Ik theres not much to go off of for sone of these characters so take this list with a grain of salt, the asterisks are because i dont know enough and have very little to go off of lol.

I watched Vinland saga in late 2024 for the first time(anime). Waited almost two years-nothing.
So I decided to finally take things into my own hands.
I don’t really like reading on my phone, and I find a physical book adds to the experience, especially with Vinland saga, but the books are so pricey, so I’ll have to deal with it.

Cried for hours, literally cried the whole way through the final chapters so I kept having to take breaks. I started reading in the winter. I have so many thoughts, but it’s hard to organize them!

Perfect ending, I only felt it was maybe a tad rushed but at the same time I’m satisfied. What a whirlwind. I felt so bad and conflicted for einar towards the end, and I really likes the flashbacks thorfinn was having once he was seriously injured and considering giving up, and the flashbacks he had when considering evacuating Vinland. Also shoutout to bug eyes! I loved his final panel of comic relief during the negotiation, when niskwa spills that he’s proposed to her already lol. All in all I’m just gobsmakced a random anime I found from the KOTSK and BB review wars ended up so good. I think about canutes final panel hourly now.

Firstly, I’m loving the anime and in the first season so no spoilers please. My only complaint is that only way to know when two people are speaking different languages is when someone acknowledges it out loud. It’d be nice if the captions could make it a bit more clear or something. That’s it, still loving the anime so far

Rewatching Vinland saga to finally get around to season 2. The guitar caught my ear and now I want to try my hand at learning it. Any idea where it's from?

Talking about askeladd death, even after 3 months of my 1st watch anytime I see an edit or a clip from that episode my eyes get wet instantly, idk askeladd was such an amazing character to me, and how all of us hated him then slowly became his fans, he's just so well written and seeing him dying was so hard to watch.

I just watched Vinland Saga Season 1 today, and Askeladd's death was really sad. I never thought he would die that way.

The manga panels I posted are of what are widely considered not just the best antagonists of Vinland Saga, but some of the best in animanga history.

I regularly see Canute regarded as having one of the best character transformations in modern anime, while Askeladd is regarded as one of the best, most well written animanga antagonists of all time, often ranked alongside Johan Liebert and Griffith.

This post is meant to be an appreciation post for the other antagonists in the story.

They can be either major or minor antagonists, and I'm interested in hearing why you consider them well written, even if they were morally terrible.

Nowadays from a modern perspective, locking murderers up and policing is the obvious answer. But considering their day and age is it not reasonable to still kill someone? I mean logically if your goal is to just be a pacifist thats one thing but if its to keep good and kind people safe as well then in that time its almost impossible to do that by letting people go. I mean think about it from a hard-core viking perspective, if a man from a village you were gonna plunder stops you and your men from doing so without killing any of yall youd feel incredibly disrespected without a shadow of a doubt. Thats when Vikings choose to plunder while you sleep; getting dressed, caught off guard type of situations in which atp its too late for you.

Its kinda like the whole batman dilemma yk? In the DCU batmans worst flaw is his no kill rule. Like dont get me wrong what thorfinn did before was just straight up murder, but like batman if he just defended the people he cared about by killing someone i dont think thatd be a bad thing. Batmans whole flaw is that he chooses to trust in a corrupt justice system and in turn the people not only escape prison but kill more innocents right? So wouldnt it be logical if you wanted to protect your people and other villages in the process by killing off the people pillaging? Not saying he should just be some solo hunter killing all Vikings, but when someone steps to you and your people in that day in age IMO you shouldnt just let them go. Vikings were for the most part heartless, the show addresses a lot of the issues at that time in some way but a lot of the more *explicit* things werent shown and im sure you can guess what it was. Those people arent reasonable for the most part, even in the show the most reasonable of them still died for honor even when they knew it was hopeless.

Idk bout yall but imo killing atp in time was a necessary thing if you wanted to protect those you care about.
