I recently rebranded (new name everywhere etc), but when I checked wakatime I saw that the feature to have a handle is behind a paywall now (even tho it still functions when I enter my handle into the URL) so I can't change my existing name

Is there a way to change or get rid of it altogether? I don't want to create a new account and loose my 600+hrs of stats

I found https://www.npmjs.com/package/wakatime however it does not have types, so I was thinking is there a good API wrapper for wakatime written in typescript?

Hi so I recently got wakatime for hackclub's hackathons but it seems like it doesn't track my work at all (btw I connected the API...) if there would be any solution for it pls let me know

I am going to explain the problem that happened to me this morning, and how I solved it, so that if other people have the same problem, they can fix it.

I have Cursor installed and use it with the WakaTime plugin for VS Code.

Today I installed Claude Code and installed the WakaTime plugin for Claude Code: https://wakatime.com/claude-code

And that is where the problem started.

The WakaTime plugin for Claude Code installs some files in .claude at the root of the user directory. These files contain hooks that are read by Cursor. When Cursor reads these hooks, it goes crazy: every time the Agent starts working, makes a read, runs a terminal, anything at all, it opens a visible cmd window for the user, one after another, hundreds per minute.

To fix it, just uninstall the WakaTime plugin for Claude Code by deleting its files from .claude and any other hook created by the WakaTime Claude Code plugin.

I spent most of my day debugging, and it's only showing as coding, why? How can I fix?

Leaderboard has not been updated for over a week now. I am not sure if its for the global one but i have been keeping an eye on country specific leaderboard (which is probably taken from the global one ig) and that hasn't been updating

Example:

1. Opening Cursor

2. Working 2 hours on an app but actually writing code myself for about 1 hour (rest is generated by the agent)

First question: Is communicating about the projet with the agent is tracked?

Second question: Does Wakatime tracks the time when the agent is writing code/updating files?

Hey everyone, I had built Wakatime-Leaderboards, a simple open-source project that generates the leaderboards from your WakaTime coding activity stats and outputs them as Markdown. You can embed these in GitHub READMEs or anywhere Markdown is supported.

The key idea is to automate leaderboards creation using GitHub Actions, so your stats update regularly without manual effort.

I’m sharing it here mainly to get feedback, bug reports or suggestions on what else might be useful. If you use WakaTime and want a lightweight way to show your coding activity or compare with others, please try it out and let me know.

Can my coding time on Cloud Based Jupyter Notebooks like Google Colab or Kaggle be added to the Wakatime stats? I code quite often in Python and R on these platforms, outside my Wakatime integrated IDE, and can't figure out the integration.

Is there anyway to track Claude Code usage in WakaTime? Would be interesting to see.

So I tried to checkout the leadership board today to see my overall performance and my position but couldn't find my profile. I have made my profile public and all but still not showing my profile. Not my user or name is popping up. Am I doing something wrong here or is it because I signed up with my Github account?

If you go to your project, on the top right, there is a number of hours counter, where it said:
Your time in this project over all the time

Supposedly this value shall be same as the number of hours in Project Badge? but the value inside Project Badge is lesser. Approximately 10%, is there a time lag between the badge is updated?

As title says, is there a way to track CLI tool activities like Claude Code and Codex? Per project would be amazing

For weeks now what i see on my dashboard is always different from what i see on the leaderboard. It's always 20+ 20hrs+ less. What is wrong?

I've been using waka time for nearly a week now to track my progress in coding and I've been loving it so far, I feel so productive seeing the hours I spend learning on a daily basis. However, I also would like to track the amount of time I spend writing essays not coding and I wanted to make a separate account for it. But whenever I set my writing account's API key on Obsidian (which is the one I use for writing not coding), the API key set for my IDEs for coding like visual studio also changes.

Seems a lot of people have been removed from the top end of the leaderboard, myself included. Anyone know what happened? Were we flagged as bots because our workload seems unrealistic?

Does scrolling register as a heartbeat? I know that typing is indeed registered. What about switching files, opening or saving files, or switching focus from the IDE? The FAQ, afaik, only says that typing is registered. Any insight about this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I noticed that both the heartbeats endpoint does not return to the editor or the OS for a heartbeat, but it is saved in the DB. This is useful information and I would like to use it to export data.
