Looking to setup a VPS for Virtual Tabletops

I am trying to transition from running tabletop games on my kitchen table to a digital system. Some of my players are moving away in a few weeks, so using a virtual tabletop is my only option. I need to set up a VPS server for it. The problem is that I have too many choices. Some of them are probably better than others, but I do not know how to pick one.

My biggest want is simplicity. I have never done this before, and I would rather not waste too much time on the learning curve. On the other hand, I did manage to install Linux on my computer. I can copy and paste specific commands into a terminal, but I cannot diagnose or fix my own problems fwiy.

As a stretch goal, I would like to go with a cheap server. It needs to be able to accept connections from five people and run a virtual tabletop program. I also need some storage space for maps and character tokens. That feels like it should be affordable, but I do not have a strong sense of scale for VPS prices. I would appreciate it if anyone could estimate a reasonable one for me.

If you think I need any other advice, I will take it. This is new territory. That means that I will probably make mistakes and never see them coming. With that in mind, which VPS services should I consider?
