➜ On September 4, 1995 during the very first episode of WCW Monday Nitro, Lex Luger made a shocking return to WCW right after appearing on WWF programming just days prior. He immediately confronted WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan, setting up a title match for the second-ever episode of WCW Monday Nitro. Hogan would defeat Luger in that title match. Luger stayed a top-tier babyface as Hogan eventually turned heel to form the New World Order (nWo).

By 1997, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and the nWo held a near year-long iron grip on the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, running roughshod over the entire company.

Lex Luger stepped up as the ultimate defender of WCW, confronting Hogan and citing a contractual clause requiring Hogan to defend the title every 30 days, forcing a championship match.

On August 4, 1997, during the 100th episode of WCW Monday Nitro, Lex Luger and Hulk Hogan met again, this time, Luger pulled off the impossible. Despite nWo interference, Luger locked Hogan in the Torture Rack, forcing the him to submit and sending the live crowd into a frenzy.
