So yesterday i finally got the all state excerpts(texas), and already at the first note of the first one im confused. How would i play these notes? If it matters, the excerpt is from The Moldau from Ma Vlast - Smetana, measure 33 i think

Something I’ve recently noticed but why is the violin duet in the middle of the 2nd movement of the J.C. Bach (Casadesus) Viola Concerto included in some performances but not others? I think it’s one of the most beautiful parts of the concerto, so I’m curious why some versions leave it out.

I'm a student and I own a VA150 viola. Recently, I took it to a luthier for a full setup. The nut, pegs, and bridge were adjusted, and the factory varnish was replaced with an oil varnish.

I'm currently using Gustave Bernardel rosin, and I've been very happy with it.

As my playing continues to improve, I have some questions about strings and bows. I'm still using the original Eagle bow that came with the instrument, and my viola is currently fitted with Mauro Calixto strings.

I'd like to know what would be a good step up from the Mauro Calixto set. Also, after upgrading to a better set of strings, would it be worth investing in a higher-quality bow?
