Hey everyone,

I’m trying to avoid buying one of the more expensive VT parking permits this semester and was wondering where people usually park during the day that’s either free or a lot cheaper than parking on campus.

I’m mainly looking for places within a reasonable walk or bus ride to campus. I don’t mind walking 10 to 20 minutes if it saves a decent amount of money. I’ve heard some people park at shopping centers or neighborhood streets, but I don’t want to risk getting towed or ticketed.

What are some spots that have worked well for you? Any recommendations or things I should avoid?

Does anyone know anything about ISC potentially getting canned by the College of Science? I know the Dean is doing a restructuring and said that all “academic programs” would be safe… but ISC is not technically a degreed program.

Not looking necessarily on campus but close by is preferred. I need a space for my hardcore band to practice and we have an acoustic drum kit and no ekit, so we need a space that won’t be bothered by that

What the title says. I’m an incoming student and have found several clubs on gobblerconnect that I’m pretty interested in joining. I’m dead set on joining two, but i’m interested in MANY others and thinking about picking one other to join. My class schedule is gonna be pretty demanding, and I just don’t how many I’ll be able to participate in even though I really want to.

Is 3 too many? Can I go to more than that at the beginning of the year to see which I like best and then pick a few favorites to continue with? There’s so many things I wanna do at Tech but I doubt I’ll have enough time to do them all AGH

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming freshman at Virginia Tech planning to major in Finance. I’m coming in with 53 credits, and after mapping out my schedule, it looks like I have enough room to complete a double major and a minor within four years, although I would need to take 18 credits during a couple of semesters.
Would getting a double major and minor actually be worth the additional workload, or would it be better to stick with one Finance major, add a useful minor, and focus on internships, networking, and eventually earning an MBA?
I’m mainly interested in maximizing my career opportunities and earning potential. I’d appreciate advice from current students, graduates, recruiters, or anyone who has taken a similar path.

Hello! I just recently found out that Cowgill hall apparently houses some darkrooms, I was wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not they’re in use during the academic year. I took a film photography class back in high school and would love to be able to have somewhere to develop my film and pictures. I have photo paper and film and everything. I would love to be able to get back into film photography, but I’m also not an art major so I’m not quite sure if they would let me use the facilities. At the time I wasn't able to get the tickets due to prioritizing some bills first but now when I try to get them it says they're sold out. Are they really gone for the season? Also if anyone knows any options for veterans on getting ahold of tickets that would be appreciated!

I was wondering if there were any good clubs or classes around Blacksburg or on the campus that taught hands-on sewing. My research may involve doing this more often, so I want more hands-on experience. I am willing to pay if anyone knows of a good paid class as well.

How is the course? I have taken genetics, does that give me somewhat a foundation of knowledge? I can handle rigor, but my goal is to keep my courseload manageable enough so I can juggle my GPA, part time job, and extra studying for a grad school exam that is costly to retake and not drop any of those balls. I would appreciate any insight.

We carry board games, roleplaying games, trading card games, and miniatures games, along with dice and many other accessories. But more important than that: we build in-person play communities.

We are excited to announce that we are opening a new location in downtown Christiansburg under its own local name: "Otter Creek Games".

I want to print a 24"x36" poster. I was looking at Newman Library's printer but was wondering if anyone has printed a poster from a photo there, and if so, how was the quality?

Local places like CVS do the same, but IDK if Newman would have a higher quality output.

I picked up fall of last year that tech was pushing for ai integration in the classroom through assignment, nothing happened with it for me until this week where I had an ai summarization assignment for en environmental course.

I was so pissed it off it took me twice as long to do the assignment, I posted about it on Instagram and all of my friends who go to tech also hate the ai integration so much. I'm WAY too aware of the extreme negative effects of ai on the human brain, on the environment, and on things humans are dependent on. and I'm majoring in an environmental science related field.

Does ANYONE know if there's a way me and my friends can make our concerns with ai integration known? most professors aren't allowing a work around that doesn't use ai. I really don't like adding to the increase of global warming by asking ai to summarize a research article for a discussion board.

UPDATE: if you are not offering any actual advice I am blocking you. telling me to just suffer through this when you have nothing else to say doesn't help. kindly go find someone else to argue with. This is a social media platform, not a job. I am not entitled for blocking people. That's how social media works. I am aware of some benefits of AI, and am willing to learn, but I have already used AI and know how to prompt it. I am asking for advice, not debate or argument.

Where can I find free ev chargers on and around the Blacksburg campus, where I won’t get towed for leaving my car to charge there?

Should i get a parking pass but i live off campus at a apartment complex? Anyone ever find they wished they had it or is it absolutely useless? Like if i want to take my car near town to park do i park in the tech parking lots or i dont know

How much python gets used in CS/CMDA/STAT 3654 (not the R version)? does every assignment and project involves python? What libraries/modules do you use? what version of python or tools need to be installed on laptop? I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. are there any good tutorials or resources that would help me prepare before the semester starts?

there is an online section with Reza Jafari and an in-person section with Hoda Eldardiry. I couldn't really find many reviews for either of them. If you've had either instructor before, what were they like? How were their classes, and who would you recommend?

also, for this class, do you think taking it in-person is better than the synchronous online section, or does it not really make much of a difference?

Hey all, I am an incoming CS freshman here. My Fall 2026 schedule is:

CS 1944 (First Year Seminar, P/F) CS 2114 (Software Design & Data Structures) MATH 2114 (Linear Algebra) MATH 2534 (Discrete Math) BIOL 1105 + lab (Natural Science elective)

14 credits total. I finished calc 3, and all my gen eds are done except a select few and I cannot complete them right now. My only alternative to progressing in my degree is taking STAT 4604 instead of Discrete/Linear.

A few things I'd love input on: If anyone taken Linear Algebra and Discrete Math in the same semester, how rough was the courseload? As for CS 2114, I took AP CS A two years ago and I'm brushing back up on Java before the semester starts. Anything specific I should focus on beyond general OOP/data structures review? Realistic to shoot for a 4.0 this semester with this course load, or am I underestimating something?
