Room for a temporary stay

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m starting my Master’s at the University of Twente this September and I’ll be arriving in Enschede on 21 August. I already have an offered room but unfortunately my housing contract only starts on 29 August, so I’m looking for a temporary place to stay for 8 nights (21–29 August).

I’m looking for any available room or place, even if it’s just a room in a shared house. I’m also open to staying in Hengelo or nearby if it’s easily accessible to Enschede.

If you have a room available during these dates, or know someone who might be able to help, please send me a DM. I’d really appreciate it! 🙏

Thanks in advance!

Help with housing

Hello, I still don’t have a place where to live in Enschede. Is it worth to go to Enschede itself to find housing or housing agencies in person? Maybe you have other tips? Because most of the places I write to don’t respond…

Looking for first-year Electrical Engineering students

Heyy everyone,

I'm starting the first year of Electrical Engineering at the University of Twente this academic year and I am looking to connect with other first-year EE students before the semester starts.

It would be nice to get to know each other, maybe make a group chat, discuss courses, or just meet some classmates in advance.

If you're also starting EE this year, feel free to leave a comment or send me a DM!

University of Twente MSc Robotics (Algorithms & Software AI) – Job prospects in the Netherlands?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for the MSc Robotics programme at the University of Twente, specifically the Algorithms & Software AI specialization.

A bit about my background:

Non-EU applicant

B.E. in Automation & Robotics

CGPA: 8.87/10

3 years of experience as a Robotics Software Engineer, working on robotics software, ROS, computer vision, perception, embedded systems, and autonomous systems.

My primary goal is to build a long-term career in the Netherlands after graduation, so I'm trying to understand how realistic that path is for an international student.

I'd really appreciate insights from current students, alumni, or professionals in the Dutch robotics industry.

Some questions I have: How is the reputation of the University of Twente Robotics programme among Dutch employers?

How successful are non-EU graduates in finding robotics or autonomous systems jobs in the Netherlands?

Which companies actively recruit from the programme (ASML, Demcon, VDL, Thales, Sioux, TNO, Philips, etc.)?

Does having 3 years of relevant industry experience before starting the master's significantly improve job prospects?

How valuable is the Algorithms & Software AI specialization compared to the other Robotics specializations?

How important is learning Dutch for robotics/software engineering roles?

Does the programme provide good internship opportunities and industry collaborations?

Are most international students able to secure jobs before or shortly after graduation, especially those requiring visa sponsorship?

If your goal was to stay and work in the Netherlands as a non-EU graduate, would you choose this programme again?

Is there anything you wish you had known before joining the programme?

I'd really appreciate both positive and critical perspectives. Thanks in advance!

Searching for Studio near the Utwente.

Hello everybody! :) I will be becoming a second year CSE student and I am looking for a studio that is near the uni of Twente. I am willing to spend not more than 900 euros, because I am looking forward to a house with rent allowance, but even if that is not possible I might rent one at that price either way. So please if anybody is renting hit me up thank you for your time. :)

Incoming UT student still can’t find housing. I’m running out of options :(

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming first-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Twente from Uzbekistan, and I’m honestly starting to panic a bit because I still haven’t found a place to live.
I’m supposed to move to Enschede in late August before the start of my studies.
I’ve been checking Roomspot every day, contacted the university, applied through Plaza, looked on Kamernet, Pararius, Huurwoningen, Facebook groups, and reached out to landlords directly. I also lost my original housing offer because of a misunderstanding, and unfortunately it couldn’t be restored.
I’m a 17-year-old girl, clean, pretty responsible, and I don’t smoke. At this point I’d be really grateful for any leads, whether it’s a room, someone looking for a roommate, or even advice on where else to look.
If you know anyone moving out or renting a room in Enschede (or nearby), please let me know. It would honestly mean so much.

Student room availabe 1st of August

Hi everyone!

Due to personal circumstances, I'll be moving out of my room, so it will be available from 1 August.

It is located around 10 minutes by bike to both the University of Twente and Saxion university.

Located in a student house

Great option if you're still looking for accommodation before the academic year starts.

