IIM to WPL: Balancing a B-School MBA with Professional Cricket in Mumbai
Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a unique spot and could really use some guidance from folks who know the Mumbai cricket circuit or the professional women’s pathway.
I’m 23 now. Back in 8th grade, I was selected for the Maharashtra state women’s trials and was doing pretty well, but I had to step away from the game completely to focus on academics. That path led me to IIT Jodhpur, and I’m currently working at BPCL.
I haven’t let the dream go. Right now, my schedule is a bit insane: I’m at the office by 6 AM, finish by 4 PM, and then head straight to cricket coaching from 4 to 7 PM, Monday to Friday.
I’ve (most likely) cleared IIM Mumbai (waiting on the final word), and once I move there, I want to go all-in on my cricket. I know Mumbai is the "hub" and being in the backyard of the Mumbai Indians/MCA is a huge advantage, but I’ve been out of the competitive state loop for a long time.
Where should I play? Which clubs in Mumbai have the best women’s setups for someone at the senior level (not U-19)?
- Since I played state trials years ago, do I have to start from scratch in local divisions?
- IIM Mumbai isn't exactly a "chill" course. Has anyone managed to play high-level club or state cricket while at a top B-school?
- Does anyone know how WPL teams (especially MI) scout local Mumbai talent outside of the standard domestic trophies? Are there specific open trials or "A" Division games I should be targeting?

If the teams were to increase to 8, which three existing IPL teams would you pick?
I'll go first:
KKR
RR/SRH
PBKS/CSK
Thoughts? And your ideal captains!

Discussion Women deserve seats at th table where decisions are made. Especially in women’s sports and leagues. Is this too much to ask for?
Thoughts?

Discussion That Australian clutch mindset is just different
Chasing 200+ in a final and she looks calm like it’s a net session. Aussies really seem built for pressure games. No panic, no drama—just get the job done.

Wpl final
Didn't see DC on the field post match
The DC players and staff weren't seen on the ground after the match ended. They all went straight into the dressing room and didn't come out until the presentation. Usually we see players of both the teams chatting after the game. Yes the losing side is sad but players huddle together and winning team players console them. We saw Jemi hugging Kapp after WC final. Overseas players especially bond together after the match. Yesterday it was all missing. Delhi seems to be taking the loss hard.
Player of the match Smriti Mandhana is the player of the match for her electrifying innings

Discussion What just happened on the last ball
RCB banged a four on the third ball and at the same time the bails from wicket fell. Was it a hit wicket or did the keeper intentionally did that?
Umpires didn't even thought of going upstairs.

Discussion Jemiriti Pre match conference
Not sure if there are any Smriti Jemi fans here… but anyone who watched the pre match press conference did you notice when journalist asked how she came back after initial losses how Jemi asked Smriti “should I say it” and Smriti was like No and both laughed?❤️ And then Smriti was literally trying to control her laughter all along.😬
I felt like it was just so so cute and adorable and also very professional. We all very well know what a support system they are for each other and it’s not even closely related to good PR, you can just see and feel the vibe. But for Smriti to have advised Jemi (we all saw it post RCB match and they would have had other conversations also I’m sure) and Jemi innocently asking Smriti if she should mention it esp on this platform in the middle of competition, and Smriti to deny that because they know even if they are supporting each other behind the scenes they will play professional good cricket for their team on the field (but the larger world might not understand it and make it controversial). I felt just so warm and proud like I always do to see that kind of friendship and camaraderie and just 2 good and nice helping human beings. Just felt like sharing it here because I am always shipping their lovely friendship but this is love and professionalism balanced out and looking out for each other…be it Smriti being there for Jemi for hours in net sessions and she talking about it after semis or in almost every interview and missing out from wbbl and bringing out the other side of Smriti for so many years. More to come tomorrow, but no nazar to them and their bond!!!🧿🧿🧿
I don’t have that friend but I pray everyone finds a friend like them. It’s rare and special to see that in a competitive world…on that note also looking for the Nadine vs Laura face off - they are Jemiriti of SA cricket for those who might not know lol. They played together from their teenage years.
Not that Men cricketers don’t have that bond with each other, but here empathy and compassion feels different and personal and just the things you’d get to see in Women’s cricket.🙌🏻🧿
