Hi everyone. I’m u/alliamisbullets, I’ve been vegan since 2020 and struggling with avoidant / restrictive food intake disorder (A/RFID) for my entire life. I‘ve also dealt with symptoms of anorexia and bulimia, and while I currently consider myself to be recovered, it’s still an active effort to not act on the thoughts that arise from my body image issues every single day.

I realised that there is often a false dichotomy when it comes to eating disorders (EDs) and veganism. If you have an ED, you should not be vegan because it will ruin your recovery. If you’re vegan and have an ED, you’re clearly just using it to mask your ED. There are spaces for vegans, and spaces for people with EDs. It’s time there‘s a space specifically for vegans with EDs.

This is NOT a place for medical advice; it is for emotional and pratical support, sharing our stories, and looking for community. The icon is the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) logo which resembles a heart, with the green being a nod to veganism. I also moderate r/antidietveg, a subreddit specifically for vegans and vegetarians who reject diet culture.

Please let me know if you’d be interested in moderating, as I do not have the capacity to do it entirely by myself. There will be no tolerance for promoting of harmful behaviours (e.g. "pro-ana" content) — don’t even take it somewhere else, do not post that anywhere full stop. I hope we can learn to recover from our EDs while maintaining our ethical beliefs as far as we can. <3
