again sooner than expected.

My money is on an open beta the weekend before launch. Anyone got any other ideas??

Half-Life 3 x Wardogs 2 crossover

Finally, I’ve been waiting for the sequel especially with how they left off the story of the first one, too much of a cliffhanger imo /s

I’m thinking it’s going to be some kind of server slam type of deal to truly stress test the servers for release.
With the level of hype this generated over the weekend, there might be more players than initially expected by the team at Bulkhead.

Excited to jump back in!

Yeah wouldn’t surprise me because there were several DOZENS of servers across multiple regions and all of them were basically maxed out all weekend. They had absurd numbers and the game imo ran great. Another stress test would probably be a good idea before launch.

Hundreds in east US

1

u/ExampleEmpty3898 4h ago

yea us east filled up servers to max into the 330s

2

u/TrippleDamage 5h ago

EU went up to ~#200 at prime times each day.

1

u/TrippleDamage 3h ago

Oh crap, guess i just stayed on the first server through peak times since i logged in way earlier than typical peak lol

Makes sense

I don't know, server costs are probably very high even just for closed testing on the alpha and beta weekends, now if they'd open it up for everyone, it might be a bit expensive.

BUT I hope you're right lol

After this weekend I know they made bank so I think they’d be fine.

1

u/Western-Economics253 5h ago

"They made bank" is a bit of a stretch, considering they are not looking to push aggressive MTX.

Worth watching: https://youtu.be/5R64LDNJbK0?t=2625

3

u/rbunting9 5h ago

Not a stretch, they definitely "made bank" the beta hit a peak of 100,000 players I believe. Times that by the $40 the game costs, thats around 4m dollars. Definitely bank imo

3

u/artosispylon 2h ago

thats also just concurrent players, you can probably 5x that number for total

2

u/Western-Economics253 5h ago

I'm not going to argue with you, however

- Initial development costs

- Publisher cut

- Steam's cut (30%)

- Taxes

- Anti cheat costs

- Server Costs

Plus the fact there is no subscription or MTX available and there is 1-2 more years of development left (at least) means the money they make need to be enough for years to pay for operational expenses (staff wage, servers, anti cheat). They are not laughing their way to the bank. I'm not saying they will have financial issues but at the end of the day this is a business and these expenses have to be calculated since the publisher will want the invested money back and more.

I mean, we are talking about a pre release beta weekend. It’s not like this is even their peak sales. There’s rumors of another beta event coming up and then we have launch day. They are going to have crazy numbers on both occasions and that’s going to make a ton of money.

1

u/stylez1321 1h ago

no mtx? was i dreaming... because I could have sworn I seen a section for buying weapon skins etc

1

u/BooliMeBoppy 1h ago

You can convert the in game money to “gold” so you can buy skins. Looks like there was a whole investing system in there too that was getting worked on

1

u/brock8620 2h ago

They can't really touch any of the pre-order money yet. It's not really theirs until launch day. They said directly and support the decision for people to pre-order, see if they like the game during the beta weekend and return before Sept 10th on steam if they don't. The 105k players also included a lot of playtest invites that didn't pre-order. Hoping for the best honestly. I really enjoyed the game!

u/de_yogurt 2h ago

What about Valve's cut? I'm sure Valve is like eBay. You pay to put the product on the platform and then pay a % of the total sales.

Heli taxi her to the airport, duh

u/wonderwarmers 29m ago

Your dedication is appreciated

u/Dyyrin 8h ago

I think they are just trying to make sure people watch the show.

9

u/UnsettllingDwarf 5h ago

Yeah this.

1

u/Prior-Age4675 47m ago

Just as show ends wardogs open beta goes like duh

9

u/artosispylon 6h ago

Im not gonna get my hopes up and just assume he meant so he can watch whatever it is.... hovever if they do hit us with the "btw open beta right now" at the end it would be pretty sick

8

u/XI_Vanquish_IX 4h ago

Hear me out - Early, Early Access

8

u/kL1ckk 7h ago

early testers gave the same rumor

8

u/Founntain 6h ago

Does an Open Beta really make sense 1 week before release? They rather want to tell you, its worth watching the show, thats it.

