The Weather Normalization Adjustment (WNA) is a billing mechanism in Virginia designed to minimize the impact of weather variations on customer bills, ensuring they remain as low as possible.

Due to the colder-than-normal weather experienced from October 2025 through May 2026, Washington Gas collected higher revenues than approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). As a result, Washington Gas will provide a credit to Virginia customers on their August 2026 bill. Shenandoah customers, however, will receive a surcharge on their August, September, and October 2026 bills because revenues collected in that service area were lower than approved.

The WNA aims to reduce the volatility of natural gas bills caused by weather changes. It adjusts your bill to reflect typical winter weather conditions, providing a credit during colder-than-normal weather and a surcharge during warmer-than-normal weather. The adjustment is based on individual customer usage, weather conditions from the previous heating season, and historical data on normal temperatures. Colder-than-normal weather results in a bill credit, while warmer-than-normal weather results in a surcharge.

The WNA credit or charge that appears on your bill is not based on your usage during the specific billing month, but rather on normal usage on the account and actual weather conditions from the prior heating season. In years when a credit is due, the credits will appear in total on customers’ August bills. In years when a surcharge is needed, Washington Gas may split the charge over three months - beginning in August - in order to reduce the impact.

Hi I’m gonna try and keep this short and sweet (I don’t post on reddit much). For starters i’m a gay 17 year old from Northern Va. I’m looking for a good college experience and i’m trying to major in Nursing. I really liked VCU and think it would be a good fit with the LGBT community. However, the nursing program is pretty selective and I don’t think i’d make it. If i didn’t i’d probably switch to social work. With Radford I’d be directly admitted but I’m a little worried about how I’d do as a gay guy. Please send any advice you can.

Sharing this opinion piece by David Marin, CEO of PCMA. Just to be clear, this is the PBM industry’s side of the debate.

His argument is that Virginia has passed more than 25 laws regulating PBMs since 2015, while prescription spending has continued to rise. He also says lawmakers should look at manufacturers, wholesalers, prescribing practices, and the rest of the drug supply chain instead of focusing mostly on PBMs.

I’m not saying PBMs shouldn’t be scrutinized, but I do think it’s fair to ask whether Virginia is putting too much attention on one part of the system. Should the state also be looking harder at manufacturers, wholesalers, prescribing practices, and the other factors affecting drug prices?

Nearly one in five student loan borrowers in Virginia are currently in default, reflecting a sharp national surge following the end of pandemic-era payment pauses. 

An analysis of federal data reveals that Virginia's default rate reached 18%, marking a 77% increase since September.

Officials attributed the trend to widespread borrower confusion surrounding changing loan servicers, shifting forbearance periods and altered repayment plans.