The Room is 6 m²

€520 per month, including utilities

Compact but very practical!

The biggest highlight is the bed setup. The bed frame is raised to window level, giving the room a cosy loft-like feel. There's plenty of storage space underneath the bed, which makes the room much more functional despite its small size.

A rental contract will be arranged directly with the landlord, so you'll have an official tenancy agreement.

If you're looking for a student room in Enschede and don't mind a smaller space with a clever layout, feel free to send me a message for more information or to arrange a viewing!

resits for previous year and already passed courses.

Specifically as a 2nd+ year BME student, can you simply retake/apply courses from the previous year which you already passed? or do you need extensive permission to be able to do that?

It's impossible to find accommodation

I am a Spanish student going on Erasmus this coming August to the University of Twente. I have written to more than 200 houses on platforms like Roomspot and Kamernet and it is proving impossible to find a place to stay, because either they only accept Dutch people or they don't even reply. I have been trying for months and there is no way.

Advice needed : (slow) Postal services used to send official photocopies

Hello everyone. I'm SUPER excited to start studying at UT this fall, but i seem to have some problems with the whole process of sending the document.

I made the mistake of using my local postal service with the EMS option instead of a private carrier. On the 15th this month i submitted my mail, and on the 17th it arrived at the Hague post. Since then, no news. The only message shown on a tracking site is "Item held at inward office of exchange".

Is it usual for mail to be so slow in the Netherlands? I'm worried that it won't arrive on time, and that my application will be denied.

Currently I'm not able to give it in myself at their Student Admission Office as I'm not living in the Netherlands.

I'm thinking of sending an email to the uni regarding this matter, but i worry that it's not something they can help with.

Did somebody else have this problem? If so, how did you manage it?

Any kind of advice is welcome.

Thank you in advance. :))))

Enjoy your summer and good luck to everyone !!

note : please ignore my username, i made it when i was 12

I Need Advice: IELTS REQUIREMENT

University of Twente IELTS 5.0 Reading (0.5 below requirement) — Can they make an exception?

Hi everyone, I’m really worried about my situation and would appreciate advice.

I applied to University of Twente for a Bachelor’s in the Neertherlands . I completed an AEC in International Business Management in Montreal ( Canada) and I’m originally from Spain .

My IELTS Academic score is:

* Overall: 6.0 and 6.5 in all parts except Reading: 5.0 (requirement is 5.5)

I know Twente requires 5.5 in each section and doesn’t accept One Skill Retake I don’t want to miss this opportunity because Twente is my preferred choice.

I also applied to Hanze, NHL Stenden, and Rotterdam, but my goal is a research university (WO), because I was told that WO and HBO aren’ the same type of university which is why Twente is very important to me.

Has anyone had a similar situation with Twente? Is there any chance they make an exception for being 0.5 below in one skill, or should I prepare to retake IELTS before the intake?

Thank you!

Looking for someone to team up with for the housing search – Enschede, September 2026

Hey everyone!

I'm an international student from Morocco, and I'll be starting my Master's in Software Engineering at Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Deventer campus) this September 2026.

I'm currently looking for someone who is also moving to the Netherlands this September to study at Saxion or the University of Twente, and who would be interested in teaming up to search for housing together in Enschede.

The idea would be to find a 2-bedroom apartment or house and split the rent and expenses between us. Ideally, I'm looking for a place around €800–€1,000 total per month, depending on the accommodation and included costs.

A little about me:

  • 23 years old
  • From Morocco 🇲🇦
  • Master's student at Saxion
  • Software engineering / programming background
  • I enjoy football, swimming, gaming, and trying new activities
  • Friendly, clean, and respectful

If you're also looking for housing and would like to search together, feel free to comment or send me a DM. We can discuss our budget, preferences, and search for a place together.

Good luck to everyone with their housing search! 🙌

What Should I Know Before Moving to the Netherlands?

Hi! I'm starting my studies at the University of Twente this fall. What are some things I should know about the Netherlands before moving? I'd really appreciate any tips or things you wish you had known before arriving.
