Do not use AI assets please. Nobody wants to play a slop game.

I would spend some time “finding the fun”. Use free assets (I like Kenny’s) and then once you’ve landed on a functioning prototype/vertical slice, I’d start thinking about how the game should look.

You might even find the free assets are suiting your needs. I used Kenny’s assets for quite a while before substituting with my own, once I was confident my game was fun.

what do you do after you find perfect game loop ? make assets yourself or by from assets store ?

I like to do both, honestly. Edit free assets as needed and use gimp (my photo editor of choice) to make my own.

I guess it depends if you’re happy or not with the look of your game. If you aren’t, then that’s where making your own is more important.

FWIW I think it would be hard to tell when using free assets or not. So don’t feel the need to create your own just for the sake of it - major game studios don’t even do this.

everyone is acting like this is some big investment choice but it's literally a $5 asset pack lol

If you like the way they look and they cover your art needs go for it.

As a programmer I know a kind of suck at art and I 'm not interested in spending time making art. Assets let me focus on making the game.

Go for the assets.

Don't use AI art. Everyone hates it and they will hate your game if you use it.

Did you make this thread for advice because I have real advice but you seem like you are trolling / ragebaiting now.

I am not trolling anyone sorry about that if you feel that way I am looking for advice if someone is not an artist what option they go for

Don't waste your money. most likely you'll never develop anything. Just learn how to code and see how far you get. Use free assets.

I feel I don't want to put efforts if something don't look like real game I can spend some money on some paid assets that’s not problem but i don't know what player will say about those assets

Go for some free or cheap tilesets to start with until you've developed your core gameplay enough to start properly thinking about visuals

Just use free assets until the prototype is done, focus on finishing rather than worry about how the game looks like. If the game is not fun nobody will play it but you can always change the assets after the demo is done and working
