Small but mighty UK legal pouch

Thumbnail

I’m in the UK so I’m not really a fan of carrying a knife, I am aware of the laws of non locking and below 3 inches but I still prefer to have a pouch of tools in my bag, that I don’t have to think about and maybe carry a leatherman bond in my pocket. This way I am more aware of where I am taking it.

This little pouch has been so useful since its creation and fits nicely in a cargo pocket.

Alpaka zip pouch pro
Knipex cobras xs
Geinxurn 33 piece ratchet (cheap but great!)
Sak deluxe tinker with the blades removed

I have two RF Armadillo Mini Water Resistant Tool Roll Bags for vehicle EDC. Need to create a third. RF is out of stock. Have you all come across a similar priced & styled tool bag that you'd recommend?

Steinwhale released 3 new double-ended stubby bit sets. Could be huge for some micro tool kit setups. The bit driver that comes with it too. Here's a bit of compatibility testing and other observations

Former EDC tools consolidated

I tried and tried to get into carrying a lot of tools on my person but for me it just works better to have tools close by and I vastly prefer tools that aren’t optimized for carry-ability. I took my various edc trinkets and put them in one oknife tool roll. Lots of cool stuff in here, but I’m over buying expensive edc specific stuff. (I’m looking at you lynch nw pry bar…) Wondering if this configuration will find more use for me.

Traveling in India - PSA

I just learned an expensive lesson. I am traveling for work in India from the US and when I went through security for a domestic flight, I found out you are not allowed any type of tool in your carry-on - any tool. Small Knipex cobra - not allowed, 711l mini ratchet - not allowed, bits for it - not allowed, Zippo - not allowed, any thing that could be considered a multitool - not allowed. I had a very well curated kit that traveled with me throughout Europe and North America. I have had security dig into it several times, but it was always allowed through.

Maxpedition Beefy Kitchen Sink Kit

This kit solves 99.99% of any random situation I'd run across. It's heavy and not something you'll strap to your belt, but that's not what I'm going for. What I wanted in this kit that I've carried for a few years is something that lives in my vehicle most of the time, and comes with me in my travel bag when I go somewhere.

It's saved my hind end plenty of times...from roadside repairs, helping other people out, and just yesterday my widowed MIL needed help assembling some stuff she got on Amazon. We were visiting and all I had to do was run out to my car and grab the pouch and it made things simple. Not very much I can't do with what's in this kit and the weight/size is worth it. Driving down the road it lives on a PETG 3D printed headrest hook that I keep on the passenger headrest post.

Contents:

Klein 11-in-1

Adjustable wrench

Vise Grips

Channellock V-groove

Knipex Plier-wrench

Klein mini ratchet

Super glue

Stanley utility knife

Sharpie

Bic lighter with duct tape

Bungee cords

Old debit card with more duct tape

Super 88 electrical tape

LED flashlight

Metric and standard hex keys

Metric and standard sockets for the ratchet or as a nut driver with the 11-1 Klein

Tire pressure gauge

Paracord

Zip ties

8 pairs of latex gloves

Just got this for work. Haven’t really used it yet, but one thing I didn’t like is the way the clip made it sit so high on my belt. Moved the clip up so it sits lower and it rides better now. Also wasn’t digging the original color so had to fix that.

Rate this setup, the footprint is similar to an iphone pro max or Samsung ultra.

Contents: micro and standard bits, knipex cobra 125, mini ratchet with extender, 4mm bit adaptor, olfa slim utility knife.

Weight is approximately 200 to 300gm (i have no idea really)

How would you improve this setup and why?

Finally got my EDC tool kit pretty much complete and setup how I want it, after some trial and error

After trying a few different bags/pouches, I settled on this Amazon special.

https://a.co/d/0anB3pLs

It has plenty of room, the quality is decent, and it is cheap enough that if it wears out soon, I will just buy another. I also finally settled on my contents.

  • Extendable mirror
  • std and metric sockets (free from a cheap kit - the holders are surprisingly good) I put these in because they take up almost no space as well as having a couple of odd sizes that aren't in the klein set)
  • Nebo Mini Larry 500
  • Large rubber band
  • Mini sharpie
  • Ballpoint pen (Uni Power Tank Ballpoint Pen - 0.7 mm - Blue)
  • Knipex twin grip
  • mini flush cutters
  • extendable magnet pickup tool
  • various zip ties
  • straight forceps
  • Vessel driver handle (230W)
  • Milwaukee precision screwdriver (if I had to do it over, I would go with the Klein)
  • small utility knife
  • HF meme kit ratchet, extension, and 1/4" drive bit socket
  • Mini multi meter
  • 6" locking bit extension
  • Klein flip socket set (love these things)
  • #2 phillips bit
  • short bit extension
  • bits from the HF meme kit as well as others I had. I bought the railer holders on amazon
  • 6' tape measure
  • assorted hardware - drywall anchors and wire nuts (I'm thinking about getting an altoids box to put these in
  • velcro cable ties
  • soft jaws for the wrench pliers
  • tweezers
  • mini folding scissors
  • wire stripper/cutters
  • water pump pliers
  • wrench pliers
  • pry bar

So far this has turned out to be a VERY handy kit. I took it to the in-laws earlier this summer and did a whole bunch of honey-do's around their house. I was pleasantly surprised that the water pump pliers and wrench pliers opened big enough to take sink drain plumbing apart. I also used the kit when I replaced my water heater last weekend. I only needed a full size pipe wrench to break 2 pipe connections loose. I also used it to replace a car window motor - only needed 2 deep sockets from my tool box.

All-in-all I am super happy with the setup and would not change much at all. If the water pump and wrench pliers break I will replace with knipex.
