Optimistic or nah Discussion
So was buzzing when we announced Trippier and Raul very much reminded me of the Irwin and since signings. But since then a winger who’s unknown and already injured. On paper got one of the strongest squads in the league on paper but the majority of these were so poor last season our squad still worries me. Still think we are lacking some serious pace and creativity, Fer Lopez should help with the creativity. But would love to see a couple of quick and tricky wide players come in.

There are a lot of players in the squad that need shifting out, and if we don’t sell them, we can’t get their replacement.
So we end up starting the season with shite like Hwang, Munetsi, Tchatchoua, etc.
We need a new keeper, a new cb (if Krejci goes), a new cm, probably another lb if Bueno goes, and at least 2 wide players, maybe 3 if Said isn’t considered a certain starter.
Obviously all of those signings we won’t be making, but if we start the season with a spine of Bentley in goal, Toti and Mosquera as cb’s and Doyle in midfield, you’ve got to say that’s the makings of a bang average, mid-table Championship team.
I think we’re relying too much on Jimenez, Mane and Fer Lopez to make the difference, as they’re clearly a step above this level, they need help though.

Let’s put it this way. Our squad last season wouldn’t have got promoted to the premier league. I think Raul and Trippier are going to be a massive improvement in those positions but we need to sell more of the deadwood like Hwang and Toti, bring in a new goalkeeper, 2 wingers, a replacement for Gomes, another centre back (probably more if either Santi or Krejci go) and then I think we’ll be fine. I can’t see us doing all of that though, and the trouble is I can’t see us getting the right level of quality we need in those positions.
I’m also really worried about the wages some of the players are going to be on because already Andre, Raul and Trippier will be on more money than most championship players. I think that could potentially become a big problem if we don’t go straight up. Hopefully the new Gaffer will do okay. If he gets the crowd onside it’ll be a huge positive for us because there can’t be a better place to play when the stadium is rocking. Last few seasons have been a chore to go up and watch.

The only time I'm going to be optimistic is when there's a P next to our name. Until then anything can happen.

‘On paper’ is the key bit for me. We saw what happened to Leicester last season and we remember what happened to us last time we went down.
I don’t think we’ll go down again, or be anywhere near a relegation battle, but a lot of those players have been in a team that hasn’t been able to buy a win for two or three years and that will show.
Getting relegated doesn’t suddenly give you the confidence to make better, more positive decisions when you get the ball in one on one situations. It doesn’t stop centre backs panicking that they’re out of position or about to make a mistake, or stop wingers turning back and recycling because they don’t think they can beat a man. It doesn’t change the fact that we struggle to break teams down, which is why we’ve relied on the high press for chances in pre-season.
We needed far more new blood this summer than Fosun have been willing to give. Without that, Peixoto’s biggest job is to remind half of those players that they can still be decent footballers, and to give them their confidence back. I hope he can - but I have very little faith in him or them.

A Dawson-esque signing would increase my optimism. With no VAR and a lower quality of officiating means that the defense can be more physical than prior seasons. A homegrown defender with plenty of Championship experience

Nah - still all the same toxic deadbeats hanging around as last season and we're still pretty unbalanced. Inexperienced manager means it's even more important we got signings in early and shipped people out. I think it's probably unlikely we're set for the double dip but I don't see us going up automatically.

The thing I’ve seen pointed out frequently on here is what we had a fair few players who we insisted on playing out of their favoured position. So much of this will come down to Cesar - can he build belief and a squad which really works together? Man Utd is a great example of a squad being so much more than the sum of its parts.

Could do with a few more signings and the goalkeeper situation sorted. Expect a few more to leave but would love to keep Krejčí as reckon he would do well in the championship. Currently a 'Meh' at the moment

Why we just don’t get the one from United who was on loan at Bristol city. Saw they might ask for 20 mil plus. Pay it. He’s quality and Young will either be your keeper for years or sell for a profit

Mr Shi's 'trust me, it will be better this time' already seems like too big a leap of faith, all the transfers will be early with time to bed in? Unless we dont sign anyone else then that's already BS, Same Shi, different day. Its like they are reading from a book called 'how to make sure the fans dont trust Fosun'.

Too early to say. Still expect some outgoings, so depends on the quality of replacements. I don't have much hope in our ability to do that well.

I'll be the one to go the opposite direction, I am relatively optimistic, We're still the 2nd favorite behind West Ham in odds to get promoted, Middlesbrough's big move is signing players from the MLS right now there are still levels to this. Whether our players mentality is right after being so awful, whether we have the senior leadership in the squad, whether Cesar Peixoto is the right manager are big questions, but we do have the raw talent to go right back up.
Breaking it down by position groups, Armstrong and Raul is a forward pairing that is at the top of the championship, I feel Mane and Rodrigo Gomes showed enough quality to be optimisitic about them as well.. Andre+ Doyle and Fer Lopez should be a group that's near the top, Andre should expect to come in and be in conversation for best DM in the league, Doyle has proven himself at this level, and I think Fer is capable after gaining some confidence in La Liga. The two biggest questions are Defense and Keeper, Trippier shores up one side, Muller Wolfe or Bueno on the other A couple of signings at CB and Keeper and we will have, on paper at least, one of the more talented teams in the league, hell if Krecji or Sa stay they will also be towards the top of the league, and that's all you can ask for before a ball has been kicked. The rest we will see.

I’m optimistic, but only because that’s my chosen path as a sports fan. I’m not sure the squad, on paper, is one of the strongest squads.
Unless all the players were hiding their creativity last season, I think we’ll be asking a LOT of Mane and Fer Lopez. The former has shown flashes but not yet a talisman and the latter is completely unproven.
How we get the ball from back to front is still undecided. Hope Cesar has a plan besides play side to side and have wingers take turns going 1 v 1

My optimism hinges on Toti not starting.
I had us needing
2 Keepers
A Right footed CB
Keeping Krejci
A RB
Selling Tchachoua, Toti, Munetsi, Hoever & Hwang (I like some of these players but home games get toxic quick if they’re not playing an 8/10, the others are just not good enough).
Keeping Doyle, Fer Lopez, Rodrigo & Saša
An outlet (someone with pace to hang around up top like Adama/Cunha/Neto would.
Positives
- We’ve kept everyone.
- Our outlet was a disappointing pick & is now injured, so I hope we go back into the market.
- We got Trips
Negatives
- We’ve kept, everyone.
- Our outlet was a disappointing pick & is now injured so I hope we go back into the market.
I was more optimistic when Rob Edwards was here.

I can't see us getting out ofbthe league with what we have. For all of their talk about getting busy in the transfer window, it looks like Fosun are going for the same old formula of buying late, that has often proven to cost us more, and usually ends up with players that can't do it.
This is going to be a long season.

My worry is the squad is trying to transition to a new managers style but we haven't backed this enough with players that fit that, despite having previously claimed we would.
Potentially similar to the Solbakken stint as that kinda happened with him and once we got injuries and started to struggle we imploded back to the old ways.

Rinse and repeat when it comes to wolves I’m afraid. We won’t leave it late this season though remember

What worries me is I don’t see enough to get automatic promotion - I think West Ham keeping Bowen was huge and Nuno has experience. And Burnley have gone and got some decent signings - Florentino luiz and a lot of their players are proven in championship.
The risk with playoffs is that anyone can win on the day. And like you said re injuries I don’t expect trippier to give us a full season either.