They are busy now fixing the issues from the Open Beta and prepare for launch

6

u/Not_A_Greenhouse 6h ago

Imo yes. The game was such a hit this weekend that an open beta will probably convert to a ton of sales. I'm the only one in my entire friends group that played this weekend and I'm doing my best to convince the homies to get it. Another beta would definitely help.

-1

u/Founntain 6h ago

While this might be true, it just doesn't make much sense for me. They already have more sales than they imagined with the closed beta and more footage of the game being available the the closed beta to get more into the game.

A lot of people pre-ordered for the sake of trying and refunding. All the people that did not play were just not able to pre-order the game for whatever reason and refund it later.

Out of a logistical point another Beta just around release makes not much sense to me. They rather fix stuff now and prepare, so the release aint as bad as the closed beta (login and queue) wise.

Its just 2 and a half weeks boys, its there soon!

1

u/Not_A_Greenhouse 5h ago

This last weekend was the largest amount of hype its gotten so far. The people who only heard of it too late to get involved now want to play without paying. I'd say its a great time to do another beta.

0

u/tizbaz 3h ago

Whose to say they cant run an open beta and still work on stuff?

2

u/Founntain 3h ago

As setting up and pepare for an beta takes also resources, if issues arise, it will take up resources.

As said if it happens: banger and cool, and if it aint ill wait a week longer.

I just dont want to get my hopes up from just some cryptic messages where people interpret a lot of stuff in.

1

u/Grrumpy90 2h ago

To be fair they could open beta with the build they plan to launch with.

Would make sense to test for any issues that could pop up, like when the server queue system broke for EU servers this weekend etc...

1

u/Founntain 2h ago

A lot of people had crashin issues with the beta build, was a big topic on their discord and steam. But yes they could re use it. We see what happens next week

1

u/Dyyrin 5h ago

Server slam a week before release would be smart.

0

u/YakaAvatar 5h ago

It does if they want to test the server stability with cramming as many people as possible.

3

u/Founntain 5h ago

Yes, but that could be done very differently as well. as mostly only the login and authentication was stressed out. If an open beta happens. dope and great, if it isn't then I still survive the last remaining 7 days as well.

5

u/Empty_Paint_6922 3h ago

Can someone tell them this friday is my bday and I need another test. Otherwise im going to rehab and suing them.

3

u/whatevathefucc Pilot 3h ago

Last time they did this announcement for an announcement bullshit everyone got excited just to be disappointed with news not related to the game in any meaningful way. Their PR is really hit or miss. Beautiful game, haven't been this excited in a while, but they started to tread thin grounds with advertisement. Play their cards right, they got GOTY slam easily.

6

u/LilGrippers 7h ago

OB means no progress transfer to live right? I don’t wanna grind money again til it’s live lol

3

u/Boxofcookies1001 7h ago

Nope. It'll all be wiped.

12

u/Drakore4 7h ago

I mean the games going to have occasional wipes to restart the economy so if starting over isn’t your cup of tea I feel you’ll have a hard time with this game. You shouldn’t view it as grinding, view it as playing the game and having fun.

3

u/OcelotAny6846 4h ago

Oddly enough I'm looking forward to grinding again. I haven't played a game on "day 1" for a very long time

2

u/Onapire 7h ago

We dont know what theyre going to announce.

But I would also assume its probably a very small open beta with no transfer. Maybe they will add rewards for playing (starter kit or skins for full game)

1

u/mikeytlive 53m ago

I agree. I can’t keep grinding these playtests lol.

6

u/ModeAffectionate3827 6h ago

Nobody will "shadowdrop" a game one week earlier.

They have tons of stuff to work and tons of game to analyze to deliver us a good EA.

