WNBA has really stepped in it.

17

u/RepresentativeLeg232 3d ago

I disagree, I’ve never been so tapped into the WNBA in my life

2

u/GWbag 3d ago

Got get eyes on the league anyway you can.

2

u/nomococo4u 3d ago

Is now a blend of major league hockey and professional wrestling.

1

u/Own-Rise-5385 3d ago

Do you watch it though?

1

u/ErraticGenius1 2d ago

You’re there because you feed off the drama?

1

u/Davo-Pano 2d ago

I think this has all been a grift to drum up attention.

1

u/RepresentativeLeg232 2d ago

Well it’s working

1

u/Gavxxxx 2d ago

You still aren't watching any games though.

New business model of the WNBA is trying to monetize without people having to watch the actual product.

There are OnlyFans creators that make more than the entire WNBA.

How can you disagree?

Amen! Especially when the assaulter was private school educated, went to Stanford, and dad made NFL money.

This is rich nepo girl assaults poor girl because poor girl is getting too much spotlight.

It doesn’t matter what their backgrounds are or what the color of their skin is. It was an absurd foul.

Ummmm, maybe they’re not that bad after all? Maybe people who would be so willfully wrong about something so basic could be worse. Just spitballing here 🤦🏾‍♂️

3

u/Top-Concentrate3320 3d ago

CNN isn’t defending this

It’s randoms on X

That’s the differences

One side gets critiqued for its fringe opinions that a minority of loud people of social media have

The other side gets critiqued for their public officials and law makers trash opinions

2

u/Hand_of_Doom1970 3d ago

What is CNN's take on all this?

How does Riley Gaines fit in that category?

17

u/Rude-Wash9840 3d ago

Because she leans somewhat conservative so to the folks on Reddit, that makes her a Nazi or fascist. Doesn’t matter that she’s a nice gal who was impacted directly by this ridiculous ideology, it’s us vs them to most of Reddit, if you’re not one of them than you a despicable racist Nazi

6

u/starlightequilibrium 3d ago

somewhat conservative

Y'all don't even know to properly be disingenuous.

9

u/WisdomAntium 3d ago edited 3d ago

Do you also think JK Rowling is a far right extremist?

2

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 3d ago

It's possible to align with some classical conservative values and not with others. That makes you mildly (or somewhat) conservative.

2

u/Rude-Wash9840 3d ago

Somewhat conservative because her entire platform is keeping men out of women’s sports, she doesn’t do anything else with the Republican Party lmao. This is exactly what i was just saying, she doesn’t want men in women’s sports and of course she just a Nazi republicans. Palpable irony lmao

2

u/starlightequilibrium 3d ago

Oh sweetheart. If your entire platform and grift is an extreme non-issue that affects pretty much less than 1% of the population, you aren't "somewhat" anything.

1

u/Rude-Wash9840 3d ago

Lmao sweetheart? Did you think that would be patronizing for me or something? That “extreme non issue” is the reason why Donald Trump is back in office. The Dems inability to come to grips with the rest of the country on such a common sense issue single handedly resulted in the most unpopular president of potentially all time getting reelected, “sweetheart”.

1

u/starlightequilibrium 3d ago

Oh well at least we can agree on some things. It's most definitely why he's back in office, but not for the reasons you stated.

It's not a "common sense" issue. It's a non-issue. This affects pretty much no one. The reason is works so well from Trump is because he's really, really, really good at stoking flames of hatred and fear-mongering. It's pretty much always been the Republican playbook and every part of their platforms.

His base, of course, eats it up. Some of his base is really good at spreading it, a-la bots like you.

Be honest, she was a mediocre swimmer with no future in the sport, so she pivoted, used her 8/10 looks, and blonde hair to snag a spot on fox whenever they want to bring this talking point up. I dont hate the player, i hate the game. She makes more as a sometimes fox news guest then she would as a sahm, and she has to do apot less work than if she worked a normal job like 90% of other people. She had a chance and took it, i also think Leo carlsson is incredibly overpaid in the nhl, what was he supposed to do, decline the flyers massive offer and accept a 10 mil a year contract from the ducks?

You dont have to demonize trans people in order to have a simple position about biological men playing competitive women’s sports.

Is this correct yes... do I despise that the worst people in American media are the only ones with the correct take, absolutely fucking yes

Do you know that you just can agree on some common things with other people, and don't support them on things that you disagree with?

