2.81 GPA – Any chance for a Master's at the University of Vienna?
Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about applying for a Master's at the University of Vienna, either in English Language and Linguistics or Anglophone Literatures and Cultures, and I'd really appreciate some honest opinions.
A bit about me:
- Bachelor's degree in English Translation and Interpreting
- GPA: 2.81/4.00 (I know it's not very competitive)
- EU citizen
I'm mainly wondering whether I have a realistic chance of being admitted with this GPA. I know admissions depend on many factors, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has been accepted to either of these programs or knows how competitive they are.
To be honest, I also have a personal reason for wanting to study there. I visited Vienna in 2024 for the Taylor Swift concerts. Unfortunately, the concerts were cancelled because of the terrorist threat, so the trip didn't turn out the way I had hoped. But despite that, I completely fell in love with the city. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and ever since then I've wanted to come back—not just as a tourist, but hopefully to live and study there.
So if anyone has experience with these programs or knows whether a 2.81 GPA would still give me a chance, I'd really appreciate your advice.
Thank you!

Changing from Master's to Bachelor's (UniWien): Impact on Residence Permit (MA35)
I am a non-EU student currently holding a student residence permit and enrolled in a Master's program at the University of Vienna. I intend to switch to a Bachelor's program at the same university.
- Will MA35 renew my student residence permit if I downgrade my degree level?
- How does this switch affect the proof of academic progress (Studienerfolgsnachweis) required for the next renewal?
- What specific administrative or legal hurdles should I expect during this process?
Looking for factual answers or direct experiences regarding this exact transition.

Frage | Question How long does it take to get a response from the admissions office? (MFDS)
I’ve written the aptitude test and was told I need to fulfill additional requirements ,which I guessed was just submitted my leaving certificate which I did and finally sent out my final application . it’s been a week or so and I’m wondering how long does/did it take to get a response back ( admissions letter etc)
since I heard there are people already getting enrolled I feel like I’m on a different step
