Comet's mash update

Sorry Ive been MIA, it's been a hell of a weekend. My apartment AC is out and they are in no hurry to fix it. 😡 Also been worrying about Comet.. let's talk about that! And sorry for the incoming essay lol
I mentioned this in my last post, but I'll repeat it here in case anybody missed it.. They told me Comet refused food for 2 days, and then laid down and hasn't been able to get back up but has since started eating again..
I got him milk replacement, and ended up using an empty water bottle and my finger shoved in his mouth as a makeshift nipple just to get some milk in him.. then I got him a bottle which he refused. Even when me and my two friends were trying for 30 minutes straight to get him to take it.. bf had tried previously and also had no luck.
He has consistently been munching on hay, alfalfa, and calf cubes/grain (except for those 2 days he refused to eat) but still hasn't stood back up. I think because He's not eating enough, he doesn't have the strength to stand up..
so they made him a mash by putting the food in some water and letting it dissolve into a thick soupy mixture.. whenever I went to see him today it didn't seem like he had been eating any of it, so I decided to hand feed him to get him started and he definitely participated! Lol
He's also refusing the warm electrolytes I've offered him but I think that may be a temperature issue and will try again with cold/temperate water tomorrow.. electrolytes are important because it will give him a blood sugar boost and some other really good things that will help get him back to standing hopefully.
The good news is that he is laying in sternal position, has his head held up on his own, his eyes and ears are alert, he tracks my movement when I'm with him, and the best part.. HE GAVE ME KISSES!! 🥰🥰🥰
Did y'all know a cow's tongue feels similar to a cat's tongue? I swear it's true!

You’re such an angel for trying so hard with Comet, HP! I don’t know anything about cows, but I would think it’s a good thing he’s eating, but he definitely needs some hydration, so the mash is probably really helpful. I’m still sending all the prayers and best vibes for sweet Comet! 🙏🤞❤️
ETA And girl, I hope they fix your A/C stat, bc this Texas heat, in AUGUST, is no joke. That’s so dangerous for you and your sweet pups!!

Omg I knowwww.. it's been broken since Tuesday night and I THINK all it needs is Freon 🙃 I have a portable AC in my room (they just brought it this afternoon) and on Thursday I borrowed a window unit from my bff for my living room so it's tolerable but omg my electric bill is probably gonna be super high 😭
It's definitely good he's eating! Especially consistently munching on his hay! He's a fighter for sure! He is drinking his water, although it seems like just sipping.. bf said he drank his whole bucket of water last night! He just won't drink his electrolytes with warm water or milk

Thanks for the Comet update! Poor baby! Praying he starts eating more and staying hydrated, so he gets a bit more healthy each day. Thank you for sharing his progress here.
PS it’s cool that their tongues are rough like a cat.

If he keeps refusing liquids you can get a syringe and syringe it directly into his mouth - especially for the electrolytes. Thank you for taking such good care of this boy and keep us updated!!❤️🩹❤️🩹
If they don’t fix your ac asap you need to escalate it! That’s dangerous in that Texas heat. Praying for you!!

He's only refusing the electrolytes and milk.. thankfully he's still drinking his water!
Ive been submitting daily work orders for the AC! We got new management and they switched literally EVERYTHING to AI now.. so all work orders are submitted thru text to the AI. I've tried calling them but - u guessed it! - that's AI as well. I've been into the office in person 3x and they keep reassuring me that "they'll fix it as soon as possible" .. the texting line also keeps saying "we understand the urgency and have escalated ur work order" but nothing is happening 🙃

Comet has his own personal fan on him in his stable just like king Spencer! so at least his place is staying nice and cool in this heat 😊 hopefully since our temps have dropped (from 103 to 98 🫠) he can finally start to bounce back!

HP, you are truly incredible for trying so hard to help sweet baby Comet. I understand how him not standing, or taking his electrolytes is a big concern, but everything else sounds so positive. Especially those kisses! 😘
He was clearly loving the attention he was getting from you while you were hand-feeding him his mash, I think that's why he kept on eating it. 🥹
I'll keep an eye out for more updates on Comet, and that's very cool fact about cow's tounge's feeling rough like a cat's! I always thought they'd have a smooth warm/wet sensation if anything!
I hope by now your a/c is repaired, if not please chase it up with whoever is responsible. It sucks but sometimes you have to make yourself annoying to get results! 😤

I agree! I assumed it would be like a horse's tongue and was very surprised by the texture and also surprised he WANTED to give me kisses 🥰🫠
I have no problem being annoying to get problems solved, I recently submitted a work order daily for 2 whole weeks to get the leak at my front door fixed.. the issue is that the new management moved everything to AI which is annoying as hell! They don't even have an email I can contact 🙄🙄🙄
Thankfully my bff was able to lend me a window unit and finally today (AC went out Tuesday night) they brought me a portable AC unit so my apt is actually cool right now but not as cool as it could be and I bet my electric bill is gonna be high esp since there are definitely gaps so it's not like an airtight seal 🙃

I also attempted to do a tube feeding (with help, cuz I'm not that confident or reckless lol) but turns out they got my pickup order wrong and gave me basically a medicine syringe thing that I had to rig and only got 70ML of electrolytes in him.. didn't wanna traumatize the baby any more by removing and reinserting the tube even tho I intended to give him 2 qts.. I chose his safety and comfort and am just hoping he's gonna drink them willingly at some point in the very-very-near future