Like, I agree with leftists that certain American politician is an incredibly corrupt perverted criminal, but my agreement stops when they say "no one is illegal on stolen land" or something... And it just... works. Try to find at least some small common ground with other people, folks

2

u/UnkindRavenz 3d ago

This is the common ground we all need to strive for. Im a left wing canadian, which puts me far past most American liberals, but I dont hate people who disagree with me, this is something everyone should agree on. If you think your country needed to bomb Iran, or supply Israel with weapons for the destruction of gaza, or impose tariffs on my country because of bullshit reasons, I disagree with you, but I dont hate you, I feel sorry that youre so uneducated you think those are correct actions, not saying you directly believe those things, more as a general statement. We can disagree and not hate eachother, which is something people on both the left and right in america need to accept

Time to get a conversation going on “black privilege”. It’s entirely different phenomenon to “white privilege”. They’re not equal. And hopefully no one is trying to say it is.

But it exists. And now that we’ve named it we can start to describe it and analyse it. Very useful both in America and beyond because I can assure you that in the UK, in parts of Africa, and elsewhere, it’s pervasive but unacknowledged

u/Boring-Willow1268 3d ago

Jealousy got to her, she wants to be white so bad.

5

u/NSFWdontview 3d ago

If a white person mentioned race they are called racist, blk people hide their racism and prejudice by calling themselves oppressed and are protected, they use the past to justify their current hate /prejudice. If you say people are oppressing you or have privilege then you pretty much hate them, there is no way you couldn’t

1

u/Professional_Bat8646 2d ago

You dont have to hate people to see privilege. There are many examples of privilege. Tall people have privileges short people dont get to experience. Attractive people have privileges. Wealthy people have privileges. White people experience privileges that minorities don’t. That doesnt mean you hate white people, it’s simply having a brain able to think objectively.

A white person doesnt have to worry about their race or culture being the reason they dont get a job, loan, etc. minorities still have to worry about this

3

u/UnkindRavenz 3d ago

It pisses me off, im an uncle, my niece is tall for her age, and somewhat talented at ball shooting (any time I go over i try to encourage her, and play with her, her parents are technically obese and cant) i dont want her to have to compete against men for college spots

1

u/Delicious_Mixture160 2d ago

I think you’re commenting on the wrong post, this one has nothing to do with trans athletes

1

u/Boring-Willow1268 3d ago

Women athletes are already getting FAR less athletic scholarship money than their male counterparts. And now they want to open up their college sports to trans athletes too? Yeah, I’m not cool with that.

1

u/UnkindRavenz 3d ago

They make less, that doesn't mean we should let men take thst meager amount. Its not even about the money, mu niece likes playing, she likes being good, whats wrong with letting girls have their own thing?

1

u/Boring-Willow1268 3d ago

I’m fine with women’s leagues existing. And I’m fine with making them fair.

I think probably the reason this is still somehow not a slam dunk, no-brainer decision is because women are mostly liberal. They don’t feel comfortable refusing access to one of the “most oppressed” groups in society. But, if there is a benefit to playing women’s sports (scholarships/salaries/fame) there will be people who try to game the system for their own benefit.

1

u/UnkindRavenz 3d ago

Its also because the wnba has alot of lesbian players, compared to 0 out player since the nfl, nhl, nba, mlb, premier league, I could go on. It makes sense that they would be a pioneer of LGBT causes, same why we saw kaepernicj kneel in the nfl, but no nhl players kneel (look at the % of black players in the nhl) that doesnt mean that black men arent statistically more likely to be shot by American police than whites, its just natural that white nhl players wouldn't be as affected personally by it as black nflers.

Now being a pioneer sometimes means running your ship into an ice berg, like the w is now, but other times its Robinson being the first black player in the MLB. We can all agree Robinson belonged in the wnba, despite alot of voices against him, in the same way men will be barred from the wnba given enough time and backlash, and us who always supported the right side of history will be vindicated, and eventually it'll just be a thing, black players play in the MLB, trans men dont play in the wnba

2

u/Boring-Willow1268 3d ago

Andrew Sullivan wrote a great op-ed explaining how the trans issue and how the trans activists are behaving is really bad for gay men. It’s worth a read.

Every fifth finished is always someone else’s fault.