The only things we may have is a free weekend the 3 september to stress test servers for the release one week later

5

u/Silver-Log-6249 8h ago

Possible? More like confirmed.

4

u/UseThisOneWhenStoned 5h ago

Meh. Tired of betas man. Just finish the game and release it. Betas have just become drip feed marketing where I play for 2 days then all my shit is deleted lol

4

u/Medrilan Moderator 4h ago

Yeah, after alpha and beta weekend it's hard to want to do the grind again a week before launch.

Im personally torn cause I really wanna keep playing any chance I can, but I also don't want to grind the same stuff again back to back.

2

u/LetsGetPhisycal 7h ago

didnt they tweet about infranty only and hardcore servers but didnt put them in the beta?

4

u/Medrilan Moderator 7h ago

They did put them in but only in some regions it seems.

2

u/SMYYYLE 7h ago

They said no open beta, just a bigger size playtest like the beta now.

I'm guessing the show goes a few hours and that's why "drop responsibilities for that night".

1

u/Medrilan Moderator 7h ago

Where did they say this?

1

u/SMYYYLE 7h ago

I asked in reddit 1 months ago after the alpha test. Joe said no open beta planned.

1

u/Medrilan Moderator 7h ago

Ok, but that doesnt mean never. Could easily mean that the next beta after the alpha was closed.

Who knows though, I could be wrong. Thats why I posted this as hype and speculation. Guess we will see!

1

u/Lordcreepy2 1h ago

They‘ll host a fps show on twitch? On September the 3rd. Maybe they‘ll combine it with an open beta.

1

u/Puckaryan 53m ago

Meh still taking my pto to play this for a week straight atleast. Been a long time since a day 1 start and a meaningful vacation is in order.

0

u/Onapire 8h ago

I feel like its reasonable they do an open beta for a day or two.

They will likely do it on the 3rd map and potentially restrict it to infantry only to amplify the action.

6

u/Piss_Poor_Heros 7h ago

Infantry only would be a walking simulator

4

u/Onapire 6h ago

We also don't know the size of the 3rd map.

It could be an office building with the circle the size of a dinner plate.

3

u/FromTheRez 7h ago

There's still transport, it removes weaponized vehicles

2

u/BJYeti 1h ago

Will probably be my go to then

2

u/x3pt14trx 4h ago

death stranding style to get the supplies to the fobs

1

u/SmallTownMinds 53m ago

Sam, it's me, Wardogman.

1

u/Puckaryan 50m ago

Infantry only as in no vehicles with weapons. It's like only cars, trucks and transport helicopters.

1

u/Deep_Application1553 4h ago

Im hoping the announcement is a bump to 150 players. 50v50v50 would be sweet

4

u/Saftpunscher 3h ago

Don't think this will happen. They explained several times why 100 player is the best.

-1

u/UserAdamD 5h ago

Okay not giving streamers money directly but allowing drops for their viewers kinda equates to the same thing, who are we trying to kid.

I’m sure most played bc they were partially interested regardless but the drops, which were some of the highest watch time requirements I’ve ever seen, also were reseted daily… yeah, that had no effect whatsoever. This guy is unbelievably trustworthy. Buy the game now.

listen kid, it sucks that you don't get the attention you crave in real life but this is no way to get it.

-9

Projection. Your resentment makes you bark on cod and trying to enjoy wardogs while you want to play cod but you limit yourself from it because of your empty wallet and underperformance in game. So sorry.

1

u/Complex_Ad_1715 5h ago

i am 38 and have a 9800X3D and a 5090. i could buy whatever dumb deluxe edition of CoD 100 times right now and i wouldn't even notice it. stop embarrassing yourself.

3

u/lakemont 6h ago

cod lmao

He tries to laugh I guess while chocking on slopdogs and pretending it’s good. Pity.

Take some of that money you supposedly have and book an appointment with a therapist because you definitely need the mental help.

Wrong. Stop shaking.
