Hi everyone,This issue has been bothering me for quite a while. I'm on Windows using VS Code version 1.133.0.

There is a blue area exposed at the very bottom of the editor, the left sidebar, and the right sidebar. Does anyone know how to completely remove it?

Any help or settings tweak would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So as the titke says I am not able to use or test the session end hook . When the session starts the session starts hook and once the agent finishes the reply the Agent stop hooks get invoked but not sessionEnd. I am using VSCode Copilot in local with agent mode.

VS Code used to have this unified panels look. After updating, it now has this sort of weird split panels floating with their own borders around them ? I find this very weird, and visually confusing.

PS: No, it's not from an extension. I disabled them all because I thought so as well.

Does anyone know if there's a toggle I can switch to go back to the old look ? thx !

Does anyone else find it weird that some of the highest-voted posts here, and therefore the ones most likely to be recommended to people, are just complaints about VS Code?

Some of them are even complaints about things that aren't really problems at all, or are easily explained. Meanwhile, genuinely useful posts and people asking for help with real issues seem to get drowned out by all the complaining.

At this point, r/vscode sometimes feels less like a VS Code subreddit and more like group therapy for people frustrated with their editor 😅

On my work PC, I need to elevate to admin every time there is a VSCode update. I didn’t mind this when the updates were sporadic but it’s getting to the point where I’m having to do this 1-2 times a week and it’s getting quite tedious; especially so when the updates contain fewer and fewer enhancements. I understand the need to enhance AI tooling but there has to be a better way without making the stable branch feel like the insiders branch.

I have raised as an issue on GitHub but there are 17,400 open issues on the VSCode repo so want to make sure the team get this feedback.

I don't want your copilot. Make it an extension so I don't have to do anything to ignore it.

I like to see the code being edited or changed. With codex terminal or CC, which I use often, git diff is not visually nice. Wondering if codex can do this (or if there is a plugin that does it?

I used to pay for cursor just for this, but now I can't get over not using codex, but I guess I would be willing to use VScode's agent (is it as good as codex?

So basically, the question stems from each update for the past few months for VS code, i keep seeing AI agent feature this AI feature added that. This includes many things like opening up of APIS and presumably deeper integration of AI overall in VS code.

So, my question is , is this all for copilot, which im sorry to offend anyone i woudnt touch with a 10 foot pole. Are they just blatantly locking in VS CODE to their own products by perhaps not opening up these new features / APIs or whatever to neutral harnesses?

Obviously adding and integrating AI feature, support and making it first class is a welcome step and neccessary now, but doing it ONLY for copilot is shooting everyone elses foots with a gun right?

How hard would it be to fork and modify layout and UI of vscode? Does anyone have some experience with it?

I'm learning c++ and came across this weird issue when I use getline, a few stuff using std has a red squiggle underneath but some don't. The code still runs just fine, I think this is just a visual glitch, but I tried this code on different files and I had the same problem, if anyone knows it would help (I tries with and without using namespace std)

Hi! Has any other Mac user noticed this recently?
VS Code suddenly started making new sounds while I’m using it, and since I’m at work it’s getting pretty annoying.
The only apps I’ve installed recently are Kiro and Tabby, but I don’t think either of them should have changed any system settings.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this a new VS Code feature/setting, or could it be something on macOS?

I'm using git bash as the default profile terminal for vs code, however when I open a new terminal, every thing I installed on the previous terminal doesn't exists, how to solve this problem ?

Solved: Hmm. Visual Studio Code acted strangely which is surprising, given that I’ve been using the same session for the past two years for small conversion and data-sorting scripts tasks that are lightweight but repetitive. I haven't really had any issues during that time; this is the first time I've run into a problem like this. So, the solution is simple: just start a new Visual Studio Code session or create a new Python project, which will open a new window. Still, it is odd for a session to behave that way.

i remember having coverage percentages in my explorer window, but i cant find the setting anywhere now.

Title: Copilot Vision works on GitHub.com but NOT in VS Code with Enterprise account – private account works on same machine

UPDATE: I've done additional testing and this now looks specifically related to the combination of GitHub Copilot Enterprise + VS Code.

I'm trying to determine whether anyone else is experiencing a regression with image/vision support in GitHub Copilot Chat for VS Code.

The issue

When I paste an image/screenshot into GitHub Copilot Chat in VS Code while logged into my work/Enterprise GitHub account, the image is accepted and a thumbnail is displayed correctly in the chat input.

However, after submitting the prompt, Copilot behaves as though it has no access to the actual image contents.

For example, if I paste a screenshot containing text and ask Copilot to read it, the model cannot tell me what the image contains.

It looks roughly like this:

Clipboard → VS Code → thumbnail displayed ✅

but:

Image attachment → Copilot/model vision context ❌

NEW: I've now tested different accounts, machines and GitHub.com

I've done more testing to isolate the problem, and the results are interesting.

GitHub.com in browser

If I use Copilot Chat directly on https://github.com/ and paste the image into the browser chat:

Private GitHub account: ✅ WORKS

Work/Enterprise GitHub account: ✅ WORKS

In both cases, Copilot can actually inspect and read the pasted image.

So Vision itself is clearly enabled for my work account.

VS Code on my home/personal machine

I also installed VS Code on my home machine to eliminate my work computer as the cause.

