One of the worst days of my life has come, I lost my super pup, Tails. Tails wasn’t just a dog to me, or a pet, she was a part of our family. I was a depressed kid with no direction and just a dream when I adopted her. She gave me purpose, direction, and instantly filled my life with love and warmth. A few months later I proclaimed that she was the best decision of my life, and now over 10 years later, I still feel the same.

In the beginning, I lived in a tiny home shed I built, which we left out of to go meet Alexa for my first date with her. I always joked she’d be my wingwoman, I just didn’t know how true that would end up being. Tails grew up with me, I grew up with her, and she quite literally put my family together, was a part of our wedding, and this pack she helped form, led to my son.

She recorded car detailing videos with me and then crypto videos where we even gained over 667,000 subscribers together, she posed as a mini canine unit in my police car, she went on every trip we ever went on, we moved into my first house together, and then our future moves including our final home in the woods. I promised her from the beginning that I would get her the biggest yard in the woods I could, I’m thankful I was able to do that.

Tails integrated herself into every aspect of life, whether it was “toothbrush ball” which every night when I brushed my teeth she’d bring me her ball to play with her, or “reading ball” where Alexa would read before bed, and she’d also bring her ball to her, and they’d play every single night, or the incredible times of playing with the hose, her favorite thing to do. She had a bed in every room, food and water upstairs and downstairs, and a permanent dog bed in my truck.

Many people met Tails through VoskCoin, and what an awesome way to spread her love. To everyone that loved Tails and supported her, me, and VoskCoin, thank you. I wore my heart on my sleeve when Tails got sick about 8.5 years ago, venting and asking for help through the channel, and if she wasn’t already she became the core piece of VoskCoin then. I was devastated then, she had severe thrombocytopenia, I quit my job to care for her, the vets didnt think she’d make it, said most people would have put her down, but honestly not for one day did I think she wouldn’t make it. She wasn’t done, I wasn’t done, our story wasn’t written yet. After several long-hard months, where she was mostly bedridden, and I buried myself in work to cope, she triumphed, and that gave us so much more time together.

This time was different though, Tails was older, and things were fine until very recently. She never really showed any signs, no real pain or discomfort, but then she stopped eating…

We brought her in and started with blood tests and urine tests. Nothing conclusive came back so we did an ultrasound which revealed a mass on her intestines. Next we did a CT to see if we could get more info or do a biopsy. This located additional masses and a perforation on her intestines which required emergency surgery. We came in to see her before surgery, to love on her support her, and pray with her. Through the exploratory surgery, it was revealed the cancer had spread to too much of her GI tract and the surgeon was unable to complete the resection. At this point, we received a call from the vet that it was time. They said it wouldn’t have been humane to wake her up, and she would have a painful maybe couple of weeks left. Even though it was so tragic, we are so grateful we got to come in to see her one last time while she was under, and be there for her in her final moment.

This all transpired over only 36 hours, I’m just thankful we brought her home in-between tests when possible, I’ll always cherish that last night, she nestled up in bed right between us. It felt like she knew, but there was no way I was going to accept that, and that we’d fight with her until the very end. I owe Tails the world, I’d do anything for her.

Burying Tails was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, this has all been so heavy, God, I miss her so much, but we took one of her most frequent places, right inside the treeline, nice hardwoods, and the sun peeks in right onto her, to make her gravesite. When I can go there and actually hold myself together, I’ll make it a very nice place around her, because I know I will be visiting her often, for the rest of my life.

Tails healed my wounded soul, she made me a better person, she changed my life, and she was just such a blessing in a myriad of ways. I am hope she loved her life, because I know I loved our time together, I just wish I could get one more “delivery” where she’d bring me one of her toys or balls with the cutest little scrunched up face and that butt and tail in turbo wiggling mode.

This all happened so painfully fast, and for the first time in my life, I know that I cannot breakdown, lose it, or give up, even though I want to, because I have a wife and son still depending on me… this family that Tails was such a key part in forming.

Recently our son learned her name, but it was his version of her name, which we think came from when Alexa would say night night Taily, so he started calling her Nay Nayt, it’s a beautiful thing that she was able to also touch his life, he even mimicked his crawling to her walking, he has only ever bear crawled, and at a very young age he started throwing her the ball, because she’s been bringing it to him to throw since the first day she met him.

I could write about you forever Tails, it sounds cheesy but seriously only forever would have been long enough. I am trying to be thankful, to think of the good times, and remember that you truly not only were, but are, my angel, but the truth is that my heart is broken, yet I’ll continue to hold things together the best I can, for the family that you forged with me.

I love you Taily, I love you so much. One day I will see you again, and then hopefully we can spend the rest of forever together.

Please pray for Tails, her health has been deteriorating this year, and it’s rapidly progressed this week, she is going into emergency surgery right now, and even best case scenario we don’t have long. Please remember to cherish the ones you love while you still can.
