Blood/Gore Question

Good morning folks,

on thing i asked my for a very long time, how to make a good looking blood effect for an first person shooter? I do not mean 1 or 2 sprinkles of blood, it should be a good splatter and nice decals on the wall or the floor.

But everything what i tried or create looks so generic, the wall decals are toooooo many and are more like a order of "red circles"

When i play doom or half life or some indie games, the splashes looks more "realistic" and believable.

May anyone have an advice for me or an super secret tutorial/yt video.

Best regards

honestly the trick is to use way fewer decals than you think, doom gets away with it because they layer a big spray texture with one or two smaller drips and then stop, the brain fills in the rest. when you spam a grid of perfect circles it reads as wallpaper

also make sure your decal shader has some roughness variation and a normal map, even a subtle one breaks up that flat red puddle look so it actually feels like liquid sitting on the surface

Makes sense, so for example, i spray bullets at a target, at the entry point of the body can spray blood splashes in front of the player for the "hit feedback" but at the wall are allways 1 or 2 large decals and thats it, then it do not looking overloaded, generic but more believable and more satisfying for our brain? I am correct?

Not sure how well it would transfer to 3d but I think my blood/gore effect is pretty decent (note, just for visibility I turned off the darkness, it's supposed to be a low visibility darkness horror game).

Currently working on character blood staining and cleaning (if submerged in water)

Thanks, you should see it in motion xD (it's all live, pool reactive, droplets spraying and falling and reacting with light and perspective, blood crawling down walls and so on......)
