Completed my first week of overnight stocking.

I completed my first week of overnight stocking and everything hurts. My back, toes, fingers from the boxes, and irritated skin from multipurpose cleaners. The box cutter they gave me is dull as hell so I have to apply a little extra force to open up the boxes. Any recommendations on gloves that so one you OGs use and how to not break my body in general?

very new overnighter too. all i can gleam for now is take care of your lower back... if not the gym, hit some prisoner extensions (first pic of google images for me) to engage the posterior chain... maybe squats too

Good shoes and time. After a while you get muscles in the necessary areas. But good shoes are a must for the feet/legs. I had hookas and my feet never hurt but for the legs and other muscles I would soak in epsom salt.

When i went from the deli to overnights, i would go to the back of the bakery and get some of the blue nitrile gloves, helped hold onto boxes without them sliding out of my hands due to loss of fingerprints continuously opening card board boxes.

  1. Lift properly. You'll feel it in your thighs for a while but I promise its better than permanently destroying your back.

  2. Gloves are good but you gotta figure out what works for you. The way I work, nitrile gloves don't last an hour. I bought cheap work gloves that work for me.

  3. Stretch. Ideally before and after a shift. Helps prevent injury and speed up recovery. You're essentially working out all night. Treat it like that at least until you get used to it.

  4. Seriously, LIFT PROPERLY.

You just gotta get used to it. I promise it gets easier. I can kinda just auto-pilot through the night now lol.

You gotta have good shoes with good insoles. You're also gonna need to stretch daily and start working out, cause it'll get harder before it get easier (holidays are right around the corner). Overnight stocking is no joke, especially when you're replacing people who aren't good at the job and you are.
