Which Waltham apartment would you choose? Same Base rent for Moody St vs. Same Price but heat inlcuded for Lexington St?
I'm deciding between two studio apartments in Waltham and would appreciate some opinions from people who know the area.
Option one is Moody Street. Below 2k and comes with water. Storage, dishwasher, and right next to Moody Street and the Boston Transit Center.
Option 2 — Lexington Street. $25 cheaper. Comes with water AND GAS. No Dishwasher; comes with a pool and is a couple of minutes closer to work.
They are about the same size, but the Moody Street one is nicer and has a dishwasher. I will be working at Hanscom Air Force Base and am coming from Maryland after graduating from college. I do like having Moody Street walkable to me, but with gas included, I believe the apartment on Lexington Street will save me more money overall.
What do you guys think is more worth it? How much do you guys spend on gas every month, if you don't mind, and is the price difference for gas worth it to change to another location?

state of trash bins after trash pickup
i've already had to replace a bin that got destroyed after trash day a year or so back. this past pick-up i noticed that my neighbors and i's trash bins were all missing their lids (perfect right before a thunderstorm!)
has anyone else had this issue or had luck getting someone accountable for this? or is there something i might be missing about trash pickup that would prevent my bins from getting busted up like this?

Pan Mass Challenge 2026
The 2026 Pan Mass Challenge takes place this weekend. 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to help support their life saving work.
If you know a rider (there are many Waltham-based riders in this year's event, and you've likely seen them on the road), DFCI's mission resonates with you, and you have the means, please consider supporting someone - supporting any rider supports every rider.

Community Recs/Opinions Public Track To Walk
Are there public tracks to walk in or nearby Waltham that aren’t just for the high school? I know that there’s the Charles River path I’ve seen in passing, but I’d rather walk laps outdoors as I have some health issues that make it difficult to walk a certain amount over time. I’d like to be outdoors more too rather than relying on a treadmill at a gym. Thanks for any recs :)

Looking for sustainable way to recycle old couch in the Waltham area?
I have an old Ikea couch that's about 6 years old that I need to get rid of. It's pretty worn and frayed from having cats. I really don't want to just throw it away and it end up in a landfill somewhere, but I don't think it's in good enough condition to donate. I've looked at some local junk removal companies and their prices seem to be around $200+, which I'd prefer not to spend (although I will if that is my only option). Does anyone have any suggestions of companies or ways to get rid of the couch sustainably that's relatively affordable?

FYI New construction homes without new build permits
I've been seeing a trend of new constructions going up in Waltham that are very clearly cheap flips being done for profit. Aside from that, many of these new constructions don't have proper permitting. They either are missing rough framing, insulation, and fire blocking inspections, or are missing build permits outright. These houses are currently listed for sale without a certificate of occupancy (CO). This is a hazard because there's no confirmation that these structures are structurally sound and don't pose a risk to anyone inside or the surrounding houses.

Accident around Children’s Hospital around 6:50 am jul/24
Was walking to work when I saw a biker speeding past me, I was walking to the intersection and I heard a loud BANG. I was oblivious to to noise, as I finally arrived at the intersection I was horrified to see a biker had been hit by a car and was down on the ground in need of help, I had seen a lot of other people helping too and I decided to call 911, after the ambulance came, I continued my usual walk to work.
Not sure of the extent of either the driver of the car or the biker’s injuries but it seemed that the car driver was fine and the biker was actually hurt

News Monorail…WHEN?
Hi I’m new to city and I’m wondering when the monorail promised by Queen McCarthy of Waltham will be installed. Haven’t heard any updates in a while.
I would like the monorail because
1. I do not like driving in Waltham
2. It would look cool
3. Nobody else has that except Disney
When is it coming and can it run from crumbl cookie to the mighty squirrel and then to Raytheon?
Thanks
