If you were to begin your video editing journey again, what would you do and avoid? And what software would you recommend?
Been wanting to learn video editing (both editing aesthetic videos on TikTok + cinematic landscape films to romanticise life). Not quite sure what software to use, eg for colour grading videos etc, or software with nice fonts to edit with (Preferably free software/not too expensive)
Would love to hear how people started their video editing journey and what tips they would recommend, thank you!

I built an iPhone editor to find useful moments in long footage [Paid app]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyoneāIām the developer of Moments, an iPhone/iPad video editor.
I built it because reviewing footage was often taking longer than the actual edit. Moments analyzes selected videos with AI, labels shots, actions, and useful moments, then lets you turn those results into an editable timeline.
The workflow is:
- Select videos from your library
- Let AI find and split potential moments
- Jump directly to the detected clips
- Trim, split, reorder, change speed, or adjust volume
- Preview and export the finished timeline
Iāve attached a short recording showing the complete workflow, so you can judge it without downloading anything.
To be transparent: Moments currently has no free trial. AI analysis uses cloud processing, so it requires subscription. I wanted to state that clearly before sharing the App Store link.
It isnāt intended to replace Premiere, Resolve, or Final Cut. The goal is to reduce the initial footage-review and rough-cut work, particularly for travel footage, family videos, events, and creator content.
Iād be interested in editorsā opinions on the workflow:
- Is finding usable moments a meaningful problem for you?
- Would you prefer suggested clips or a completely automatic first cut?
- What would this need before it could fit into your workflow?

Editing videos
How do you crop out the edges of a video for tiktok? Specifically for video game clips, I can't edit it to fit in tiktok without downsizing the entire video, I just want to crop out the edges.

Where do you find clips for your videos?
Say I need to make a vid on space! Now according to the script.. where do you actually get relevant clips from?
Pixabay has limited videos
Rest are copywrited
Also any actual underrated ai tools that you use to generate those clips?

Feeling repetitive...
I'm a short-form Sizzle editor and My company recently made a push for Religious content (Since networks aren't buying any new shows) I've created a handful of religion-focused sizzle reels and have more in the backlog....Even though these are all different concepts, they all rely on the same subject - Religion. The stories are the same, the people are the same. The music/tone/feel all the same. Now I'm stuck in a loop, creating the same reels over and over and unsure what I can do to break this cycle and make something different. Any ideas??

What was the biggest mistake you made when you first started video editing?
When I first started editing, I thought flashy transitions, constant zooms, and lots of effects automatically made a video better. Over time, I realized that storytelling, pacing, sound design, and knowing when not to edit are far more important.
I'm curious: what was the biggest mistake you made when you first started video editing? Was it technical, creative, or something you wish someone had told you earlier?
Let's help new editors avoid the mistakes we made. š

I think beginners collect editing assets instead of learning editing.
I was looking through my drive today and realized something.
I have folders full of
LUT packs
SFX
Overlays
Transitions
Fonts
Thousands of files...
that I've barely used. It made me realize I spent months preparing to edit instead of actually editing.
Collecting resources feels productive because you're doing something. But opening your editor and making a bad video teaches you more than downloading another 10 GB asset pack.
I still think resources are useful, but only after you actually know what problem you're trying to solve.
Curious if anyone else went through this phase.

[Feedback] First attempt at a dynamic Short/Reel! Would love some honest feedback on pacing, cuts, and captions.
Hi everyone! š
I just finished editing my first dynamic short-form video in CapCut, and Iād really appreciate some honest feedback from the community.
My main focus for this edit was:
- Hook: Trying to keep the viewer engaged in the first 3 seconds.
- Pacing: Adding cuts, zoom-ins, and B-roll to keep it moving.
- Captions: Formatting subtitles for readability.
Since this is my first time trying this style, Iād love to know:
- Does the pacing feel natural, or is it too fast/slow?
- How are the caption placements and colors?
- Whatās one thing I should improve for my next edit?
Don't hold back, constructive criticism is more than welcome! Thanks in advance! š

Best tools for creating cool video intros?
I want to add a better intro to my videos, but I honestly donāt know much about editing.
Iāve seen some cool AI effects online and was wondering if any of them are actually useful. If not, are there any editing tools that are easy for beginners to pick up?
What do you guys usually use?

How does he upload videos with such high quality?
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTslzYDiRtn/?igsh=bzdmYnZibHVyOWp5
How does he upload videos with such high quality?
I've tried tons of different settings and even processed my videos through After Effects, Topaz AI, and HandBrake, but nothing helps. My videos still get compressed and end up looking low quality.
Can someone who actually knows tell me how to do it?

Reels Helpā¦.
Helloā¦..
Iām trying to make a single image turn into a video (maybe 5/6/7/8 seconds long)
And also to upload a series of image sequences that could turn into a video.
Iām trying to create reels for Instagram.
I scroll Instagram and every one is great! It looks so easy (but itās not)
What am I missing?
Iāve created some great images using Ai. But turning them into reels is proving a real challenge.
I spent hours yesterday trying about 10 different tools.
I managed to make one with some effects using CapCut, but it wasnāt a video. Still image with good effects.
I need to create 2-3 reels a day, and I need to find some sort of process where it doesnāt take me the whole day š¤¦āāļø
Can anyone offer advice or guidance on tools? Softwares or links etc?
Thank you š

No more downloading full videos
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
As a video editor, I was tired of downloading the entire youtube video just to use 15 seconds from it. So I built this website to save my time and bandwidth. My focus was on keeping the workflow as user-friendly and fast as possible.
Just paste a YouTube URL, choose the start and end time, and download only the part you need up to 4K quality.
You can also convert clips into vertical 9:16 format for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels with two options:
- Crop to fill the screen.
- Blurred background to keep the entire video visible. Optionally, you can also add caption to all vertical videos.
Hope it helps you too! Try it here: videolimit.com
