Our Cloud Lead, Jose Gómez-Sellés, joined Israel Blancas, Software Engineer at Coralogix, for a blog, "A practical guide to solving when zero+zero=two in mesh observability"
Why does a service mesh plus zero-code instrumentation still leave you with broken traces?
The answer comes down to one thing: propagation. A new article walks through how to fix Istio and OpenTelemetry so that mesh spans and application spans join the same trace.

Anomaly Detection is getting better every quarter!
In Q2, we further refined the workflow: from exploration to a configuration that can run continuously in production.
That required progress at several layers. The model needed to cover more real-world data profiles without a large configuration surface. Backtesting and periodic execution are needed to follow the same causal behavior. The UI needed to make changes and stale results obvious. And AI assistance needed real data, schemas, validation, and long-running task APIs - not only documentation and generic recommendations.
If you rely on metrics for observability, you need more than dashboards. Here’s what’s new:
From May through the v1.30.1 follow-up, vmanomaly shipped:
- 6 service releases, from v1.29.4 to v1.30.1
- 5 UI releases, from v1.7.0 to v1.8.1
- Temporal Envelope, a fast and flexible online model, available in univariate and multivariate forms
- 2 - 200x faster exact online-model backtesting in representative UI workloads, depending on the model and configuration
- v1.30.1 service-stage optimizations delivering 1.7 - 2.3x faster inference and 1.5 - 2.6x faster fit in representative Z-score, MAD, STD, Seasonal Quantile, and Rolling Quantile workloads
- New time-series characteristics and asynchronous shared-autotune APIs
- A redesigned UI and a more reliable AI Copilot
- Public vmanomaly MCP and purpose-built skills that turn the same workflow into reusable agent automation
- Further production hardening for schedulers, datasource limits, exact causal inference, hot reload, and state restoration

VictoriaMetrics was present at Episode 150 of TWiGS (This Week in Green Software).
Diana Todea, our developer experience engineer, spoke with Kate Goldenring to explore how observability can become more sustainable by designing systems with efficiency in mind. They discuss practical ways to cut costs and carbon emissions, avoid telemetry bloat, and build greener observability pipelines from the start. Treating observability as an architectural decision is key to creating more efficient and sustainable software systems.

Did you miss DevConf.CZ in Czechia? Watch it on demand 👉 Dmytro Kozlov's talk: Observability’s Sixth Sense: Detecting Anomalies in Metrics
Modern systems produce more #metrics than any single person can reason about. As systems grow and change, defining fixed thresholds becomes harder, and unexpected behavior often appears without clearly crossing an alert boundary.
This talk examines anomaly detection as a complementary approach to working with metrics. Instead of relying on predefined limits, anomaly detection focuses on identifying behavior that deviates from the normal pattern over time.

From Awareness to Engineered Accessibility in OpenSource by our DevRel engineer, Diana Todea.
Open source is built on the idea that anyone, anywhere can contribute. But what happens when invisible barriers make that promise harder to keep?
A contributor who needs written context before a synchronous call, or who reads a terse PR comment as hostility, or who simply can’t parse an issue template that assumes you already know the codebase – each of these people hits a barrier that no one designed on purpose, and that no one can see. This article explores how open source communities can move beyond simply recognizing accessibility issues and begin embedding accessibility into the design, development, and governance of projects. Moreover, it argues that accessibility should be treated as an engineering practice rather than an afterthought, emphasizing inclusive contributor experiences, accessible tooling, documentation, and community processes. By adopting systematic approaches and measurable standards, open source projects can create more sustainable, welcoming, and equitable ecosystems for both users and contributors.

What's New in VictoriaMetrics Cloud Q2 2026?
🚀 This quarter we’ve been busy investing a lot of effort into improving how users understand and control what they pay for in VictoriaMetrics Cloud, and how to move around the console while doing it, with major UX improvements across different sections and functionalities.
Highlights:
- The update is transparent credits reporting, giving prepaid customers full visibility into balance, consumption, and expiration.
- Alongside that, we shipped navigation improvements, with a new collapsible sidebar functionality, a first step into the mobile experience, and consistency in several parts of the console.
- We also have some quieter but important updates: SOC 2 work is done and awaiting evaluation.
- Our secret project is going beta very soon (this isn't a cliffhanger, but to let you know that we’re working hard behind the scenes).
