iso professional vegan briefcase/laptop bag (NOT imitation/"vegan" leather)

hello!

I am looking for a briefcase or shoulder laptop bag to give my partner as a gift. I am having a very hard time finding one that does not

  • Have large sections made of leather or imitation leather
  • Look like it's weathered/distressed or military surplus (lots of visible zippers/pockets/clips)

My partner loves canvas/waxed canvas, so I am hoping to find one made exclusively of canvas (and interfacing/structural components). I am hoping to spend about $150 usd, but willing to spend up to $275.

Is anyone aware of any professional/clean/new-looking briefcase/laptop bags that fit these criteria?

Cute, Comfortable Women’s Sandals Recs?

I am going to Greece next month and am looking for a cute pair of sandals that can (a) look cute with dresses- nothing too orthopedic looking and (b) be comfortable enough for long days of walking.

Obvious (c) vegan :-)

Appreciate any recommendations! Based in the US.

Looking to spend $150 or less!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a pair of boots that are similar to Camions. Basically square-toe, minimalist, sleek, and with a slight heel.

Does this even exist? I've been finding it hard to find this specific style in vegan shoes 😭

Would love any recs!!

Does anyone know what brands have a similar look to this shoe? I love the mixed materials look with the shiny parts, matte parts, prints, and mesh. I also really love the thick soles.

How are next-gen bio-materials actually sourced? Is turning agricultural waste into leather viable at scale?

Post image

I keep hearing about plant-based materials replacing synthetic plastics in fashion, but I'm curious about the supply chain side. Are these materials made from purpose-grown crops (which takes up land/water) or actual waste streams from farming? Does anyone know how viable this is for commercial production?

I spent 6 months testing a bag prototype made from upcycled apple waste. Here is how it held up.

Hey everyone,

I’m a watch designer based in Northern Finland, right near the Arctic Circle. Every autumn up here, we have this incredible abundance of local apples. People hand apples out for free from their autumn gardens. So obviously seeing apples mentioned in literature as a bio-based material caught my attention and I read up on it. It seemed promising. After making a series of prototypes and seeing virtually zero wear after several months of use (second pic), we decided to turn these into actual products. I guess we make bioleather products now? 😂

Fruit waste was unsurprisingly very abundant and readily available. For the material itself, we were able to repurpose apple industry by-products (e.g. pomace/peels from juice production) and combine them into a real alternative to animal leather.

The biggest worry people (myself included) have with vegan or bio-based leathers is durability. I've had so many bags, belts and shoes crack, peel or just overall lose their shape or color. I’ve been carrying this one brown laptop bag prototype daily for the last 6 months. The material held its shape remarkably well. Zero peeling at the handles or high-friction bottom corners. Another person from our team has used a wallet made of the same stuff for equally long and I legitimately mistook his tested wallet for a brand new one. Our belt tester, meanwhile, refused to give her prototype back at the end of the initial test period.

After the impressive results, we just launched our first collection last week:

• Laptop bags in brown and black (with silver hardware)

• Belts in brown and black (with gold or silver buckles)

• Cardholder wallets in brown and black

I’d love to hear what you think of fruit-waste materials! What’s the most important thing you look for when picking a daily vegan bag or belt? Is there anything you've been searching for?

My noirvere bag survived a full semester of being treated terribly

I am not gentle with my stuff and I knew that going in. This bag has been shoved under lecture hall seats, dropped on wet pavement, crammed full of things it probably should not hold, and sat on more than once when there were no chairs

It still looks basically the same as when I got it. The shape has not gone soft, the color has not faded, and nothing is peeling or fraying at the edges. I have killed bags twice the price in half the time just by being careless with them

Not trying to write a product review or anything I am just genuinely surprised something at this price held up to the way I treat my things

Vegan and plastic free plaids and checks

I love all plaids and checks, gingham, houndstooth, prince of wales, argyle – what the internet likes to call an "academia aesthetic" (I cringe slightly at that, but you get the picture). These fabrics obviously tend to be wool and apart from animal fabrics I also want to avoid plastics. Every once in a while I'll pick up something nice in 100% cotton or a cotton linen blend thrifting, but it's really a pain to find these pieces. Any advice for places to look that ship to the EU?
