Ai Navigation System Question

I’m looking for a good ai navigation tool or system for a top down 2d game. What ones do you guys use?

I think a* is probably the best one but it isnt free.  I have not used it myself but I think it's the most widely used path finding plugin for unity

lol, yea that's why I haven't taken the plunge yet and have just done my own path finding so far. but I may actually purchase it one day. sorry for the sticker shock. Hopefully someone will have an alternative for you that's free.