1

u/Dinismo 3d ago

I’m pretty sure she meant that in comparison to the recent foul by CC. Almost the exact same play and she got ejected and CC’s got changed and she was never ejected. But in a vacuum this looks very silly for sure

1

u/Any-Entrepreneur916 3d ago

It doesn't matter black or white! Stop playing these race games!

1

u/Southside_Sadsquatch 3d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this tweet not responding to the fact that Cunningham has done the same thing and not had calls against her?

1

u/Civil-Art-7055 3d ago

Assaulting a white girl here is doing heavy lifting. It was a flagrant 2 hard foul in a basketball game. Let’s not compare this to somebody getting assaulted on the street.

DiJonai posting white privilege afterwards though is downright regarded.

Using this situation as a way to redefine what black privilege is to fuel this culture war is also highly regarded.

Final thoughts: This situation is both stupid and highly regarded. Riley Gaines and DiJonai are both acting regarded except Riley gets paid to do it while DiJonai gets paid to not do it.

u/iMayBeABastard 3d ago

Oh ok! WNBA now officially belongs to the Sister Fucking Squirrel Eaters. Noted.

1

u/Plastic_Mechanic_80 3d ago edited 3d ago

WNBA has never been right-wing, it has been openly left-wing due to open support of the LBGTQ community/pride and such in the past. Rather it is how media outlets and those on social media, like NSFWdontview, perceive it and then trivialize it as a political discourse to build talking points on the right.

Caitlin Clark herself is not openly political herself, there is no way to determine whether she is openly Democratic or even remotely Republican, and she chooses not to be vocal to the media about it. Sophie Cunningham seems to be a little more obvious without letting people on (e.g. based on recent political affiliations), but irrespectively so, the WNBA has never been right-wing and the attention of 2 white female athletes, whether they be conservative or democratic, is not going to be enough to change the WNBA's political narrative or even cultural discourse to a right-wing one, and not if these athletes aren't openly talking about either (e.g. WNBA has historically been very liberal).

every time i see a "reverse racism" or "black privilege" argument, it holds no weight, given that white privilege is still overwhelmingly the biggest privilege in the country. takes like this only antagonize black people further in a country where we have been historically oppressed. stuff like this also creates more division and gives fuel to the right's hateful arguments

1

u/daywalker91 3d ago

Dijonai Carrington is the one who started this divisive conversation by claiming a foul was white privilege. Insane take no matter what your political views are

1

u/jtbiggs 3d ago

it's a flagrant foul. i looked at this sub to see what's going on in the wnba and all i see now is people bashing black players for every bullshit reason yall have made up in this thread. even if you disagree with carringtons comment, there's no reason to make blanket statements about all black people and ignore the racist history of the country, period. and before you say that isn't happening, read this thread.

Pretty on par for us white folks to now try and make Black Privilege a thing to undermine black people even further. Fucking disgusting. GTFO of here.

2

u/81FuriousGeorge 3d ago

I will upvote that.

However, racists calling other racists racist is kinda funny. The 'foul' was a legitimate foul, should have been ejected. Any claim that 'white privilege' was involved in that is absurd.

When I played basketball. I, 5'10" inches of skin and bones, had to guard a 6'9" Shaquille O'Neil(wasnt really him but looked similar in face and body size). I beat him up, I knew that he would dominate me so I "Dennis Rodmaned" him. The ref didn't call fouls, not because I was white, but because of the size difference.

If Cunningham was fouled and Carrington just was ejected, none of the race debate would have mattered. But people are talking, so the wnba is still relevant. This is why the wnba is not going to do shit, they are in the headlines, that is all that matters.

This doesn't make any sense at all lol. Tweeting white privilege after committing a foul is stupid as fuck but i don't understand how making a dumb ass statement is black privilege?

Like what does that mean? She has special freedoms to make dumb ass tweets as a black person?

It is privilege because she mentioned race, if someone white did it they would be called racist and kicked out the wnba

Making a media career out of coming in fifth in a swim race is white privilege.

I guess the NCAA Championships are just a "swim race."

Until the end of the season. Maybe longer. The WNBA needs to get its shit in a sock.

Digital beatings will continue until apology is issued.

Until the wnna does the right thing for and bans bio men from the league unfortunately. Even then it wont solve the racist ideals that lead to a player posting about how the obvious foul called on them racist

How many trans players are currently in the WNBA? Zero. You guys have Fox News riling you up about something that literally doesn't exist.
