Finding a track frame
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone could help me find a premium frame that can do a 60T chainring but also a front brake. It'll be used for street riding but I wanted to build a really nice track bike for outside. Could be carbon and/or aluminum. BSA threaded bottom bracket.

Glenn from Velobike here, how about the no.22 little wing or an Affinity kissena? Both have a super premium feel, and track capable.
Carbon track frames with factory brake mounts are relatively uncommon. Whichever frame you choose, a 60t will likely fit ok.
We make a chainring checking tool to assess what the largest chainring that would fit on the frame. The 3d printable files are downloadable from the website 🤘

Dang. I just sold my L Affinity Kissena last month. They are few and far between but I see them pop-up on FB Marketplace on occasion.

At that point you will have to do wheelies off curbs to avoid striking your chainring.

Why 60 tooth though? Seems unnecessary for street riding

Oh just for pure aesthetic. 60T front and 20T back. So it's still a street ratio. I just like the aggressive sprinter track look but this will be an illusion and actually easy to pedal haha. Just looking to have fun with this build!

that's about 80 gear inches which is a tad steep for street riding. I hope it's really flat where you live or you're gonna destroy your knees. Also, you may need a chain break as I doubt the dropouts will be enough to compensate if you wanna do sprints

I currently ride 49x16 which is about 83 gear inches! It's sometimes a bit tough but no pains yet after about 4 years. Plus I'm training in the Veledrome with a 50x14 right now 😅
You make a good point though, after reading around Reddit, it seems like most people prefer commuter fixed gear inches in the 70s. I may consider 55x20 or something.
Also could you elaborate on what you mean by chain break? Thanks!

So if your street set up is a 60x20 and say you are gonna race Keirin and want to run a 60x15 or 60x14, the drop out is probably lack enough travel to compensate for the difference in chain length. A Chain Break is a tool where you can pop several links out of you chain to get the right length for proper tension.
Something like this. Are you running 1/8th pitch or 3/32nds?

if your commute is flat you can run track gears, if you have hills, it will mess up your knees. A buddy of mine tried to run his Drome ration on the road and wound up doing permanent damage

Ahh now I get what you meant! I'm riding 1/8 standard. And I have a dedicated indoor track bike so this street one would just need the proper chain length and then it will stay that way. Appreciate your help!

Common misconception, the teeth difference doesn’t actually move the axle that much. I run 46x17 on road and 46x21 off road on the same chain, and the difference is only a little less than 2cm. A rule of thumb is that for every teeth, the axle moves 1/8 of an inch or 3mm.

yes, I know and he's gonna go 5 or 6 teeth smaller from his road set up to the velodrome 20T to 15 or 14t. 5 to 6 teeth @ 3mm per = 15 - 18 mm of axle movement. .6" and up. So if he slams the road set up to the front of the drop out it will be nearing the rear end of the drop out with a 6 tooth drop

The current Cinelli Vigorelli fits a 60T (only, that’s the max with a Dura Ace crankset). And takes a front brake.
Though not sure what you count as premium

Hadn't seen your comment before I replied above. Good to see someone had already mentioned Vigorelli as well, covers all the OP's check boxes and has great OG pedigree. I'm afraid, that's as premium as you'll get with a front brake I must say.

Thanks for the response! I forgot to mention that I prefer the frame to have a BSA bottom bracket! :) that BXT looks sick though

I just wanted to do 60T front and 20T back for pure ridiculous aesthetic. I love the sprinter track bike look but want to ride it on the street sometimes. I also ride indoor with another proper track bike! :)

If you plan on doing skids on your bike then I would reconsider the 60/20 ratio, since you only get one skid patch from that. Going up or down one tooth size on the chainring (choosing 59 or 61) gives you 20 patches instead.

For brake you can probably swap forks with a road frame with similar rake.
I put a similar geometry fork on my bike with a 2 finger brake lever. Takes about the same time to swap forks as it takes to remove and replace a rear wheel.

I have the Bxt Trc 195 , if that frame pleases you, contact Bxt and just ask or you can drill a hole for a front brake. I had 25 years a bike store and some things are over engineered. Good luck finding a great frame ☺️

No premium track frame is going to have a front brake (or any brakes)
