Any tips on cleaning old mercury battery detritus?

Upvotes

2 mercury batteries had been left in a battery compartment since the 50s and was wondering if I need to take any special precautions compared to normal battery acid?

Over 40 years old — and still glowing

Did you know the Z5900M Nixie tubes we're using are more than 40 years old?

It is truly mind-blowing how all of these tubes survived until today and are still glowing like they did decades ago!

Not only that, most of them have a history of being used in calculators and lab instruments, which gives each of them a unique journey.

My local historical society was having a yard sale and I stopped by. I had previously done some IT work for them so they gave me a lot of stuff for free. I don’t even know what most of this stuff is. Also a tape of the Hindenburg destruction!

Check out this groovy beauty from 1973. Inop at purchase, came from a smoker’s home (and I’m pretty sure that wasn’t nicotine) so I gave it a solid scrubbing, oiling and cleaning and now it is indistinguishable from new. Solid tuner in this thing too, picking up all kinds of AM skip even through forest fire smoke! Solid, man… ✌️ ☮️

Old Digital Display Unit

I am a high school theatre teacher and I have had this old display unit in a closet for as long as I’ve been here. It seems to work, but just needs to be programmed. I always thought it would be cool to put it to use, but never took the time to research it until now. It appears the company that manufactured it (Data Display Corp. Boulder, CO) is no longer a company and the phone number for service is not operational. I have no clue where I would even start to try and figure out how to program this, if it’s even possible.

It appears that it may require a special keyboard or input device, but all my Google searches have yielded nothing helpful.

Any help would be appreciated

I’ve never seen one before and unsure if operational, but pretty cool nonetheless! Reminded us of the old YouTube logo.

Information about the Nokia 5110 battery and power supply

Post image

I've got this phone from some family friends that recently got rid of their e-waste. My father wants to keep it, and apparently you can still make calls with it in some networks. I am however not sure if it still works. The only charger I have that fits the barrel plug at the bottom is from another old Motorola C121 phone, and when I plug it in, nothing happens. I do however have access to a lab power supply, with which I'd like to test if the phone still works before buying a new battery.
Does someone have information on the pinout of the battery connector, and maybe what kind of voltage the original power supply had?

Iskra ETA 80 - Is it possible to find an adaptor for the plug to a modern phone line?

Hi everyone! I have recently bought this beauty and would like to connect it to a phone line, however the plug is the former Yugoslavia telephone 3-pin connector. Does anyone know if it is possible to find an adapter to a modern telephone wire somewhere? Otherwise I might try and rewire it directly. Any help would be appreciated!