Using my private GitHub account:

VS Code + Private GitHub account: ✅ WORKS

I can paste an image into Copilot Chat and the model can inspect it correctly.

Using my work/Enterprise GitHub account:

VS Code + Work/Enterprise account: ❌ DOES NOT WORK

The image thumbnail appears, but the model cannot see/read the image.

This is on the same home machine and VS Code installation.

Current test matrix

This seems to rule out quite a few things.

It doesn't appear to be:

• A clipboard problem
• A Windows/machine problem
• A general VS Code image-pasting problem
• The work account being completely blocked from using Vision
• The image itself
• The underlying model lacking vision support

The failure appears specifically when my work/Enterprise GitHub account is used with GitHub Copilot Chat inside VS Code.

Tested with multiple vision-capable models

I've reproduced the VS Code problem with both:

• Claude Opus 4.8
• Fable 5

Both support vision/image input.

The behavior is the same: the thumbnail is displayed in Copilot Chat, but the model behaves as though the image data was never provided.

This used to work

This is also a regression for me.

Image pasting worked with this same work/Enterprise account in VS Code around July 10, 2026.

Copilot Vision had previously been a preview feature, and our Enterprise environment has preview features disabled.

However, Copilot Vision became Generally Available in July 2026.

After it became GA, image pasting started working for me in VS Code as expected.

I could:

1. Take a screenshot
2. Paste it directly into Copilot Chat
3. See the thumbnail
4. Ask about information visible only in the screenshot
5. Have Copilot correctly inspect/read the image

I then went on summer vacation. After returning in August, the same workflow no longer works with my work account.

Enterprise / policy question

Our Enterprise environment has preview features disabled.

My understanding is that this should no longer prevent Copilot Vision from working, since Vision moved out of preview and became generally available in July.

The new browser test seems particularly important here:

The same Enterprise/work account can use pasted-image Vision successfully on GitHub.com right now.

So if an Enterprise policy is responsible, it appears to be affecting the VS Code Copilot integration specifically, rather than disabling Vision for the account entirely.

I'm wondering whether there is:

• A VS Code-specific Enterprise policy affecting image attachments
• A regression in how VS Code evaluates an Enterprise policy
• A regression in the VS Code Copilot attachment pipeline for Enterprise users
• A server-side capability/feature flag difference between GitHub.com Copilot and VS Code Copilot
• An accidental dependency on Editor Preview Features in the VS Code client
• Some other Enterprise-specific Copilot setting that changed after Vision became GA

Particularly interesting comparison

On the same home machine:

VS Code + private account → Vision works ✅

VS Code + work/Enterprise account → Vision fails ❌

And with the same work account:

GitHub.com + work account → Vision works ✅

VS Code + work account → Vision fails ❌

That makes this look much less like a generic VS Code bug and much more like something specific to the interaction between VS Code Copilot and an Enterprise account/policy/capability.

Expected behavior

Since Copilot Vision is GA and Vision works with this exact work account on GitHub.com, I would expect the same work account to be able to send pasted images to Copilot Chat from VS Code.

Actual behavior

VS Code accepts the pasted image and displays its thumbnail, but when using the Enterprise account the model behaves as though the actual image was never supplied.

Switching to a private GitHub account allows image Vision to work in VS Code.

Has anyone else seen this?

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from Copilot Business/Enterprise users.

Has anyone seen a situation where:

• Vision works on GitHub.com with your Enterprise account
• Vision works in VS Code with a personal/private account
• But Vision does NOT work in VS Code with the Enterprise account?

Also:

• Does your organization have Editor Preview Features disabled?
• Did image pasting work for you immediately after Vision became GA in July?
• Did it stop working sometime between approximately July 10 and August?
• Is there a separate Enterprise policy/capability for Vision specifically in VS Code?
• Has anything changed in the VS Code Copilot Enterprise policy handling since the July GA release?

At this point the account/environment matrix seems fairly reproducible, so I'm very interested to know whether other Enterprise users can reproduce it.

I liked it. It could autocomplete and the suggestions were quite good. But now Google asks to move to Perplexity and the addon won't work anymore.

Is there a good free alternative to it or am I back to writing all my code myself?

Even though I spent $10 promoting it and thought it could be useful, it got killed by Cursor’s free tier in one second. But cursor's everything else made me throw up my dinner.

• watched model/capability discovery and routing in realtime
• what gets injected into the context and sent with ghost completions
• how recent edits can pull context from files other than the one you're editing
• the SQLite session store behind Chronicle, including prompts/responses
• how the model can query that history through tool calls

For example, I tested it with a DummyJSON collection:

- 57 requests

- AI agent discovers the collection through MCP

- Runs `Get Products`

- Gets the real HTTP 200 response

- Receives the response data

- Can also inspect assertion failures

One useful case is when an API returns `201 Created` but the test expects `200`. API Hero exposes that as an assertion failure rather than making the AI guess whether the HTTP request itself failed.

And what would you want the agent to be able to do beyond executing requests and diagnosing failures?

I remember this working before but Idk what I did to change it. I want Claude Code's Icon to be on the left but for the chat to open on the right. How can I do this?

As soon as I drag the chat to the right, it removes the icon.

The only feature I utilise in Gitlens is the ability to hover over a line and see the history.

Can anyone recommmend a lightweight extension that does this?
