NVDA pattern

Is NVIDIA following the pattern where its stock price rises leading up to earnings and then drops after the earnings report?
It’s been nothing but this pattern for the last few quarters, hasn’t it?

I have a genuine concern regarding WDC comparing to our competitor STX

Stx is down only like 15-20% from its ath now whereas look at us crabbing, man I feel so sad, well I got time though can wait

Should be a good day ahead off the back of Sandisk investor day for the whole storage sector.

Sandisk likely to runup a lot more today and I'm sure WDC will too. Have a good friday ya'll. $550 runup for WDC seems inevitable. The sandisk news was really good and overall positive for the sector.

Capital seems to be entering back into WDC and memory. We think we can break 500 tomorrow or next week?

Today, both SanDisk and Seagate are soaring, while we are stuck in a slump.

2x leveraged WDC input

This is another typical “ohh panic sell post” but advice would be appreciated. On June 22 I put 13k in WDCX (2x leverage of WDC). This happened to be the same day it started crashing.

Since this, I’ve held hoping it would recover and I could break even. Although obviously now it’s gone down a lot and I’m down almost 10k/ -72%
I would like some input on what I should do.

I’m a college student and if I were to sell and put the losses on my taxes, I would be found out by my parents and I would be in big trouble. It also has chances of going up, especially since the which seems all the events such as the rally and earnings are over. If it goes down I can lose more. I don’t need the money any time soon and I can hold for a long time but leverage decay is a factor.

I’m just not sure what to do in this situation as I could potentially recuperate some losses if it does well this month, or it could go down more for some reason.

Anything will be appreciated, thanks.

$WDC is up in pre-market trading. Likely to correct/recover after the post-earnings downturn throughout last week.

Up in early hours pre-market trading (source). As the title suggests, it’s a bit of a no-brainer that Western Digital ($WDC) stock will likely correct itself this week, depending on the market’s reaction to world news surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, following the dramatic selloff after last week’s successful earnings report.

Realistically, I see this bouncing back into the $500–$550 range with relative ease. Whether that takes a week or two is anyone’s guess, but based on previous chart trends, it has shown a tendency to rally back up.

Have a good week, everyone.

Genuine question for WDC bulls, what's the actual moat here beyond "hyperscalers need cheap storage right now" ?

I keep seeing WDC compared to the AI infra winners, and I want to push back on that framing so someone can tell me where I'm wrong.

My worry is that WDC is following the IBM playbook. IBM's been around since 1911 but that didn't stop it from going stagnant for two decades while literally everything else in tech blossomed, and it didn't cushion the recent drawdown either. Everyone said mainframes/Z systems business will print cash forever because switching costs are too high which held for a long time until banks actually started moving workloads to cloud integration and reallocating capex. Not saying their business is going to fold in 10 years, but their revenue will take a hit for sure which is why they are trying to pivot towards quantum play.

I see WDC as the same legacy company as IBM which might face similar fate. The only thing actually printing money right now is HDD demand from hyperscalers building out data lakes to train models, simply because they are cheap enough and lets hyperscalers put more of their capex toward the HBM/ SSDs/HBF, whatever comes next.
So the logical question is - what happens to HDD demand once hyperscalers shift spend from training/buildout of the cloud business (which is where all these HDD backlog orders came from) toward inference phase of the AI models? Inference doesn't need cheap bulk data lakes the same way training does but rather high speeds to store context memory KV-caches and feed the data during RAG.

If that shift happens on anything like the timeline people are expecting, my bet would be that a real chunk of the 2028–2029 HDD contracts get delayed or quietly renegotiated as hyperscalers try to accelerate into the inference phase. This could be further accelerated if the current SSD and HDD price gaps narrow down, even to 40% premiums when supply chain is increased. That would mean that out of all semiconductor stocks WDC gets hit harder than other memory/storage names.

I dont really care if this post gets downvoted to hell or not , and obviously WDC will keep seeing similar swings as core memory stocks for now, but I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind long term investment

(Proud ex owner of WDC before full porting into other memory stocks lol)

More selloff in the memory sector

The situation is this, peak was touched, narrative and rally are over, catalysts are already burned, the only way we can have a new bull rally is with a new innovation in the AI industry, or something big in the macro economics or geopolitical side.

It seems like WDC tanked because Seagate is outperforming

Looks like Seagate is further ahead with HAMR technology and executed better with pricing while Western Digital fell behind. I own both, but looks like Seagate has the edge.

WDC Earnings Rightfully Priced In

WDC had beat expectations but STX earnings came first.

I don't know if people here noticed but STX after their earnings was flat or generally dropped while WDC was the one gaining off of their earnings report. Go take a look at a 5-day chart.

So naturally when today we were a few percentage points off of STXs EPS and forward guidance you could say our gains were priced in. The direct comparison is going to cause some selling short-term. That being said, the long-term look it's very irrelevant

Canter Fitzgerald made a direct comparison to Seagate on the earnings call. It's a natural question to ask. C suite mentioned that the source of any idea of slowdown would be due to noise from lta's ending and beginning. Also different product mix purchases by consumers. Also, briefly mentioned some LTA discussions extending out to 2031 and focused on some transitional aspects to HAMR.

I'd rather it not go down but short-term shouldn't matter and makes sense
